Yasha92
Last challenge ended on a bit of a whimper, life got all a bit overwhelming and no wonder, with this nonsense of a weekly commitments table – buddied with work being a pile of poo (and not the cute poop emoji, nasty passive-aggressive-shit that has myself and all 5 other fulltimers (bar one) actively looking for work elsewhere)… and I’ve had it up to the proverbial ‘here’. Still, instead of backing myself I turned to freaking softdrink, with the worst day coming in at over a litre. I also missed several days of gym with excuses such as ‘it’s cold’ and ‘it might rain’… I’m forgiving myself, but I’m not condoning such behaviour. Things will ease a little at the end of week 1, when I will complete the final class for Mandarin, removing 6hrs of commitment a week, I have also gracefully removed myself from the lunch DnD group as it was causing more stress than fun. For this challenge I’m focussing on some little things that need doing daily/weekly, coupled with a list of stuff that needs doing but can be done in little spurts when energy allows. No soft drink You know why. It doesn’t help. It is not something you can enjoy responsibly. No soft drinks for the entirety of this challenge. That includes kombucha. That does not include berrocca or aminos. Daily pass/fail. Move that tush! Gym on M-Th, also hitting 10,000 steps a day because I signed up to be the team leader for the walking challenge (because I never notice I have too much on my plate until too late, oops). Depending on how well I’ve gathered steps on the weekdays I might get weekends off. Getting out of the office at lunch for a walk means they can't ask you questions on your break. Daily. Become the Master! I finish my Mandarin subject on Friday of week 1, after that I only have the Masters subject – Management of Change to be studying. I will do the weekly blog post (non-negotiable, by Tuesday of the following week, preferably on Thursday straight after class) and will at least attempt the chapter readings each week. Get out! Work has become toxic. Every day check for new postings on the website and in the scope of this challenge apply for any lvl 5 positions that you are even slightly koala-fied for. Including but not limited to: 1.Finance Officer – apps close 29th May, 2.Research Grants Assistant – apps close 1st June [as this is the same level be prepared to negotiate on pay/benefits but flexible enough to accept getting out as pay enough], 3.Professional Development Administrator – apps close 5th June [part time, fixed term, same level – secondment?], 4.Inbound Programs Coordinator – apps close 19th June [fixed term, secondment?]. Applications/4 + check daily. *note* successfully receiving an offer negates this goal, and instead switches it to ‘learn the ropes’ – git gud at new job asap, plus cut ties with those abusing you for your knowledge, work that ‘not my job, not my problem’ muscle. Da list! Whenever I check one of these bad-boys off I get to do a little dance-party. I need to think of something in addition to that, but for now it’s my placeholder. This stuff needs doing and the sooner the better. 11 Quote Mini | | Jan 16 || Feb 16 || Mar 16 || April 16 || July-Aug 16 || Aug-Sep 16 . || Sep-Oct 16 || Oct-Nov 16 || Dec 16 || Jan 17 || March 17 || April 17 || May 17 || August 17 || Sep 17 || Oct 17 || Grind it out || Jan 18 || Feb 18 || April 18 || May June 18 || Nov 18 || Oct 19 || Early 2020 || Halfway thru 2020 || Yasha High-5s herself || Jan 2023 || Current Challenge: Yasha holds steady (Feb-Mar 2023) Link to comment

Yasha92
Hi Yasha!! Following you again. Good luck with finding a new position. I think the change will do you a lot of good. Thanks, I hope to be successful in obtaining a role somewhere else... but developments below... Good luck looking for new work. Your List looks cool! x Thanks I'm hoping to colour (or sticker... haven't decided yet) some of those boxes pretty soon~ Toxic work environments are soul-sucking, getting out of dodge is always fun. Following again. Tricky tricky... So. I have issues with both the Team Leader and the Manager (though I get along well with the senior manager). I arrived to work today to an email letting us know the TL is taking another position and is leaving