Plazmah embraces being multi-faceted

This challenge starts the day I get back from vacation. I'll be spending a week in Lisbon, doing a lot of walking and eating no doubt. Once I get back, it's back to the hard knock life for me. By which I mean it's going to be time to get back on the trying-to-conceive train again, this time with a new OBGYN and fertility specialist aiding me. So! I anticipate a lot of feeling shitty and anxious about my failure of a body + missing a lot of work... but I'm determined not to let that happen.

Once I stopped being pregnant, I felt goddamn fantastic actually. I feel whole and alive and dynamic right now, so I want to remind myself when times get tough that I’m fine just the way I am and have SO MUCH to offer even though my ovaries are fucked up. So the mission is: be a whole human being. Don’t let this one thing (pregnancy) become my entire life, even though there are SOME people *coughmyparentscough* who excel at reducing my world to a single issue.

How I plan on keeping myself whole:

  • Writing writing writing. I’m actually going to expand my repertoire this challenge and alternate between writing my novel and writing fanfic.
  • Do all the DIY projects... first up is revamping this old bulletin board I have to make it look more shabby chic (matching the theme of our basement).
  • Continue down that road of better nutrition; healthy snacks, avoid carbs when possible, small eating window.
  • Continue running with SIL, but also look into working out again... just up the road from me there's a new gym called Train Like Heroes (sound familiar??) where they do HIIT and OCR, sounds interesting. I know it would be simpler to love my body and I mostly do but UGH my belly and butt are so sad , and I do think losing a little weight would help some health issues I'm having. FUCK THAT "TTC REQUIRES CALORIES" BS.
  • Less dicking around on my phone, more time spent with husband/friends doing social things.
  • Learning! I need to learn more things! My current tactic: library books about quantum physics and astronomy.

That's the plan, who knows if I'll stick to it. Not really going to track with metrics or stats, I will just need a lot of encouragement and positive vibes from Team Me and the NF crew. :)

But before any of that, 2 more days til I start my vacation! :DDD

I think your attitude is amazing. :)

You're an awesome and fantastic person regardless of your fertility status, and it sounds like you're rocking exactly the right mindset!

Enjoy your vacation, have an amazing time. And then come home and enjoy/do/rock it some more!

It's hard when a major dream and want is difficult. But being exactly who you want to be and enjoying your life as it is while you keep on trying is the perfect way to go. Many of us have been there (with less grace than you're showing).

We'll all be here supporting your challenge! Have a great time. :)

@RevQu @Casbin @Sylvaa Thanks you all so much for all the encouragement! I hope things go well down the line, but I’m not going to sweat it yet.

Seven more hours until I am freeeeeeee.

Lisbon was amazing! It was such a good trip! Unfortunately our vacation was bookended by UNMITIGATED BULLSHIT.

To start, we showed up at the airport and they denied my husband boarding because his passport needed to be valid 3 months past the day we were leaving Portugal. It was off by 6 days. We had rebook our flight two days later (for an exorbitant fee), then get an emergency passport renewal (for an exorbitant fee). When it was finally time to leave, the flight was delayed by 1.5 hours. Our flight home at the end was also delayed, by 2 hours.

On the bright side, the trip itself was fantastic, albeit too short. So many churches! So many viewpoints! So much grilled octopus and sardine! So much vinho verde! I will share pics at some point!

I’m going to consider today the first real day of my challenge, as Sunday was spent stuck at the airport or flying over the Atlantic. Monday was an unpack/recover from jetlag day. Today I’m finally back at work and back to real life. Nutrition-wise not doing so well (lunch at work was catered due to bigwigs visiting) but I’ve been running around doing pedestrian management all afternoon in the hot as ass sun, hella calories being burned.

Tonight, I try making chicken cacciatore for the first time! There’s also a ton of chores I need to do, but I am going to try to squeeze in some writing in between, possibly of the fanfiction variety.

Actually when I think about it, I didn’t eat too badly. Coffee in the morning and yogurt for a morning snack. Lunch was pasta salad and half a roast beef wrap. Afternoon snacks were a banana, an apple, and a mini chocolate fudge cupcake. Dinner was chicken cacciatore, which took WAY longer to make than I thought and turned out way more liquidy than the recipe showed. Maybe I didn’t boil off enough of the white wine, not sure. Next time, I’m going to reduce the amount of wine and sub with chicken stock.

Didn’t get to writing… as usual I fell prey to the sweet siren call of YouTube. I really need to stop wasting so much time on my phone. Any suggestions?

I know you can get productivity helpers for Firefox and chrome, I wonder if there is an app that can be scheduled to prevent you from wasting time? I'm sure there is something out there.
Maybe one of these would work? https://www.inc.com/jeremy-goldman/6-apps-to-stop-your-smartphone-addiction.html

I think Forest might be an interesting option for this?

It's a pain to get to a point were you will have longer timers then 10 min.

But it's a fun engaging option to stop phubbing.

I'm sorry you had so many troubles at the airport but hope the vacation isn't overshadowed!

Thanks Casbin! It wasn't, the vacation was delightful, just wish I'd had those two extra days we lost getting our documents in order.

I have been doing not so well with the intermittent fasting. Back to work with loads of delicious puff pastries around me at 9am? Bad news. Willpower is at an all time low, blah. Chugging coffee instead to keep the hunger at bay.

