imjustarogue Posted May 25, 2017 Report Share Posted May 25, 2017 It’s time for another round of “I’m not prepared for the Insane Inflatable 5k!” Woohoo! To remedy this, I need to get out. I’m not super concerned about being able to run it, because I’m with a great group of people and we’re all cool with walking/running/jogging/whatever so long as we all have fun. What I do not want to do is *die* while climbing up the inflatables. Last year, because I’m a doofus, I did this 3 months post-partum and skipped the last few obstacles. It was just too much, so rather than, ya know, pass out, I walked around them. (it was also really hot last year...) This year, we opted for an earlier wave, I am almost down to my pre-pregnancy weight (though not my pre-pregnancy fitness), and my goal is to be able to climb up and bounce down all of the obstacles - even if that means walking between them. A few things I can think of to prepare include: Going out for walks with bebe, making sure they are more vigorous than “strolling with the stroller” walks a couple times a week Going out for a short jog once or twice a week While out for a walk or jog, stop at the middle school (great since school will be out next week) for a mini circuit with inverted rows, incline push ups, and wobbly balance beam trickery. Running up my staircase when I have to go upstairs - I will not run down them, even in grippy shoes because I had a pretty bad fall once upon a time a while a go, but if I run up them, that can help condition my legs for some of the climbs up the inflatables and also help with some endurance (because, maaaan…. I am soooo out of breath walking up our stupid stairs. Time wasn't great, but that's not why I was out. I wish I could have stayed out longer, but a) my body wasn't ready for that, and b) my phone was dying and I really wanted to make sure to track whatever I got done. My chest innards were also getting all scratchy. stupid allergies. I miss being Runner 5. Maybe tomor.... Maybe Sund... Sometime. Sometime soon I will get my zombie run on And for what it's worth, I don't think the course will be nearly as hard for you this time around. imjustarogue Posted May 31, 2017 Author Report Share Posted May 31, 2017 Haven't done any walking or running or anything since Thursday (unless you count running around running around like whoa on graduation day), and I can't quite "run" up the stairs, but I do walk up them quickly enough that my glutes are yelling at me to knock it off. So, maybe I should add 5 squats when I get to the top just to show them who's boss? >:) Exciting news for me - on Sunday, I was able to wear my next size down jeans and they were totally not uncomfortable even with all of the sitting for the graduation ceremony, errand running, party set up, and all of that fun stuff! I was - and am! - super excited about that. My capris were starting to feel a little butt-baggy... I'll still wear them, since I only have a few pant-like clothings, but now I have one more in my stash. Haha I forgot I even said that. Omg today. Today, detailed in my battle log, I have made many, many, many, trips up and down the stairs. No victory squats, but I did tell husbandperson that my silver lining related to the reason for so many trips was involuntary training for the 5k. He smiled. I am sore. And tomorrow, more stairs. And then Saturday is much walking around at a ren faire! imjustarogue Posted June 7, 2017 Author Report Share Posted June 7, 2017 I am still managing to make it upstairs without dying and doing so faster than a snail, so yay! Last night, I went for a walk. It was a stroller walk, and while it wasn't super vigorous, it wasn't sloth slow either. My lower back has been kind of tight the past couple days so my hips/legs didn't want to move much. Think it indicates that I should go for another walk tonight when it's cooled off again. Bebe liked swinging at the park. I walked almost all day on Saturday at the faire and it was fantastic (except for the hot), though by the end of the day, my body was all "ok, I'm done now." But it was still ok. imjustarogue Posted June 7, 2017 Author Report Share Posted June 7, 2017 Waiting for a work-related website thing to do it's thing and it's being really slow, so I did some single-leg, not quite, shrimp squats. I can't get all the way to the ground - or if I can, I can't get back up... But this looks like it has a good progression once I can get to the ground: I have to say that hearing the cartilage in my left knee sound like someone eating celery is gross. imjustarogue Posted June 7, 2017 Author Report Share Posted June 7, 2017 It's "supposed" to be an easier progression from regular squats than pistol squats, but I don't know anything about anything, so take that info with an appropriate amount of salt. I forgot to mention that I assisted myself by holding on to the doorframe. But I'm gonna use my foam pad and I'm gonna try going from down to up and see if that's better than from up to down. Also got in a bit of a "workout" destructifying some fluorescent light covers earlier today while helping my mom volunteer. That was fun and resulted in some hand blistering. Wee. Inflatable run is in a week. Woo! To prepare, I bought myself this tank because how awesome is it?? And, even though I'll have to get up earlier, I'm gonna attempt to do the Wonder Woman braid that @Asa Pond posted over in her thread because it just looks amazing.
