Honeybadger: Boot(camp) and Rally

-Think of plans that will keep me out of the house as much as possible. No bonus kid buffers this weekend. Unfortunately the forecast is rain all weekend so a destination RWR is out of the question.

Library or bookstore? Museum? Local cooking or craft class? Movies or local theater production?

Go for scouting drive in one (or more) of the towns you're interested in moving to; get a feel for where the supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, parks, gas stations, banks, hospitals and other amenities and services are located. Look up various apartments in your chosen location(s) and check them out. Most offices will have a "show" apartment or two, and are happy to do a walk-through with drop-ins. It's amazing how much smaller or open apartments can seem in contrast with the photos on the internet. It'll also give you a chance to get a feel for the management, and ask directly whether they allow pets (and if they make exceptions; a lot of places do, but don't advertise it).

The key to an enjoyable scouting-out is not having any expectations, and focusing solely on the exploration of it. Like an adventurer looking for a new or hidden civilization, or an anthropologist out to observe an unfamiliar tribe: you can make a checklist if you want, or just keep your eyes open and be pleasantly surprised.

Ask a friend to go with you, if you're nervous. You can turn the whole adventure into a scavenger hunt - There's a steakhouse! Found Starbucks! Where the hell is the shopping mall?! I haven't seen a single car mechanic yet, but that's the 6th bicycle shop we've passed in 30 minutes...

I have a realtor!!! Less than 24 hrs she got back to me. I feel so much more comfortable working with someone I trust. Helps ease the anxiety. Today is turning out to be a good day (it's only noon). I'm going to try to get a run in today if it manages to not rain. If it does I'll get a DM run in.

Thanks Evicious for the pep talk!  I'm having a very lazy start to the day. I think I would like to go to some junk/thrift furniture stores. There are a few pieces of furniture that I will need. That might be today's adventure.

Today ended up being a fairly lazy day. I did some adulting (laundry, packing). I got a 3 mile DM run in. I really felt like I ran out of gas much like Sunday. I might have to revise my running goal until I get more accustomed to bootcamp.  Did some abs, stretching and foam rolling. Ate some Thai inspired meatballs and then Halo Top ice cream for dessert.

Big plans for the evening include showering and watching Doctor Strange on Netflix! I have the apartment to myself so I can watch on the big TV.

Weekly update:

Exercise- Rangered!

I love my bootcamp classes! I am going to try to find a way to afford to continue to attend. I'm pretty sure I can swing it for the summer at least. Running is harder because I am tired and sore. I hope I will get used to it and will be able to figure out a way to do both without burning myself out.

Goal 1: Go to bootcamp at least 2-3x/week

I made it to bootcamp 2x this week. I skipped the Monday Murph workout to hang out with a friend. Holy cow did I forget how much DOMs suck!!

Goal 2: Run at least 2x/week (one run should be a "long" run of at least 4 miles)

I ran twice both times for 3 miles. I seriously did not feel like I had another mile in me both times. I definitely want to get back to running 4 miles. I think I just need some time to adjust.

Life- Rangered!

I have been holding it together and staying busy. I have yet to curl up into a ball and stay in bed...so that's a win. I have actually been fairly productive consistently.

Goal 1: Apartment search-

Apartment hunting is very anxiety provoking for me under the best of circumstances. The first realtor never got back to me. I called and followed up via email and nothing. I feel bad because she was referred by a friend and expecting me to contact her. Fortunately I got another referral from a friend who responded within 24 hours. She should be calling me tomorrow to discuss what I am looking for. Fingers crossed because I am not having much luck looking on my own.

Goal 2: Don't isolate- Same as last challenge, I need to be active on the forums and make it a point to stay busy. Reach out to people, make plans, take people up on offers to help.

I think I have done a good job here as well spent the holiday with a friend, been active on the forum and with Evicious' accountabilibuddies group. I have been avoiding my mother because I haven't want to tell her about the breakup. This week I need to put on my big girl pants and tell her. No therapy this week because my therapist is away so I will need to beef up my support.

