RuthixCube
Well, dear Ranger family, I’m back. Again. I’ve been off and on this challenge train for a few years now, and I think it’s finally time this stuck. I’m feeling good about it, I’m in a good place in my life, so why the hell not, right?! As this is a total respawn for me, I’m starting from the lowest rung on the ladder. Over the last 2ish weeks, I’ve been updating my Battle Log waiting for this challenge to start. For those of you who haven’t seen it, I’ll summarize the last 6-7months since I've been here (in no particular order): -I left an unhealthy and, in hindsight, emotionally abusive relationship -Been doing a whole load of nothing health-wise -Lost a bunch of weight (~15-20lb) in a very short time due to stress/depression and not eating -Gained all the weight back, and more -Opened up to a new relationship -Adopted a baby Hedgehog, whom I’ve named Bean. He’s now 5 months old -Left my soul-sucking job for one that I actually enjoy going to and doing -Stopped going to therapy and am no longer and anti-anxiety medication (YAY!) -I'm in a much improved mental state -Moved into a new apartment this past weekend (6/24) -Added to my tattoo collection with two new arm pieces (part of a planned half-sleeve) and a calf piece Don’t worry, there will be plenty of pictures of the little Beansicle for everyone to see On to the challenge stuff…. I’m going to be focusing on a few general goals over the coming months/year: -Losing weight/dropping fat and gaining muscle -Cutting down on my spending -Learning a new skill -More me time/self care Lose the weight The new complex that I moved into has it’s own fitness center - and it’s in my building! That means I have literally no excuses not to work out. It is mostly limited to cardio machines, but I have a set of adjustable dumbbells and my own bodyweight to use towards strength training. Plus, I have a set of Monkii Bars 2 on order via Kickstarter (they’re like the TRX system). I’m not sure when those are coming in, but it should be soonish. The basic plan is to work out 3x/week, for no less than 40min. I plan to do 20-30 min of cardio, and however much time I need to complete the strength training. Cardio will be whatever I feel like doing that day - stepper, treadmill, bike, etc. I will likely be following along with Zombies!Run for the interval training. For strength, I will be following the NF Academy Bodyweight workouts, switching between A and B. Workout 3x/week, or a total of 12x during the challenge. One of the really bad habits I’ve picked up since the start of the year is drinking a lot of Red Bull. Typically, I have one in the morning to start my day during the workweek. On weekends, I don’t drink them as much, but if I’m out and about it’s highly likely that I will stop at a gas station or convenience store to pick up my dose of caffeine. This needs to stop. The plan it to cut down to 3 every week. It’s going to suck, and I’m going to hate it, but it has to be done. No more than 3 Red Bulls/week, for a total of 12. Cut down spending Another area in which i’ve been terrible is keeping to my budget. I do have a budget, I just have a way of not really following it, and then I end up screwing myself. So, here’s the deal: I get paid every other week, the next time being the 7th - right before the challenge. Every paycheck, I will allow myself to spend up to $40 out of budget. This is money that I need to have in cash - I cannot use my card because that’s how things get out of control. I can spend this money on: Red bull (for the previous goal), take out or dinners out with people, clothes, art supplies, video games or other gaming items, and pretty much anything else that either isn’t already budgeted for or is considered ‘unnecessary’. On Saturdays, I will also evaluate my spending for the previous week and see where else I can improve and take note of it. Spend no more than $40 every other week on non-necessity items, total of $80/challenge. Learn a skill: Digital Art For Christmas, my dad bought me this awesome drawing tablet. It has a full screen display and everything - it just plugs right into my computer and I’m off. As cool as it is, I’ve used it a total of 1 time As I’ve been itching to get back into drawing and sketching, I figured why not incorporate this awesome new tool! Digital art is something I’ve been interested in for years, well, actually it’s probably closer to a decade now that I think about it….man, I feel old haha. I’d like to spend 30-60 min, 3x/wk learning to use the tablet, and to complete one art piece by the end of the challenge. I’m not yet sure what that will be, but I’m brainstorming