Basically this:

Whole30 (of which I am already on day 4) and reading It Starts With Food

Things to do instead of sitting on the couch all day like I do every summer (thinking of a list kind of like @juliebarkley's random encounters from her last challenge, I'm still trying to come up with a list of things)

Practice clarinet again (I've been over a month off and I need to get my chips back in shape for ClarinetFest)

Bible reading (because Lord knows I don't do that enough)

 

Planned things:

Optometrist appointment

Landmark self expression and leadership program and the project associated with that

Churching, especially since Landmark is keeping me from being able to attend Young Adults group. 

Finally paint my room! And put up shelves!

Dogsitting

Put together a "dream board" to put up in a very prominent place to remind myself of what I want my life to be and then maybe work toward it (would contain pictures mostly)

N - Leftover butternut squash soup (butternut squash, honeycrisp apple, gala apple, onion, homemade chicken stock, ground ginger, cinnamon, sea salt).

A - Turkey patty cooked in EVOO, sea salt, and garlic powder.  Salad (spring greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, turkey sandwich meat) with homemade salad dressing. Not nearly enough calories though.

E - Baked sweet potato, cauliflower, sirloin I think.

N - Leg of lamb (EVOO, garlic powder, sea salt). Orange.

E - Asian chicken soup (homemade chicken stock, vegetables incl shiitake mushrooms, chicken, sesame oil)

M - Smoothie (cherries, grapes, orange), turkey patty (garlic powder, sea salt, fancy shmancy EVOO).

N - Communion (religious - doesn't count as cheat). Seasons 52 - cedar plank salmon (asparagus, golden beets, carrots, dill mustard sauce, substituted potatoes for more veggies).

E - Leftover soup (see 7) with coconut aminos

M - Turkey patty cooked in EVOO/salt/garlic powder. Smoothie (cherries, mango, grapes, orange).

N - I don't remember but if I did eat Lucy it was really small. Or curry. Actually I think it was sweet potato curry (see 4).

E - Olive Garden - herb grilled salmon and broccoli (I checked - it was not cooked in butter!) My parents tortured me with breadsticks but I was good.

A - UK (acronym) Barbeque: Angus beef brisket, collard greens.

M - turkey patty, smoothie (cherries, grapes, pineapple, orange) 

A - Turkey burger (turkey patty, Portobello mushroom cap, tomato, lettuce, dijon mustard (w/o sugar, I checked lol)). Pink lady apple.

 

7/7 (13/4)

M - turkey patty, smoothie (cherries, orange, pineapple)

E - Pork chop (EVOO, fresh rosemary, minced garlic, sea salt, black pepper). Green beans. Strawberries (balsamic vinegar (I checked first for sugar), evoo, rosemary).  The sauce and the strawberries might actually make pork chops worth it. :D

 

7/8 (14/5)

M - smoothie (orange, apple, cherries)

M - leftover curry (water chestnuts, chicken, Thai curry paste, etc)

E - communion items

E - Red Lobster: wood grilled grouper with double broccoli and grilled squash. The squash may have been topped with butter, I'm not sure.

N - turkey patty

E - leftover rosemary pork chop with strawberry and balsamic dressing topping.

M - beef patty cooked in EVOO. Smoothie (navel orange, valencia orange, pineapple, frozen blueberries, frozen cherries, coconut milk)

E - Pan fried pork chop, carrots, mashed cauliflower, all cooked with coconut oil and seasoned with sea salt and black pepper.

 

7/11 (17/8)

N - beef patty cooked in EVOO. Smoothie (valencia orange, pineapple, cantaloupe, frozen blueberries, frozen cherries, coconut milk)

E - baked chicken thigh, broccoli

 

7/12 (18/9)

M - turkey patty.  Smoothie (valencia orange, pineapple, frozen cherries)

E - Steak over spring greens with sauteed red onions and portabella mushrooms with a balsamic sauce (EVOO), coconut oil, sea salt, black pepper.

 

7/13 (19/0)

M - leftovers (see 13)

A - Olive Garden herb grilled salmon with broccoli (found out has butter and parm on top), salad (picked out the croutons, denied cheese, no breadsticks but the dressing probably had seed oils and sugar in it). Had some kind of gastrointestinal reaction to it but it went away as quickly as it came without my normal method of making it go away... not sure what that was about.

M - beef patty, smoothie (orange pineapple cherries peaches)

E - stir fry (beef, broccoli, red onion, ginger root, crushed red pepper flakes, black pepper, sesame oil (which happened to have canola oil in it), coconut oil, coconut aminos, salt)

A - leftover stir fry (see 7/14)

M - turkey patty (HarvestLand), smoothie

A - homemade Tom Kha Ga soup (homemade chicken stock, coconut milk, lemon juice, red pepper flakes, grated ginger, salt, straw mushrooms)

E - broccoli and sweet potato

M - 2 turkey patties, smoothie (cherries, pineapple, orange, peach, raspberries)

E - round steak with chimichurri (homemade) and charred veggies (zucchini, carrots, red bell pepper)

M - turkey patty cooked in coconut oil, smoothie (pineapple, cherries, blueberries, raspberries, orange)

E - mashed root vegetables (carrot, turnip, sweet potato, fresh basil, chicken stock, coconut oil, salt and pepper) with sliced round steak and fresh basil ribbons on top.

M - turkey patty cooked in EVOO, smoothie (see 7/18)

A - Beach House: grilled yellowtail snapper, vegetables (green beans, asparagus, red bell pepper, probably squash, mushroom). It's likely that either the snapper struggled when it was being killed or there was something in the food that I was allergic to because I started having major nasal allergy symptoms during and after this meal.