Goal 3: No stabbing- figured this was worth keeping. I am going to broaden the goal to include avoiding the low road. It does not help the situation and ultimately makes me feel worse. I will confess my indiscretions.

No stabbing, high road taken. I am trying to focus my energy on positive things.

I feel like this week was successful overall. I have been holding my shit together pretty well and staying busy. Today is a rest day. I did a little more laundry and ran an errand. I have started my "To Do" list for the week. My car is having a problem with it's exhaust system. As far as I can tell it is a crack in one of the pipes. That is at the top of my list.

Last night turned out to be a hard night (I will break the Sunday curse yet). It was after Fear TWD so at least there were zombies. Today has been a hard day as well. I wish I was better at predicting when this might happen. I think the reality of moving and starting over is setting in. Picturing the condo with my stuff gone and having no idea what my life is going to look like in the next month or so. I'm trying to stay positive, be kind and patient with myself but this shit is hard!

I did did make it to bootcamp and did not cry during the WOD. Not that anyone would have thought anything was wrong because burpees. The warm up was just as bad as the WOD. I wish I could remember all the torture but I think I blocked it from my mind.

Todays WOD

Spoiler

5 Rounds

Every 4 minute start a new round

500 m row

20 burpees

I did not do all 20 burpees because I am slow. So basically I did my row and then did burpees until it was time to row again...until I wanted to die....and then did two more rounds.

Because of my emotional day I did not make much progress on my "To Do" list. I did pack a few more clothing items and I told my mother about the break up ( this is huge for reasons too complicated to get into here).

21 hours ago, Xena said:

Huge win on getting the realtor lined up. That should make the whole thing more efficient, and honestly less stressful. She'll deal with a lot of the people so you won't have to!

The bootcamp seems to be really working out well!

I feel like it is the right direction to go in. The areas I am looking to move to are near two local universities so I am competing with students but also don't want to be shown student rentals. Unfortunately I did not hear from her today. I reread her email and she said "probably should be able to" make contact on Monday. I am not going to let my anxiety take over. Unlike the first referral, I know my co-worker is good friends with her and speaks highly of her professionally.

Bootcamp is is literally kicking my ass.

No glitter bombs should be added to No Stabbing.

Hang in there, once you get out things will get better, trust me. The best night's sleep of my life came the first night in my own apartment after moving out of the house I was living in with the ex.

I am struggling to say today is a good day but it is a little better than yesterday. The rainy and unseasonably cold weather is not helping. I crossed a few things off my list. I scheduled an appointment to have my exhaust looked at with a new mechanic for Friday. I will also ask for an estimate to have my timing belt replaced. I have one from my usual mechanic but he only uses factory parts so he is expensive. He does good work but right now I need to save money where I can. I also packed up some more clothes I won't be needing for the next few months, and sorted out our commingled silverware.

I also sent sent a follow up email to my new realtor. She has not contacted me yet. I think being completely blown off by the first realtor has made me extra nervous. I hope I don't come across as too pushy or annoying. If I don't hear from her by the time bootcamp is over tomorrow I will call realtor #3 (I already have a name and number). I spent most of the afternoon looking online and finding nothing but the same 2-3 apartments that have been listed. I will make an appointment to look at one just to see something.

Bootcamp is tomorrow so I will be up and out of the house. Curious what the torture will look like. I will probably have to go to the Friday night class because of my car.

Here re is the recipe for Thai inspired meatballs. Disclaimer first: this is a mishmash of a recipe that I put together from a bunch of other recipes. AND I'm not a super fussy eater.

1 lb of ground pork (I have also used ground beef but have not tried it with chicken or turkey yet)

3-4 green onions finely chopped ( I use the white and an inch or two of the green)

1/4 c grated ginger (I really like ginger)

2 teaspoon sesame oil (I'm sure you could substitute but it actually is the flavor you are looking for)

2 tablespoons of soy sauce

2 teaspoons of rice vinegar

most of 1 beaten egg (depending on the size of the egg, I add some to bind the mixture but don't want it too wet)

Some some of the recipes I looked at had carrots and cabbage added haven't tried this.