and going to look into tutorials. It’s so much different from classic drawing, that I’m sure it’s not going to be that great starting out - but that’s why I’m doing this in the first place, right? Spend 1.5-3hrs a week (split into 3 sessions) learning to use my tablet and creating a drawing. More ‘me time’ Yeah, yeah, heads out of the gutter please I’m talking about self care here, time spent focusing on myself and my mental health. As well as I’m doing now in comparison to where I was a year ago, I still struggle regularly with bouts of depression and anxiety. In order to increase the number of good days, I need to make time for me. This could be taking a nap, crafting, playing video games, taking a bath, walking, reading, whatever. Anything I need to lessen the stress and relax for a little bit. This doesn’t mean I can’t do those things outside of this time, this just happens to be scheduled. Schedule 1hr every week to do something just for me. That’s it. Let’s get this shindig started, shall we? Edit: This challenge isn't themed, I'm just all up in the hype for Destiny 2 haha 7 Quote Cyborg/Badass (Ranger) Current Challenge: RuthixCube trains for a 5k - pt 1 Previous: Reboot, 1, 2, "I am Iron and I forge myself." If I need to reevaluate and make changes, I will, but I don't think that will be necessary. Also, @Wild Wolf I pre-ordered D2 for PS4. Don't worry @Red1263, I'm going to get it for XB1 as well, just not right away. I'm so pumped for the Beta! RuthixCube
Well, the weekend is over and now starts a weird interrupted work week. I'm not enthused that I have to work today, but get tomorrow off for the holiday. It messes with me, but I didn't want to take the time off today just to have a longer weekend. It is what it is, I suppose. Saturday was spent relaxing for the better part of the morning, then the BF and I headed over to a friend of his for a 4th cookout. We spent most of the afternoon there shooting the shit, talking cars, and they did a fair amount of swimming. Our local car group was holding a Ladies Meet that night, which I've been looking forward to for over a year now (it's been postponed and such a few times due to location issues). Typically our meets are hosted at parking garages, usually in the Boston area. This time, it was at a Sonic south of the city (which is easier for me). The drive-in spots were reserved for lady drivers, while everyone else was able to park in the lot next door. We got there early and I got prime parking, but it only took 40 min for shit to go down. A girl driving a wrapped GT-R got pulled over right across the street. Apparently, she pulled over into a non-existent lane to go around someone and got ticketed because of it. t ended up bringing the cops down on us. They pulled into the lot next door and started to tell everyone they need to leave or they're going to get towed. At this point, there are 40+ cars in the lot just for the meet, and a bunch of them did leave. The Sonic owns most of the spots in the lot along the road, but the rest are the property of the landlord for the plaza that's next door. From what I understand, the founder of our group tried contacting the property manager to get permission, but was unable to reach them. Anyway, long story short, there were issues with the cops for about 20 min, and then things settled down. They let us stay, so long as most people moved and parked closer to the street. It helped that one of the members was friendly with one of the cops. It did end up being a good time in the end, and we got to chat with people we don't get to talk to or see often. We left around 8:30p and headed home. Initially, the plan was to stop at home and head back to his friend's, but we were both exhausted from being outside all day and mentally drained from so much socializing. Instead, we stayed home and relaxed until we fell asleep. We spent most of Sunday lazing about and getting chores done. We spent about an hour meal planning for the week, and then about another hour grocery shopping. For lunch we had poached eggs and mashed avocado on toasted challah, with garlic and Gruyere chicken sausages on the side. Needless to say, it was amazing and just what we wanted/needed. It left us full for most of the day, too. Can you say #FoodPorn? After lunch, we spent time putting the hedgie cages together. Bean has been living in his crate for the better part of a week, and it's just not enough space for him. We stacked Bean's cage and Nadel's cage (BF's hedgie), with a third level for storage underneath. It actually came out better than I imagined it would. It's a temporary set up for now, as we are