Day 1.2

giphy.gif

Oh boy that's a doozy.

96e580ff0117f3f750ba52863d755587.png

Couldn't squeeze out a third rep at ~87#. ALSO, I had been planning on doing my DLs at 260# but couldn't get my set-up to feel right and kept stalling out a couple of inches off the ground, so I just dropped 5# and it was magically fine.  I think I have some issues with my set-up sometimes. Deadlift and I are in a constant dance of correction. Maybe I'll try to get some actual coaching sometime... hah.

Along those lines though, there is an RPS meet that still has openings in NH the first weekend in December. I might just go ahead and sign up. After Dec, I have to switch gears fully back into the gymnastics world for gymnastics season and who knows if I will still be vibing on the powerlifting highs after gymnastics season ends next spring, given the nature of my fitness ADD. Might be good just to get a meet under my belt while I have been focusing on it! :)

Workouts: 2/5

Veggies: 4/14 <-- big pile of carrots with lunch + sauteed shredded crucifers with dinner, which will likely be my easy reach for veggies in this challenge

Cleaning: counters 1/2, sweeping 0/2, boxes 0/1

Beautifying: braiding 0/30, lotion 0/1

Ooh, it'd be really interesting for you to go to a powerlifting meet! And seems like the perfect time, if you can get in a couple of strength-building cycles before December when you take up ballet or pole vault :P I hope you go, even just for selfish vicarious reasons haha... I never got my cake-lifting numbers high enough to be interested competing, but you're on another level!

I feel you...Adding 2.5lb plates to deadlift has been the bane of my lifting progress for like 2 cycles now. 5lbs is 1.01% of my max but feels like someone is sitting on the bar when I try to move it.

All the coaches at my gym teach PL except one who does Oly. Sure someone could run you through a form check session if you dont have anyone already.

Haha, I am very middling for my weight class at this small scale local meet level, so I'm not really looking to impress anyone here, just have the experience. Also it'd cool to see how I perform in a meet environment and connect with other local lifters! :)

I do not actually have a coach in mind! RX Strength and CSC are the two big powerlifting resources I know of, but I am not sure how far down the rabbit hole I want to go. I may hold off until I am done or near done with my current program before reaching out to some possible options. My friend who competed a couple of years ago worked with a trainer at RX as her coach, but would just see him once a week for check-ins and otherwise work out at her local gym with his programming. That is probably the kind of set-up I would want? I dunno! I'll explore my options. :)

I did exactly that when prepping for my comp. I was still living in NH and working out at the local Y but running a program my now coach wrote to prep for comp. When I traveled back to my parents I would drop in for form checks and update discussion or I would send form videos. Worked pretty well for me!

Day 1.3

giphy.gif

My BFF may want to do a 10k for her birthday weekend to celebrate her 30th in September, so I can't take running off of my plate just yet after all. I went for a run during lunch with the goal of hitting at least 4 miles. I just about gave up around mile 3 (with some ankle tightness in my left ankle being especially bothersome), but stopped being a big baby and finished running the last 1/2 mile or so. This is NOT what a pace chart should look like:

2cc51fc526c71317605add9b3103c78f.png

Looooool. But whatever, still hit the 4 miles. I think I may set a time limit rather than a distance limit next time to see if that encourages me to run more or run less and compare. It was also INCREDIBLY humid and I thought it was going to rain on me but instead the sun kept peeking out to burn down on me and make it even more humid. Sad red monster face:

fcfb509b94390636f6f915f0de5f8c55.png

Workouts: 3/5

Veggies: 5/14 <-- forgot my lunch so had a sandwich (not veg heavy), but had a nice pile of vinegary slaw with dinner

Cleaning: counters 1/2, sweeping 1/2, boxes 0/1

Beautifying: braiding 10/30, lotion 0/1

Gymnastics tonight and possibly stoping by a goodbye party for a gym friend, lifting Friday (+90s night! They're apparently STOPPING 90s night and there are only like 4 weeks left!!!), gymnastics Saturday morning + nerd hangs, + rest and beach day on Sunday.

Another option is working with an online coach - my gym buddy (I'd say one of...but I don't make many gym friends ) trains with a virtual coach who's based in Atlanta (he's in Dallas with me). And he's going to PL Worlds in November (idk which fed) so it's totally possible to make good progress without seeing a coach in person (especially if they form check you on video). Lemme know if you want me to get the coach's name.

That's the right attitude - once you're as good as a decent proportion of the competition then you can enter without worrying about feeling inadequate. Maybe we shouldn't feel inadequate even if we're a long way behind the likely competition, but I'd prefer to be at a similar level to at least some of my fellow competitors, otherwise it seems like a separate  "let Daniel lift some stuff" event.

If I suggested to my friends that I wanted to do a run of any length for my birthday, they would soon find someone else's birthday weekend to go to :P You should suggest that you're going to all break the World Record for number of burpees in a day (18896) for your 29th and see how many of your crazy friends sign up...

Definitely an option to go online and I have heard plenty of success! However, working with one of my local places is more in line with what I'd want in terms of ease of access and honestly, as a way to try to connect more with the local strength sports communities. Not that I really can fit all that much more community into my life right now but I can't help trying. :)

Haha, yes! There is definitely some comfort being in the middle of the pack -- no real pressure to win and none of the insecurities of feeling like you are the worst person there.

Physical birthday parties have been a trend for me lately! GORUCK challenges, races, stadium workouts, ninja warrior workouts... all for birthday celebrations. Though the drinking is usually still coupled with these things, just afterward. :P I will have to think of something suitably physical as revenge, but I think world record burpees would just be tooooo cruel.

Day 1.4

giphy.gif

Went to gymnastics practice and worked on the same old things I've been working on whenever I have gone in the past month or so! Floor dance and basics, plus front tumbling up through front handspring front layouts, etc. Then I went over to beam again for back handsprings on the low beam with mats, without mats, and then finally -- FINALLY! -- made the courageous jump to move it onto a high beam... stacked with just as many mats to make it feel like a low beam. :P I really, really want this in my beam routine for the season. I am going to keep working on it and hopefully demolish my fear demons!

We went out for a going away party for a gym friend and I had a couple of beers. I was starving when I got home and figured I would just eat cheese and crackers but THOSE ARE NOT VEGETABLES, so I sauteed ground turkey and ate it with a broccoli slaw and now of course I could pack my leftovers for lunch the next day so obviously a better choice over cheese and crackers. :P

Workouts: 4/5

Veggies: 7/14 <-- tangy crucifers with lunch, broccoli slaw with dinner

Cleaning: counters 1/2, sweeping 1/2, boxes 0/1