I mix everything together in one bowl. I use my hands to make sure everything is good and mixed evenly.

Let mixture marinate in the fridge for at least an hour. This also makes it easier to form the meat balls.

Form meatballs of whatever size you like. I make mine golf ball sized.

Place on foil lined sheets ( these are messy and ooze when they cook, it looks super gross)

Bake at 400 degrees for 29-25 minutes or until done (it will depend on how big your balls are)

I flip them over once midway through using tongs. They are very delicate mostly because they don't have any bread or breadcrumbs to help bind them together. Sometimes they fall apart. I don't mind because they taste good. I use ginger sesame dressing or make up a sauce with whatever I have at home right now it's sweet and spicy chili paste with soy and rice vinegar.

I need to dabble in Thai recipes. Hubs is weird about Asian food though so he might not be too excited

I'm not sure how the rental market is in your neck of the woods but I've never used a realtor to find an apartment. I've basically always used Rent.com and last I looked you get a $100 bonus from them if you say that's where you found the apartment when you sign a lease, I've gotten $3-400 through them (note: it's been 9 years since I rented, this may have changed). Craigslist is another good option in a lot of places

I can't use the ginger (allergic to ginger) but I will definitely be trying this recipe! Sounds tasty! I think I have some hamburger frozen in my freezer. :)

Thanks for the recipe!

I woke up today at 4:30 and had a hard time falling back to sleep. I probably got an extra hour of sleep between 7 and 8. I was not feeling great but decided to grab some coconut water and head to bootcamp. Turns out I was not just tired but actually a little sick. I Rangered my way through the WOD but almost didn't make it with out having an embarrassing incident. It was rough. One of the only times where I did not feel better after a workout.

Yeah, probably a good idea to move on to a new realtor. From what I hear from friends that have bought houses and stuff, realtors tend to be flaky and it's really annoying to work with them.

You are doing such a good job of battling your anxiety (and desire for revenge!) and even though it probably doesn't feel that way because it's HARD, but you are doing it and that's what counts.

Also totally stealing the meatball recipe. I'm going to make it with chicken though and add carrots, because I love carrots in meatballs- I'll let you know how it turns out!

Today was mostly a good day and I am going to focus only on the good because I'm beginning to feel like Debbie Downer.  I got my car exhaust fixed with a new mechanic. Now my car is quiet and I am not afraid of asphyxiation. The new mechanic also gave me a quote for my timing belt that was lower than my normal mechanic and included extra work to fix a potential oil leak.

Because of getting my car fixed I had to go to bootcamp at night. It was my first time and was really happy when one woman I know from the morning class showed up. She also brought her own jump rope (as I did) so I didn't feel like the only big dork in class.

Today is a good day!

Today started with an unexpected brunch date with a friend. We walked there and then walked past a few apartments I had seen listed on the way back to her place. Stopped to play at the playground and realized that I need to really work on my ability to hang. Literally.

I stopped at Homedepot for more chalk paint and materials for project #2 & 3. Then to the pet store for more meats for my beastie. I got to pet a boxer puppy. They are so cute because they look like miniature boxers just shrunk down. My confession is that I picked up some hard cider as well. I don't drink a lot and very rarely at home but definitely craving a cold adult beverage. I will also have some to bring to my friends house as I'm sure there will be a party/gathering with her visiting.

Guys, guess what happened? I get a voice mail from a realtor connected to the first referral I got from a friend. What's the etiquette? Can I work with two people if they are from different agencies? I really just need to find a place to live before I freak out (tentative freak out date is August 1st if nothing has been found).

Might try try to get a run in today because my running goals for this challenge have been lacking!

Woohoo! Hopefully now you'll get some traction on the apartment hunting.

I don't know what the official etiquette is, but I don't see why you can't work with multiple realtors - you need results whoever does their job best will benefit. Especially after all the run around you've been getting, I would want to hedge my bets.