us in June. It gets tricky because it's a week and two days after my 'appointable' timeframe of 12months since I last interviewed for the role... so technically I have to interview again etc. though I could possibly chat with the senior manager about letting the previous interview stand. The conundrum- I don't know if I want to be Team Leader under this bitchy manager. I think the fulltimers would still go for other roles and I'm not sure I could salvage things as the manager doesn't listen to me at all and is terrible at taking feedback... but multiple casuals have come to ask me if I'll be taking up the TL role. It is still in the timeframe of the managers probation, so technically could still get rid of her with no reason, though the entire team seeking work elsewhere might be a bit of a reason... I'm going to take some time to think on it, have a meeting with my old boss/es to pick their brains and wait an outcome of this other role... so complicated... 9 Quote Mini | | Jan 16 || Feb 16 || Mar 16 || April 16 || July-Aug 16 || Aug-Sep 16 . || Sep-Oct 16 || Oct-Nov 16 || Dec 16 || Jan 17 || March 17 || April 17 || May 17 || August 17 || Sep 17 || Oct 17 || Grind it out || Jan 18 || Feb 18 || April 18 || May June 18 || Nov 18 || Oct 19 || Early 2020 || Halfway thru 2020 || Yasha High-5s herself || Jan 2023 || Current Challenge: Yasha holds steady (Feb-Mar 2023) Link to comment
Yasha92
Still zero week, so going easy on the goals... I sketched up a more accurate time-committments-table and by my calculations I have 7.5 hours per day 'to myself' where I'm not at gym, work, class, DnD or between those things... notice how sleep isn't on that list? No wonder I've been a tired, grouchy mess... then I wasted 2 of those precious hours watching the new pirates of the Caribbean movie, which was so bad, but we had a good time watching it and it got Mr out of the house when he was in a mega depressive funk, so for that I'm grateful. Still undecided on the TL front, at this stage I figure I'll apply for it, then see if anything comes up in the meantime... Back at the gym after missing 3days and it was a guzzler. 6 Quote Mini | | Jan 16 || Feb 16 || Mar 16 || April 16 || July-Aug 16 || Aug-Sep 16 . || Sep-Oct 16 || Oct-Nov 16 || Dec 16 || Jan 17 || March 17 || April 17 || May 17 || August 17 || Sep 17 || Oct 17 || Grind it out || Jan 18 || Feb 18 || April 18 || May June 18 || Nov 18 || Oct 19 || Early 2020 || Halfway thru 2020 || Yasha High-5s herself || Jan 2023 || Current Challenge: Yasha holds steady (Feb-Mar 2023) Link to comment

Curious, why aren't you allowing yourself Kombucha? Please do I love pinching BuJo ideas from others I'm not allowing kombucha at this stage because it's a gateway fizz, I justify it then all of a sudden I'm justifying the ginger beer and lemonade is not far behind... also earlier in the week I had one and within minutes my hands were shaking uncontrollably (like the cannibals in book of Eli level shakes) which I used to suffer a lot when I was drinking energy drinks, especially the 'sugar free' ones, I'm guessing there's something about the fake sugar that's triggering that. I'm all down to try some homemade kombucha if I come across it, but not the bought stuff... Mandarin and D&D?? We have so much in common! Yasha92
Had a bit of a sleep in this morning, got up 10mins before I normally leave... thankfully it was casual Friday, so I was able to throw on jeans and a dressy shirt that didn't need ironing (who am I kidding... I don't iron) and got going. Work was tolerable, I went for a coffee and sanity walk of about 10mins and missed the group leaving for the monthly birthday cake of awkwardness... it was technically my birthday month so I should have been there, but it's so awkward I'm totally fine with missing it. Went for a walk in my lunch break and found a massive bug hotel at the botanic gardens as big as me and saw some pretty scenes, very fantasyland type stuff... it was a nice break in the middle and helped me hit my steps. Need to figure out where alcoholic beverages fall on the fizzy spectrum... I don't drink super often, so it wouldn't be a massive issue to skip them, but at the same time I don't want to feel deprived... it may well come down to a case-by-case basis... 8 Quote Mini | | Jan 16 || Feb 16 || Mar 16 || April 16 || July-Aug 16 || Aug-Sep 16 . || Sep-Oct 16 || Oct-Nov 16 || Dec 16 || Jan 17 || March 17 || April 17 || May 17 || August 17 || Sep 17 || Oct 17 || Grind it out || Jan 18 || Feb 18 || April 18 || May June 18 || Nov 18 || Oct 19 || Early 2020 || Halfway thru 2020 || Yasha High-5s herself || Jan 2023 || Current Challenge: Yasha holds steady (Feb-Mar 2023) Link to comment