going to get a double Ferret Nation cage for them instead. I think Beanie is enjoying having more space now. I'll post some video when I figure out how, so far I know I can do it on the Tapatalk app, but not the NF web page...merp, oh well. We haven't had to use the heat lamps much, as the temps have been staying right around 75-80 degrees, and if it does get too hot, the AC we have in the room cools it down pretty freakin fast. https://goo.gl/photos/YiKt97jCLvtxxfbB9 We were both still full from lunch (thank you, healthy fats and proteins), but we had a few Applegate chicken nugs with a homemade sauce for dinner to make sure we ate enough. I fell asleep pretty early (for me anyway), I think it was around 11p. Speaking of sleeping, I've been having weird cycles lately. For the last, oh, probably a few weeks now, I've been waking up between 5:45-6:15a. My alarms are set for 6:30 and 6:45 on work days, and on weekends I wake up when I wake up (though it's been no later than 8 lately). I'm not sure if it's just my body starting to naturally wake me up earlier, or if there's been too much light in the room in the mornings for me to stay asleep. The only day this didn't happen was yesterday when I slept in until 8:30-9, though I assume that's only because I'd been outside in the sun and heat all day Saturday. Until December-ish, I've always had dark, light blocking curtains in my room. We only have blinds right now, which probably let in as much light as the blinds in the room I was renting from my friend. I have no problem waking up earlier, it's just weird cause I've always been a late sleeper. Plus, I've been dreaming, which is not usual for me. They've been weird dreams that I barely remember when I wake up, too. On a side note, I forgot how weird/awesome/frustrating/insightful it is when learning to live with another person. It's one thing when you have your own places to escape to, but much different when that place is the same for both of you. At least our communication is up to snuff and we are able to compromise when necessary. Challenge stuff: So, this is week zero for me. I'm not including anything from this week in my challenge totals, as it's more of a dry run to see how things might go. 1) Fitness I plan to use the fitness center when I get home from work today. Aiming for at least 20 min of Zombies!Run on the treadmill. Strength will be as follows: Workout A- Incline push ups 3x10 (sets x reps) Squats 3x10 Dumbbell Row 3x10 Finish: Farmers Carry 2x 30-60sec My dumbbells are a little weird - each can weigh 20# with the full set of plates on them. The bars themselves are about 2-3#, and they come with 2x 6# plates and 2x 2.5# plates. I'll likely be using the 6# plates, as anything lower would be too easy for me. All told, each dumbbell should weigh around 15#. Work out: 0/3 2) Nutrition No Red Bull ingestion happened over the weekend, but I did pick one up this morning. I have 2 left for the week (Sun-Sat). Once I finish this RB, I have water for the rest of the day. I'm thinking that next challenge (which I realize is weeks away), I may add in a water goal on top of cutting the Red Bull. Hmmm... Red Bull: 1/3 3) Budgeting Unfortunately, there isn't much I can do with this goal, as I don't get paid again until Friday. What I can do is review my spending at the end of the week. Spending: N/A 4) Skill building I have not yet touched my tablet, but I also cant do much with it until we get internet. Thankfully, that's happening tomorrow (YESSSS). Once we have that, I can set up the WiFi on all my electronics, and get started. I need to do some more YouTube and Google searching for tutorials on how to use different programs. I have a random free one that I downloaded for my tablet, but I'm not enthused with it. I'm glad I didn't go with a paid version before learning about what all else is out there. Digital Art: 00:00 hr/min, 0/3 5) Self care I haven't scheduled this yet, but it will likely happen later in the week due to the holiday. Since we'll actually have internet, I think I'm going to get some much needed gaming in. It will likely be longer than an hour, but at least that. Thank you - he's such a cute little chubber All right - update time!! I unfortunately didn't get a chance to post at all after Monday last week. My 4th was chill - we spent the time with family. Also, I FINALLY HAVE INTERNET! I can watch TV, play online, and not worry about burning through my data - it's been wonderful! The rest of the work week was stressful as fuck, which is what ultimately led to me not updating. The short week was already going to make the week suck, but then I was