An army of Shadowrunners was my No2 pick after an army of Pro Wrestlers, but I couldn't figure out how to make the jump from awesome individuals to entire armies, they both felt more like lieutenant/hero figures to me. Well done, very well done.

Okay, I'll admit I've never played Warhammer before, but I have been known to get quite competitive with the other half over a game of Risk  It sounds like a lot of fun, and I'll do my best to keep up.

 

So, if I've read this right:

1. I get to pick an army (LOTR fan, my mind is jumping between Elves and an army of Dúnedain, if you conveniently forget that there's not actually that many left in Middle Earth...)

2. I have to create a leader for this Army and I get to write a backstory for him or her and said army.

3. We accumulate resources over the week doing exercise related goals (workouts, individual exercises, cardio). What happens with the whole territory thing? Is it distributed according to how many resources people have? Like a leaderboard type of deal?

So you will spend these resources to purchase troops. Then at the end of the week you will expand into territories.

Okay, so if I've done this right: I have a host of Dúnedain, the powerful yet secretive Rangers from Middle Earth, led by Avorniel, a Ranger said to be descended from King Elessar himself. A ceaseless guardian of the innocent, skilled with both bow and blade, Avorniel, once a Ranger patrolling the wilderness alone, is new to the pressures of leadership.

"Welcome warriors!" The word forms in your mind. But to say you hear them would be a gross understatement. The words dig into your mind. Making all thought impossible. 

 

The great storm, if you can even call it that, has ravaged your land and your world. A great portal now lies open before you. Just beyond its border a ruined landscape.

 

You can sense the presence in your mind as you look around you. Feel its joy as it seems to see through your eyes. 

 

"Step forward warriors, for there is only one chance at survival."

 

You slowly motion yourself and your chosen warriors to step forward cautiously. A figure materializes before you in a manner unlike you have ever seen. Not unlike a hologram or magical illusion, but something far darker. An immense hooded figure stands. Hand on the end of a massive hammer. Dark energy swirls around him, and the image seems to flicker and distort. 

 

Pure malice imminates from it.

 

"Warriors your skill has not gone unnoticed. Nor, unappreciated." The figure smiles. "I have brought you here, across all time and space for the most glorious of contests. Many more portals, just like the one before you continue to open across the world beyond. You must enter, and fight all who oppose you to destroy their gateway. Know that if your gateway is closed your world will be destroyed!" He raises his hand into the air and closes his fist. Laughing.

 

"To the victor, go the spoils..."

Quick update post everyone. if you havent read my last "RP" post it set the scene for the world. I truly hope that you guys will write up some interesting intro as to how your army chooses to deal with the situation!

 

I have updated the first post for clarity, as well as adding some guides and more info to it. I suggest everyone check it out. I see most everyone is tracking and moving along nicely! If you have any questions about the spreadsheet please let me know. I will update the master sheet as time goes on. Feel free to adjust your own spreadsheet to your liking!

 

I am hoping to have a simple map up tomorrow. It will be a simple hex grid. I will do a random draw to the order of who gets to pick their locations first. There will be very few restrictions. It will look something like this.

 

 

The biggest rule will be that you have to start a certain distance away from another player. Probably 1. 

 

This is the battle map. You will deploy your troops among the specified areas on the "board"

 

I would like to cover a few quick things here as well, and will archive them somewhere in the first post eventually.

 

ALLIANCES are allowed, but they will come with certain strings. An alliance needs to be declared openly in this thread when agreed to. As well, unless under certain circumstances, alliances of more than 3 will not be permitted. Unless of course some fool openly challenges all players... but who would be crazy enough to do that! ... lol

 

The biggest thing is I want this to be fun for everyone. 

 

Also this is the "beta" test for this game so I want your feedback on how I  can improve and tweak aspects of the game to make it more fair, and fun.

 

I will also have the option for people to play and use the "AI". Meaning that for aspects of the game they are not familiar with I can give them suggestions and help them out. So if your hesitant about playing dont be! I want everyone to have fun!

"This is my last run.  Rex is dead shot in the back by Wolf, Angel has gone AWOL and Mirage is working with Renraku.  At least the mercs I hired are loyal, they better be for what I paid them" Myrik thinks to himself.  Just as he passed the first checkpoint at the Arcology, a supernatural storm whipped up around Seattle.  The Arcology became the focal point of the storm, with lightning striking the Arcology and large hail shattering windows as the winds flung the glass shards around like millions of flechette.  Just as quickly as it started the storm stopped.  After checking himself, Myrik noticed only a few buildings were left standing: the local Street Samurai Club, a Biker Gang's hideout, The Lonestar's Wasp hanger, Seattle University's Hermetic Magic Wing, and Weapons World.  As people start to file out of their respective shelters they all feel the words of an unknown entity.  While it is "speaking," several portals open up showing the denizens of Seattle a ruined and war-torn land of constant strife.  Myrik calls out to the last remaining inhabitants of Seattle,  "Let's go save the rest of this God-forsaken world we call home."

A quick question about the resources. I do 3 push ups a day (though I'm hoping that'll slowly increase to my goal of 10). Am I able to add those throughout the week, or would they only count for one day? I should have 21 total at the end of the week. Thanks

All repitions add up to the weekly goal, capping at 500.

 

As well you can scale your push ups to get additional reps in (it will also help you with your push ups!) So if your doing 3 regular push ups at a time, feel free to through some incline push ups into the total as well! This keeps it fair for everyone!