Ate well otherwise. Lunch was homemade chicken cacciatore. Snacks were pastries, yogurt, and these organic dark chocolate coconut bites I picked up a couple weeks ago. Dinner was plain ole pasta with marinara, because I was lazy and willing to induce a carb-fest for the sake of convenience. Maybe I should switch to a healthier pasta? Whole wheat? I have a spiralizer and I've made zucchini pasta before but it was Work to spiralize and I tend to lose veggies to rot so... eh. Dry pasta is convenient.

No writing but I got a ton of chores knocked off my to-do list. Made plans to meet with a friend for dinner on Friday. Then meeting with husband to watch the new Spiderman movie.

I downloaded an app onto my phone that tracks how long I use it and what apps I use it for the most, plus how many times I unlock it. I already feel like just knowing I'm tracked is curbing my behaviour! Next step: always keep a book handy. I go to my phone because I'm bored mostly, having something to read nearby may mitigate that.

I’m having a hard time even remembering what happened yesterday, it was such a boring & uneventful day. Still couldn’t resist a mini-pastry or two early in the morning. Mostly ate healthy aside from someone bringing brownies into work.

Yesterday I finally started feeling sore from *not* exercising/moving enough, a big change after my very active vacation. I really wish I had a place to go for fitness things, but I find it hard to join gyms or studios unless the people are welcoming and friendly. Instead, most of these places are cliquey and intimidating. *sadface*

Wasted a lot of time on the internet last night. Desperately need several books to occupy my mind.

So I do get this! But I think you might be pleasantly surprised!

I was so nervous to join the gym I did because so many people were in ridiculously good shape and I am lumpy. And ALL the coaches look like they should be fitness models. But I am so glad I did! Those intimidating people have been some of the nicest people I've met! Seriously!

It totally feels like everyone is watching and judging (and I think a lot of the exercise fails on the internet don't help!). But that's not the case. People are either so focused on their own workout that they don't even realize anyone else is there OR they are just excited to see someone else drink the kool-aid (general statement - lifters are totally like this too!).

Maybe it’s just bad luck, plus my own anti-social temperament, to blame. I’ve been to 2 gyms in the area to see if they interested me. One had really friendly workers but in a “let me sell you shit” kind of way while the patrons were all tightly-knit mom groups. The other gym had more young people but both patrons and workers were kind of snooty and didn’t seem interested in welcoming me there. I felt like an interloper.

I don’t feel judged when I go into these places, just invisible and ignored. Maybe the new OC place down the road will be different… just have to work up the courage to visit it.

Friday was... interesting. Shit was all kinds of fucked up at work, so I was doing a lot of running around dealing with that. Then in the evening had dinner with friends/movie with husband.

Saturday got a lot of yard work done in the hot weather, felt kinda dizzy while I was outside but kept going. Also, finally went to the library to pick up 3 books! One I read 2 chapters and gave up, the second is great so far.

Sunday I woke up feeling drained and like I was coming down with a cold, but by about 5pm (after putting up a fireplace and some paintings in our basement) I felt fine again! Except it looks like I got my TOM? I'm not sure though? Post-2nd-miscarriage my body has gone to the other extreme and my periods are so light + I have no PMS symptoms, it's weird.

Today: trying to get back to activity (running with SIL) after work.

I've been seeing more chickpea and bean-based pasta around lately, so that might be worth looking into? It's still regular dry pasta, but made with bean-based flours so it has more protein in it.

I’ve never heard of this, thanks for the heads up! Except I do fear that legume-based pasta will turn my husband into a stink-bomb :P

I found a chickpea pasta at Costco that I liked, and I didn't notice any issues with flatulence. However, the pasta itself is extremely flavorless. Needed way more salt than I was expecting.

According to the glycemic index people, for a starchy carb pasta has a uniquely low GI. (Aka it doesn't cause a huge rush of sugar in your bloodstream.) I usually don't worry too much about it as long as I'm eating in moderation.

That's good to know. A BBOC (big bowl of carbs) isn't an every day occurrence for me, so I should be okay then.

(Aside: I am mildly alarmed that it’s already the latter end of July. SLOW DOWN, SUMMER!)

Was relatively good about keeping my eating window as short as possible, didn’t eat til 10am and stopped at 8:30pm. Snacks and meals were mostly healthy, but I did munch on some sausage pastries as work. Went for an excellent run in the afternoon; it was humid as hell so me and SIL sweated a bunch.

Working on some fanfic writing, starting to put a bunch of discrete scenes into something that makes sense, like a “chapter #1”. My brain/mind is ambitious but I don’t know how far I’ll be able to take this, realistically. Time is in short supply.

Tonight, I cook dinner! Probably a "dump & bake" chicken fajita quinoa casserole.

"Don't be afraid of one-shots" is the advice I always give to my ambitious fanfic writing friend who wants to turn every little amusing scene she thinks of into an ambitious multi-chapter saga. If all you have is a scene, just write the scene.

As for me, I need the "don't be afraid to be ambitious" advice... the one-shot queen over here lol. Best of luck!

LOL it me. I just came up with the most mind-blowing backstory/sequel and my brain won't let go. I love ambitious saga fanfic :D
