dancezwithkittehz - back to basics! ... sort of!

This will be a work in progress since I am ultimate stress-panda right now. Hopefully will have some time to breathe post race this coming weekend and then finalize my goals for the rest of the challenge (aerial will definitely be on the list once I have time to brain and breathe again!) For this week my only goals are:

 

UPDATED GOALS as of Week 2!

 

GOAL 1 - ENDURANCE - Run at least once per week and do a good walk at least once per week (hikes also OK, and if I run or walk more than once that is also OK!)

 

GOAL 2 - LIFTING - I MISS LIFTING. Slowly ease back into lifting 1x per week on Sundays, because I like how dead my gym is on Sundays and I am finally over my mopeyness that my trainer left and realize I NEED TEH LIFTINGS.

 

GOAL 3 - AERIAL - Aerial once per week. If I can't make it to my usual day, replace with core and pull up progression work. (If I go back to lifting on Sundays I cant really do open gym for aerial unless I want to do both in 1 day and that sounds like a bad idea.)

 

GOAL 4- Life goal: DECLUTTER -  This has been an ongoing goal for forever I know, but yeah. Declutter at least 30 min per week!

 

 

WEEK 1 GOALS (Already past, but for a refresher!)

 

1. Run final prep run before race either Weds or Thurs. Trying to decide which day is better. If my sleep is going to be total shit this week I should probably run tomorrow/Weds so I get actual time to recover for a few days pre-race.

2. Pack for race trip earlier in the week so you don't have to stress last minute on Thursday night (key note: I don't want to deal with actual overhead baggage and I am not doing checked baggage so I am strategizing how to fit everything I need in one small backpack)

3. Figure out how to lower stress level NOW. At minimum enough so I can actually sleep. Sleep would be nice. Current strategy is I have cut out class for tonight and any plans I had for tomorrow. May also cancel on nerding on Thursday night. ANY plans are causing me aaah aaah stress give me my time back mode right now.

I SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT! YAY!

 

It probably doesn't help that in addition to all my social plans spring quarter at work is SOOOOOO HECTIC. I almost kind of miss when I was in a department that had less funding and did less end of year events. Almost. I love my job! But also sooo many things coming up.

Captain Obvious here to let you all know IT IS WEDNESDAY. Because apparently I forgot. And then I was completely mystified as to why my direct deposit notification came through today...like..why are you paying me it isn't Wednesday? BUT IT IS. IT IS YOU GUYS.

hello! I also have the anxiety / sleeping issue. and then I get freaked out about how much more sleep I ought to be getting. it is a TERRIBLE circular argument. I'm glad you got some rest last night!

Oh heeey I never posted something I typed up last week that is no longer relevant since RACE HAPPENED YOU GUYS AND I DID NOT DIE. I had a HELL of a time on my second leg of the relay though-- unsurprisingly considering how undertrained I was! I wanted to get to the point where I could run 6 miles because I knew I'd be doing two, 3.5 milers for race day buuut yeah, that did not happen. My longest prep run was 3 miles.

 

BUT I DID THE THING!!!!

 

My first leg was slow and about at the pace I expected. I usually take about 45 min for a 3 mile. My first leg was 3.3 miles I think and I did a total of 54 min (actually more like 52 I think? We stopped to take a team picture before I clicked off my runkeeper.) Considering it was HOT and at higher elevation than I am used to I was totes OK with that! The leg I ran was split between sidewalk and asphalt on the edge of a road (no trail on this part), and was almost entirely flat (it was marked as easy.)

 

My second leg was also marked as easy. However I call total bullshit on that! As opposed to the relatively flat easy first leg, this "easy" had a lot of gradual uphill as well as one pretty gnarly steep hill. The whole thing was also on gravel trails, which I have never had trouble with previously but my legs were just DEAD and gravel was SO VERY NOPE. (Not as bad as if it had been sand, but yeah. Ugh.) On this leg I also very quickly realized my legs were DONE pretty much when I started. Have you ever had a walk or a hike where it feels like your ankles and feet just aren't working anymore and you feel like you really should stop? Yeah that's where my legs were.

Somehow I did the thing but it took me an hour and 20 minutes. OH. And also they marked this leg as 3.5 miles..so when my runkeeper said 3 miles I was like YES ALMOST DONE....and then I rounded a corner to find a "1 mile to go" sign and nearly cried. I walked pretty much the whole thing except anywhere I found downhills I would do a sad zombie shuffle jog letting gravity carry me. I was getting SUUUPER close to the 6 pm cut off time for us to finish when I had 0.1 miles left and I somehow made myself run that whole section. I don't know how. And my legs were SO MAD YOU HAVE NO IDEA.

Much DOMS. Very oww. I'm having to advil myself in order to get any sleep (it wore off in the middle of the night and I woke up at 4am had to take more to fall back asleep.) Also my brief 1/4 mile-ish walk across campus to my office from the parking lot was painful. I am so pathetic today!!!!

Also, Bend is stupidly pretty and I had lots of delicious craft beer soooo YAY.

 

Also,  for dinner on the last night I had possibly one of my new favorite meals ever, breakfast pizza! It was topped with sausage gravy, cheese, bacon, fried eggs, and green onions. NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM.  I need to make this at home with my sausage gravy because it was good buuuut I make really good gravy and it would improve an already delicious thing. Also I need to figure out how to sneak vegetables into this. I could do a cauliflower crust I suppose! But veggie topping that would go well would be good too!

Sooo my legs are still full of oww but I feel like maybe they are finally getting a little less sore?? Slighty? Driving was less painful this morning (an hour commute + super sore crampy legs SUUUUUCKS by the way!) Also, walking to my office from the car sucked but it felt more like actual walking than slow mo hobbling, sooo WIN!

 

I think I hit critical mass for soreness last night and I had to take 4 advil to be able to get things to stop hurting enough for me to sleep (+ I coated my legs in tiger balm for more immediate relief while I waited for the advil to kick in.)

 

I am brainstorming about my ongoing goals. I am thinking something like this (running/walking in particular to be started once these death DOMS are past!):

Aerial was....aerialed? Given that I haven't been in over a month it was definitely struggle bus, buuut considering my body was so dead I could barely walk on Monday I think I did pretty admirably!

 

I have gone from being one of the most advanced in the class to being behind everyone. Woops! Ah well!  Lots of things to work on! I made myself do a lot of conditioning to work on inverting without using momentum (which is a super bad habit that's easy to fall in to especially when I am tired!) I'm thinking adding in one more day of aerial conditioning (core work and hanging stuff) would be a good idea but I don't want to overwhelm myself. Maybe next challenge after I adjust to current schedule!!!

I forgot that aerial (and strength training) = FEED ME ALL THE THINGS NOW FOOD FOOD FOOD.

 

Also more DOMS in different places.  Luckily my leg doms have finally mostly chilled out! I am still not running though until maybe the weekend because I'm going to a wedding tomorrow and I WILL be dancing ALL THE DANCING ALL OF IT.

 

Here's to days at work where I don't get much work done but I will get 2 free meals and pretend to be Vanna White at our awards ceremony! YAY AWARDS DAY! Also if I can manage to not flash people up on rooftop post awards BBQ due to wind that would be sweeeeet. (I HAD TO wear my Dinosaur dress today because it is my only Hawaiian print ish looking clothing item and also DINOSAURS and I work with Earth Science sooooo. I also brought a sweater for emergency trying to keep my dress down purposes.)

Lolol. Heeeey my schedule is actually pretty balanced right now -- for me!

 

And for dancing ALL THE DANCING is the only option! ALL THE DANCING. Ok I might stop to eat for the reception but THEN DANCING.