It's always a blast to explore places that make you feel like your lost in a fantasy realm. Wolf I forget how much I adore going into the garden and taking photos, such a massive boost to my mental health. Doing the step challenge with work (is anyone else doing the global corporate challenge? We should be mini league buddies!) really reminds me to get out and go for a walk in my lunch instead of plonking down in the lunchroom and staring at my phone for and hour instead of my computer. Work-wise I'm sure something will come up, in time at least. If you are a fan, I suggest red wine! You get to have your alcoholic beverage, but I think it's easier to drink less / slower (that could just be me too). Unfortunately I don't like wine (or beer-type beverages either, what kind of Ranger am I?!) I can tolerate cider, but that's about the only off fruit/veg flavour I can stand (even kombucha some days makes me shudder)... usually it's hard liquor or cocktails. Interesting, I've nevere heard of bug hotels before. That garden looks so pretty. Agreeing with Sylvaa on the Red Wine, They are meant to help encourage the right type of bugs (pollinators etc) into your garden and into a place where you won't disturb them with digging etc (perhaps your yard might benefit from a bug hotel, I recall your bee situation, how frightening), it's particularly useful for Aussie native bees which tend to like the leaf-litter which so often gets cleared away in traditional gardens, leaving massive stretches where they can't rest/sleep/have baby bees. I love those gardens so much it's where we're getting married I'm the opposite... I'm the opposite too, but maybe in the other direction I'm assuming 3 Quote Mini | | Jan 16 || Feb 16 || Mar 16 || April 16 || July-Aug 16 || Aug-Sep 16 . || Sep-Oct 16 || Oct-Nov 16 || Dec 16 || Jan 17 || March 17 || April 17 || May 17 || August 17 || Sep 17 || Oct 17 || Grind it out || Jan 18 || Feb 18 || April 18 || May June 18 || Nov 18 || Oct 19 || Early 2020 || Halfway thru 2020 || Yasha High-5s herself || Jan 2023 || Current Challenge: Yasha holds steady (Feb-Mar 2023) Link to comment

Yasha92
I need to research this more. If I see a particularly juicy article I'll send it your way Saturday, last technical day of zero week (though I always start my challenge on a Monday). Made the very last minute decision this morning to go to the crossfit games qualifier and watch the athletes do their thing... so I bought the ticket online, walked to the library to print it then walked to the stadium to watch. I was suitably impressed and I stayed for the whole thing (I got there a little after the start and missed on heat of the teams), by the end I was about to doze off in the last heat of women, but then someone came from behind in a dramatic takeover and it was exciting enough that I popped awake again. Interesting to me was the stuff available at the snack bar... I brought with me a banana and a bag of cashews, and had a serve of cheese and crackers before I went in since the thing went all day 9-5, but I still needed lunch so I popped out while they were changing the set up between teams to singles and the snack bar had roast chicken and veggies, veggie curry with rice, an assortment of protein balls etc and sweet potato chips. I bought sweet potato chips and a cup'o'fruit, I suspect the menu was based on the customer base because heaps of the spectators looked like athletes as well. Afterwards walked over to friend's house where the boys were playing their game and hung out for a bit had a kip on the couch then came home. For honesty sake I did have a can of soft drink. Because my brain can be a jerk and it was 'my last chance'. 5 Quote Mini | | Jan 16 || Feb 16 || Mar 16 || April 16 || July-Aug 16 || Aug-Sep 16 . || Sep-Oct 16 || Oct-Nov 16 || Dec 16 || Jan 17 || March 17 || April 17 || May 17 || August 17 || Sep 17 || Oct 17 || Grind it out || Jan 18 || Feb 18 || April 18 || May June 18 || Nov 18 || Oct 19 || Early 2020 || Halfway thru 2020 || Yasha High-5s herself || Jan 2023 || Current Challenge: Yasha holds steady (Feb-Mar 2023) Link to comment