given last minute projects that had to be done by end of day on Thursday so they could go live on Friday. It really doesn't help that all my usual work is already priority, and then having multiple projects on top of that just made it worse. I ended up in a funk and just wanted to do nothing when I got home. Friday was terrible, I got hit hard with a wave of depression that lasted about 48hrs. I've found that I get hit with short waves like that if I've had a particularly hard week, but they thankfully don't last long. Anyway, even with all that I was able to accomplish some, but not all, of my zero week trial run. ZERO WEEK Fitness I only ended up going once. Between the holiday, my sister accidentally taking the fitness center key with her for a few days, and being generally exhausted from work, I did what I could. Thankfully, it was Zero week, and therefore doesn't actually count. Workout: 1/3 Nutrition This went well, I only had 3 from Sun-Sat. I'm actually really pleased with this, because I've proved to myself already that I don't need it every day or to function at work. Now, I just gotta keep it up! Red Bull: 3/3 Budgeting Never got around to reviewing my spending for the week. Spending: N/A Skill building Nope, I didn't get to this either. In fact, I didn't even pull it out of the box it was packed away in until last night. Digital Art: 00:00 hr/min, 0/3 Self care This, I did do - with some prodding from the BF. I was in a bad funk on Friday/Saturday, and with BF's encouragement I picked up my DS and spent about an hour or more on that. It helped, it really did. Me time: 01:00/01:00 I'm going to create a separate post for the start of Week 1... 3 Quote Cyborg/Badass (Ranger) Current Challenge: RuthixCube trains for a 5k - pt 1 Previous: Reboot, 1, 2, "I am Iron and I forge myself." We're still moving personal items into the new place, and being on the third floor means lots of stairs on a daily basis. Granted, it doesn't count towards my challenge. Therefore, the plan is to hit the fitness center after work and get shit done. I need it. Work out: 0/3 Nutrition I'm already on energy drink #2 for the week I had a Monster Import yesterday when we went to get more of the BFs things from home. That, plus me getting absolutely TERRIBLE sleep last night means I have another one this morning. I have no idea whats going on, but it needs to end soon. I ended up being awake in bed until almost 1:30am, I'd get in and then out of bed: open the window, then close the window and turn on the AC, then turn off the AC and turn on the fan. At some point I must have got up to turn that off too, but I don't remember that. After all that, even when I did fall asleep, it was only in short spurts. I'd wake up every hour or so, or whenever the hedgies would get especially loud. Due to the size of our room, they are right next to the bed, where as in my friend's house Bean was across the room. This is the first time they've woken me up though. The BF had to wake up early today, so I didn't even have a chance to sleep through to my alarm. I'm fine now, but this morning was not fun. I get crabby very quickly when I'm like this, too. Anyway, I have one more energy drink this week. Gotta use it wisely. Red Bull: 2/3 Budget I was so not good about this over the weekend. I've already bought a shirt and a mug, which totals up to about $30. Plus the red bull and the monster, I have just enough left to buy that last energy drink and that's it till the 21st. Spending: $36/40 Skill Building Last night I was feeling blegh and decided to finally pull out my tablet. It's been so long since I've used it that I couldn't figure out how to get it to work initially. Anyway, long story short, I got it running, downloaded FireAlpaca, and watched a few videos on how to use the program. I spent about an hour sketching - it's frustrating and annoying because I know I'm better than what you see on the tablet. There was so much undoing and re-doing that I haven't even finished this little sketch. It also took me a while to figure out what to draw. I may have copied a tutorial I came across and am drawing a simple bust of a female character that I'm making up as I go. It's anime-ish style, but I can't draw realistic people yet so it's going to have to do. Digital Art: 01:00 hr/min, 1/3 sessions Self care I haven't schedule this yet, but it will likely happen later in the week. me time: 00:00/01:00 2 Quote Cyborg/Badass (Ranger) Current Challenge: RuthixCube trains for a 5k - pt 1 Previous: Reboot, 1, 2, "I am Iron and I forge myself." I have one with a screen that mirrors the screen on my laptop, so I can look