Wrap-up

This challenge started really well, and then it kind of fizzled, but I'm having a hard time being upset about it.

First of all, hello to achieving my 2017 goal six weeks early:

Second, I had an amazing time during my annual Youth Group Mission Trip, sharing it with my youngest two:

sol.jpg

Couldn't be prouder of these two.

Third, I finished off the whole thing by going straight from the trip to my annual "Home Game", the Minnesota Spartan Sprint, where we had over 150 people representing my NSS.

nss.jpg

Just keeps getting better and better.

So many green jerseys or arm sleeves - many of whom I didn't even know, which was awesome. Ran with my Mud Brother Ed, our friend Dan, and new friend Krista, plus a slew of others who we leapfrogged on the hill. I didn't run for time. I ran to be with my people. Temps were a good 25 to 30 degrees cooler than the past couple years at Welch and I felt it. I climbed the hill freely. I ran freely for the first time ever. I bombed all the downhills. I failed a couple of obstacles, did 90 burpees, did not puke after the Barbed Wire crawl, conquered every wall like it wasn't even a thing, and found the spot where I left my soul on the hill during the bucket carry last year. It was the most fun I've ever had at a Spartan Race.

Best day on any hill EVER.

Oh, and I conquered the Twister for the first time in six tries.

Spoiler

Josh is my NSS teammate, my official running coach, and my unofficial Obstacle coach as a member of the staff at Obstacle Academy. He was in the gallery at the Twister. He's seen me practice the technique multiple times at OA.

I could hear him as I got up on the handles. "Keep your momentum. You know you can do this. You got this."

He's right there, over my right hip. "Keep moving."

Ding.

All awesome things.

Now, things to work on from this challenge that didn't go so great:

I've barely worked out since I qualified for OCRWC at the Chicago Spartan, and I've only run a couple times since. This is a bad trend. I'm sure this is because I am now sans specific training goal. This new goal will make its appearance in my next challenge thread. It's time to pick a new goal, and since I have the entire damn Nerd Fitness Rebellion at my side, there's no doubt in my mind that once selected, I will nail it.

Thanks for having my back, y'all.

'Sup, peoples. I'm still here, I haven't retreated into my couch. I did spend Sunday and Monday resting. Yesterday I was back in the gym for my normal lifting class.

I need y'all to help.

OCRWC asks that we submit a photo to include as my OCRWC Qualifier announcement pic for social media. My GF and I narrowed it down from a small truckload of official and unofficial race photos to a small handful. I need help deciding.
