Lara
Self-defence day. And my boyfriend is back to it too! Today was rather tiring. We had just finished one of our warming routines when one guy that wanted to try arrived. He was invited to take part of the class that had just began, and to show him the basics of touching/pushing/grabbing, we redid the warm up. Standing, kneeling, sitting and lying. And then with push-ups and sit-ups in between. And then with f*** burpees. And then with "weapons" (foam knives and sticks). And if someone stabbed you, you had to do 5 knees to chest jumps. I was stabbed many times. Please kill me and let's get over with this. Fortunately, the other instructor came to the rescue and we had a fun part with actual sticks, combined with boxing, and then only boxing. No sparring, thanks god. Back at home, in the afternoon, I've done my backward/forward stretches and an abs routine. Now I'll relax with icelandic and will work on my flute when heat goes down. Oh, and something wonderful. Yesterday, a friend called my boyfriend to ask him if he would like to earn some money cleaning his grandmother box room. Aside of the money, they were offered to take home some things the grandma wanted to throw away. My boyfriend chose one pair of totally new high quality mountain boots for me (a tad big, but easy to solve with thick socks and an insole), and a cd player. Our sound system broke years ago and we never bought another one for this or this other reason (we have a saying in Spain for this: en casa del herrero, cuchillo de palo), and this is a superb one, so finally! we can hear again our most beloved music with awesome quality. For first use, we had lunch listening to the eccentric Gilles Apap's version of the Vivaldi's seasons, so fun and weird (violin, double bass, accordion and cymbalum, with some whistling ). 8 Quote The battle must be fought anew every day Link to comment
Mad Hatter
Music win! I could also really do with a decent sound system, but as you said - reasons. Money, research, effort.... 2 Quote Link to comment
Elastigirl
Very productive day. Cool that you got some treasure. I think hiking boots a tad big are better anyway, since you usually wear thick socks 1 Quote Wisdom 22.5 Dexterity 13 Charisma 15 Strength 21 Constitution-13 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind' Luke 10; 27 Link to comment

Lara
It is SO HOT again I was not sure I would be able to attend self-defence tomorrow, so I decided to go today again. It was eskrima class, with some self-defence mixed in, so much lighter than yesterday. Then in the afternoon, I've worked a bit on icelandic after lunch, meditated, done some back and shoulder stretches and practiced a bit the crow and my couch handstand. Now taking a recovery shake right before music practice. I am liking this challenge. I feel I am doing a lot of work and steadily improving several areas. Something curious I learnt today from the icelandic blog I am reading, is that a few years back somebody found that a weird stain in Munch's Scream was indeed bird shit. It seems Munch liked to put his paintings outdoors to sit when they were finished so this happened sometimes and the restorers had the doubt whether the bird shit belonged to the painting or should be removed 5 Quote The battle must be fought anew every day Link to comment

Mad Hatter
Just now, zenLara said: I could say the same about YOUR winter temperatures. I've honestly been way colder in both the UK and California! Outside is a different story, but even then, with the right clothes it's not too bad. You can always add layers, but there's only so many clothes you can take off when it's hot. 1 Quote Link to comment