exactly where I'm drawing instead of on my laptop screen. I prefer this over the traditional style tablet. It's been fun and frustrating so far lol On 7/10/2017 at 4:52 PM, Cheetah said: Solid start! Way to go! Thank you! Week 1, Day 4 It has been quite the whirlwind of events since I last posted. I got to the gym Monday after work; it genuinely shocks me just how far I am from where I was a year ago. I've lost all the strength I gained and feel even weaker than I was prior to starting crossfit. Maybe it's just me being hard on myself, but it sucks and I hate it so much. I have a long way to go to get back to that point, mostly because I have limited access to weights and such right now, but I'm thinking a kettlebell will be in my future. Any recommendations? On a positive note, I got an email yesterday that my Monkii Bars 2 should be shipping in the next week or week and a half! I'm so excited, I've been waiting for these forever and I can't wait to get my hands on them to add a little extra to my work outs. Monday night we took the hedgies out for some cuddle time. Bean was his usual self, but Nadel has been acting out of the ordinary. He's typically a very active little hedgie, but he's been really quiet lately. We knew there would be an adjustment period for them in the new place, but this was different. When we put him on the scale to weigh him, I noticed that he was favouring one of his back legs over the other. We took a look at it, but there was nothing visibly wrong and nothing wrapped around his leg. We put him on some fleece on the floor to see how he moved around, and that was when we saw he was stumbling and actually fell over. BF was so upset, so I took the initiative and contacted his breeder. She had us do some hedgie 'troubleshooting', and then gave us the number of a vet center with an emergency line to call. Long story short, we had to call two places - the exotics vet from the first will be away until Friday, but the second place has multiple exotics vets. They told us that he should be fine over night so long as he's eating normally, but to come is as soon as we can in the morning. We relayed this to the breeder, and per her direction we put Nadel in a small plastic bin with food, water, and his fleece stuff so he wouldn't be able to move or run around too much and would be forced to rest. We were up at 5:30 Tuesday so we could make it to the vet by 7, but the BF ended up getting sick. He has bad stomach problems, and sometimes it makes him physically sick. That plus the discovery that I had a flat tire after we pulled out onto the road made us run later than planned. Had to turn around and switch cars before finally making our way to Boston. Nadel got all checked out and was given some pain meds; he was doing much better yesterday, and was up and moving around without too much trouble. He will need to stay in the small bin for a few more days, but things are looking up. Both of us ended up staying home the rest of the day, and I took a solid nap in the early afternoon. After that I pulled out my car and switched the flat for the spare I have. The weird thing is that my tire looks completely fine - no cracks, rips, tears, scrapes, chunks missing, nothing. The tire is new and looks that way. I have no idea what the hell caused the flat (might have gotten debeaded), so I'm going to ask the dealership to look at it when I bring my car in for an oil change next week. Now, on to challenge stuff - Fitness Monday down, two to go. I'm hoping to make it to game night with my friends, but I'm considering skipping. Between the lack of sleep sunday night, less sleep than usual on Monday, and another bout of awful sleep last night (I didn't fall asleep until after 2am, and it was off and on), I really don't want to do anything. I have to stop at my moms to pick some stuff up, but other than that,I think I'm going to go home, work out, do my hair colour, shower, and eat. Hopefully, I can get to sleep early tonight. Workouts: 1/3 Nutrition Well, this one is a fail this week. I had my third energy drink yesterday after the vet visit. Due to lack of sleep last night, I caved and bought another this morning. That makes a total of 4 Red Bull: 4/3 Finances I'm over on this one too. Spending: $43/40 Skill building No more progress on this yet. I might pick it up again tonight if it's not too late when I get the time to do so. Digital art: 01:00 hr/min, 1/3 sessions Self care I'd like to say my nap yesterday was covered under this umbrella, but it wasn't. i just passed out after we ate lunch without intention. I needed it, obviously, but it wasn't a conscious decision.