E - garlic sauteed leeks with oven roasted sockeye salmon

M - reheated sweet potato, fruit smoothie (cherries, peaches, pineapple, orange, raspberries)

A - salad (baby spinach, pan sauteed chicken (EVOO, salt, black pepper), avocado, strawberries, sliced almonds, dressing (EVOO, balsamic vinegar, dijon mustard, salt, pepper))

E - snacking on sliced almonds because those things are freaking addictive

M - Turkey patty probably but I actually don't remember what I ate. But it was probably a turkey patty and a smoothie

Stomach is bothering me. I'm not sure if this is due to communion (it's so little and I've never ever had a reaction to communion items) or lunch (I thought the salmon would be Whole30 compliant but maybe it wasn't).

Task list is moot.

Bedroom is 98% done. I just have to hang up a couple of accessories. Then there's the issue of my closet...

 

The stomach ache on Sunday lasted beyond what it usually takes to alleviate it, but it went away so I'm happy. Though I still don't know why I reacted that way.

Clearly it was my body telling me I should have had Maui tuna crunch salad, but that's not Whole30 because the dressing has sugar and it has crunchy things that probably have gluten. Sad!

On that note, why on Earth did I only start craving junk after I started my Whole30? It's not like I was eating a lot of junk before I started.

I should rewrite my challenge title to be "Snickie wonders what her life would be like if she didn't read so much fanfiction!!!" and I just completely give up all fandoms for a month despite the onslaught of Boruto and Steven Universe spoilers that will occur during that time and all the plot bunnies. Also I'd use a timer such that I am not allowed to sit still on the couch for more than 25 minutes at a time and I have to get up for no less than 5 minutes at a time.  That's one pomodoro or one episode of Boruto or two episodes of Steven Universe. Also I'm not supposed to stare at technology for longer than that in one sitting anyway.

 

Sigh.

I've done the Whole 30 before, and probably will do so again in a couple of months.  It's a great program and the craving for junk foods will fade soon.  I also really like the dream board idea, I've been meaning to do one of those.  Have you started building yours?

Well this is my third (I think) Whole30 and I've had cravings every time LOL. But it's getting better! I'm only sort of tempted by the plantain chips sitting by my bed. :D Getting bored of steaks though.

 

Haven't started the dream board but I did finish my room so that no longer needs a spot on my wall.

So as it turns out, my mother was wrong, and not only is the herb grilled salmon at Olive Garden cooked in butter, but it also has parmesan in the broccoli. I'm already here so I'm going to order it anyway but this means

 

Day Zero.

 

Le sigh

 

At least the breadstick cravings are diminished. I'm not about to ruin that.

Oh I made the list. I just haven't been following it at all.

 

My mom is telling me to consider it fine (which goes against the nutritional reset part of the Whole30). It doesn't help that the sesame oil I put in my stir fry last night was mixed with canola oil which is also against Whole30.

But I'm tired of being super strict about my food. I want to eat my plantain chips (fried in soybean oil) dangit!

I had a dream last night where somebody was feeding us for whatever reason, and they brought me a Sprinkle donut, which is my favorite. And it was eat the donut or eat nothing. so I ate the donut and it was delicious.

In defense of the task list, though, we have a new vacuum so cleaning is now a less arduous task.

I have no defense for the book. I just like my computer more. :c

 

My mother brought up the suggestion of my going to spend a month or two with my grandparents to change the scenery and learn to appreciate them and maybe find a husband learn to be a better housewife clear my head.  It's funny, less than thirty minutes into the conversation I was using future tense ("I will") instead of conditional tense ("I would").  It's weird.  And it breathed life into me even though it drives me nuts to be with my grandparents for longer than a few hours at a time.  Of course, now that it's had time to flush through my system I'm back to being a dead beat just like I am every summer.  The only good thing coming out of this so far is my expanded repertoire of recipes and junk.

I woke up today with no energy, no desire to do anything, everything seemed too hard or too much like work. I picked the lowest-energy thing that I could do to actually *do* something (clipping some articles from a stack of magazines. I literally did it lying in the middle of the floor. But, by the time I was done, I had energy to do more stuff! Do you have something super easy that you can do to get yourself going when you feel like you're going all deadbeat? Like opening mail or something else really easy?

My mom deals with all the mail. I never get anything in the mail so I don't bother. And it's not that I can't do anything, it's that I don't want to do things. Like it doesn't actually take that much energy to change the cat box, and it's still a pain and I don't want to do it.

I think the whole making dinner every night and then doing dishes afterwards thing is actually very helpful though. I make jokes that I'm learning how to be a better housewife without the whole being married part, but I really am learning how to be a functional human in my own house (even though I still prefer to sit in front of my laptop watching funny cat videos on YouTube or whatever). Now if only I could get over the cleaning hump like I've gotten over the cooking hump LOL

So I was offered a gig to human sit the father of my parents friend from our small group. He just turned 88 and was an anesthetist way back in the day and has all sorts of interesting stories about that. Of course being 88 means lots of physical problems such as not being able to see or hear well and breathing problems. But what most concerns my mother at this point is his attitude towards me. Yes, he's very nice, very cordial, and a little prone to making comments that would have been okay 30 years ago but not now. He's a widower and he's from a touchy-feely era. So we were at their house for his birthday today he wanted to talk and charm me and whatnot. I'm one of the least touchy-feely people I know (except when it comes to my cats whom I happily cuddle against their wills) and if I say yes, I subject myself to this type of discomfort. There's of course nothing lewd about it but... You know.