Yes everything refreshes at the end of the week. The goal is that you will be recruiting troops at the end of each week and spending the points you earn then. (Haven't decided if they will roll over or not yet).

 

Then on the sunday of the next week you start over again.

For a long moment, Avorniel remained motionless, staring into the portal in front of her and the other dúnedain. A growing knot of horror was pulling at her stomach, and for just one moment, she found herself wondering how it had come to this, how this could possibly be happening. Middle Earth – nothing was dearer to her than her homeland, unless it was the many peoples that lived there, the ones she spent so much of her life guarding. Who knew what she would face through the portal.

 

“Maybe they’re all orcs and goblins,” she muttered softly, inaudible to all but herself. Killing orc was nothing new. Nor goblins. But this… neither she or her small band of rangers had ever faced something like this before.

 

 Someone laid a hand on her shoulder and squeezed it briefly. She turned to face the Ranger who had stepped forward. Elladan. His grey eyes held her gaze and she saw the same dilemma etched into his careworn face as she knew must be evident on hers.

 

“Not the kind of fight we’re used to, is it?”

 

“No.” Avorniel spoke softly. “It’s an impossible choice. Unless we fight, we lose our homeland and everything we hold dear. But if we do and we win, then someone else loses theirs.”

 

“If we win,” The ghost of a smile traced across Elladan’s lips. “Like we could lose with a daughter of kings at our helm. You have Aragorn’s blood in your veins.”

 

“Through several generations,” Avorniel reminded him. “And I’ve never sought leadership.”

 

“No, but you are our leader, and we will follow you. Don’t forget, we live our lives, all of us, by a sworn duty, to defend Middle Earth and its inhabitants. We cannot falter now.”

 

 Avorniel squared her shoulders. “I know. And who knows? Maybe we can make an alliance. There must be some other armies drawn into this fight like ourselves, as well as forces of evil.”

 

“It is likely. We can only see what awaits us, beyond that,’ Elladan waved towards the portal. Avorniel nodded, and summoned the rest of her small host. Facing them, she lifted her chin a little, and when she spoke, her voice was as clear and high as the morning sun.

 

“We may not have chosen this fight. But make no mistake, it is our fight now. Now, I know our people have lost a homeland before,” she told them all, her voice warming to the task. “But this is different and more deadly. There will be no chance of recall should we fail. It is not Númenór, or even Gondor at stake. Middle Earth itself will fall and be ruined if we do not fight. What say you, Dúnedain of the West?”

 

 Several voices joined in the war cry that followed. She turned, hand resting on the pommel of the sword at her side, and prepared to step through the portal. Although she did not know it, she looked ever more like her forefather, King Elessar, as she walked. Many said she bore his likeness in her dark hair and keen eyes. But now she bore his resemblance in the steady way she walked, and the look in her face, of one going into battle not to change the world, but to preserve it, much as Aragorn himself had done in centuries past.

Two quick thoughts.

 

First, if you set the resources gained at .1 for running/yoga/rowing and then put in the time/distance total it will give you the same answer as putting in 1 resource and then mathing out the differe #lazy #nomath #excelformula

 

Second: Are the resources resetting from zero week or do we just get to roll them over considering this is actually the start of the challenge?

Not quite sure I get what you mean by using 1 instead of .1. The calculation is that for every 10 meters you run you get 1 point. Hence the .1 (500m = 50 etc). Yoga is 10 per minute (unless I have a typo up top)

 

The resources form zero week are rolling into the first week.

Example. I ran a 5k. 5000 meters. Which nets me 500 points.

 

However, if I put in my resources gained as 1, then 5000 in the amount completed, it calculates at 1x5000=5000. If I do it at .1, then .1x5000=500. Unless you specify a row to do that math, it's going to multiply by the two columns only.

So what you are saying is that it should be .1 in the resources gained column right?

Druhn turned away from the console with a grin. The frail robed figure shuttered the projection equipment and ceased his incantation. The much larger man dwarfed the robed figure, but he did not cower in fear. Even as Druhn raised his left hand, sparking with unholy energy the robed figure did not waver. Druhn placed his hand upon the mans head and dark energies coursed into the tiny being. 

 

His screams could be heard across the planet. Bones snapped and reset as they grew. The dark magic knitted his existing enhancements into new forms, his lean body grew muscular and tall. The dark energy burned out his eyes, replacing them with hollow sockets glowing the same dark yellow and crimson. Smoke rose from the figure as his robes began to burn, but still Druhn clutched the man.

The man lived on the edge of life and death in every moment. Knowing that failure would be his end. After what seemed an eternity Druhn removed his hand. A wicked smile on his face. The robed figure gasped for breath, newfound power coursing through him he looked up.

 

"Rise my faithful servant. From this moment forward you will be known as Magnus. Leader of my armies." 

 

Magnus bowed, then rose. Finding himself floating just above the ground. His tattered robes trailing behind him. He took his leave, heading to the great courtyard outside his masters fortress. He paused, considering. He had all of time and space to draw loyal subjects from. But where to start. He closed his eyes, drawing on his newfound powers. Seeing across the vast expanse of this reality in a blink of an eye. Until he saw them. Ferocious warriors, not unlike his master in stature and appearence. These would do nicely he thought.

 

Using his masters gift he opened a portal before them. The figures entered warily as Magnus read their minds. These would easily be swayed. 

 

"Long has Valhalla waited for you warriors, come, the battle is just beginning."