Mr and I then went for a walk to get the steps up, finished at the grocery store to get some stuff to make dinners, they had rotisserie chickens for almost half price so we bought 2 and I chopped and divvied them into quarters ready to take for lunches or dinners, we also made a big batch of chilli for dinner tomorrow and maybe have some leftovers. Yasha92
Soooo... I may have met with the trainer this morning to swap from ROAR to PT with a focus on lifting because I may or may not have signed up for a novice lifting comp on the first weekend of August #Itotallydid #defectingtothewarriors #bringontheproteinfarts We tested my 1RM on bench and it was 35kg (5kg up from my no-rep last week), so we've set a goal for that, we'll test squats and deads and work a program from there. lil bit excited, lil bit nervous about dropping roar... Oh also, my nuts got stuck in the vending machine (!) After a couple of butt-nudges which didn't shift them trainer had to get the key, several more minutes of shaking fists and slightly bending the key (oops! Trainer not me, trying to brute force it), I thought to google how to open it- turns out you have to turn the key one way, then unscrew the handle the other way... thank you internet we'd never have figured that out! 6 Quote Mini | | Jan 16 || Feb 16 || Mar 16 || April 16 || July-Aug 16 || Aug-Sep 16 . || Sep-Oct 16 || Oct-Nov 16 || Dec 16 || Jan 17 || March 17 || April 17 || May 17 || August 17 || Sep 17 || Oct 17 || Grind it out || Jan 18 || Feb 18 || April 18 || May June 18 || Nov 18 || Oct 19 || Early 2020 || Halfway thru 2020 || Yasha High-5s herself || Jan 2023 || Current Challenge: Yasha holds steady (Feb-Mar 2023) Link to comment

Yasha92
Monday of week 1 and a pretty good day really. No soft drink Passed, no soft drinks today, did have some milk and lots of tea when I felt that urge but it's starting to get so chilly I want hot drinks not cold, so hopefully that will make this bit easier. Move that tush! Gymmed- doubled bench and boxing and hit a new 1RM for bench of 35kg, also hit 16,000 steps. Become the Master! Met my Mandarin buddy to go over our verbal assessment due tomorrow, also have tomorrow off to study for it as well, will need to blog post tomorrow coz I haven't done it yet. Get out! Tricky one today... Senior manager asked to meet with me and offered me the opportunity to act as Team Leader while they recruit for the permanent role which will be 8-10weeks at the higher rate. I agreed to the secondment, partly because I respect this manager and partly because I recognised I'll be doing the work anyway, I might as well get paid for it. It did give me an opportunity to voice my concerns around the manager (and to some degree the team leader too) and she was concerned to hear the details I was able to provide but grateful that I told her... as part of the secondment there will now be a clear outlining of the expectations of each role and what manajerk gets to call the shots on and what she needs to not on. I'm skeptical but hopeful, I like this manager and hope she has enough sway that with the removal of the TL and myself and her on either side of the middle manager we can mould her into a better worker, or make it clear that's she's dodgy as duck and get rid of her... either way is fine by me. As such I didn't put in a new application and the time was used up in this meeting going over the secondment option. Don't have any food photo goals this time around, but did remember to photo my lunch and dinner. 7 Quote Mini | | Jan 16 || Feb 16 || Mar 16 || April 16 || July-Aug 16 || Aug-Sep 16 . || Sep-Oct 16 || Oct-Nov 16 || Dec 16 || Jan 17 || March 17 || April 17 || May 17 || August 17 || Sep 17 || Oct 17 || Grind it out || Jan 18 || Feb 18 || April 18 || May June 18 || Nov 18 || Oct 19 || Early 2020 || Halfway thru 2020 || Yasha High-5s herself || Jan 2023 || Current Challenge: Yasha holds steady (Feb-Mar 2023) Link to comment
