RedStone's Chill Leftorium Drive By

So I finally got checked out by the orthopedic surgeon and the results are tendonitis in the right bicep and rotator cuff, sciatica in the right leg, and yes, it seems that my right elbow is just deeply bruised - they found no chips or fractures.

:D AND I AM FUCKING THRILLED :D

No tears, no breaks, just physical therapy, and some meds for < a week.

So the tendonitis, I feel pretty confident about what it's from - probably has origins with my arms-every-day program starting back after the comp in Feb. It's compounded over the last few months since starting work - I crunched the numbers the other day and saw that I went from sitting and studying all day & working out a modest 3-5X per week for 30 - 90 mins, to being on my feet an average of 10 hours per day, with an average of 4 hours of training per day, not including my own work outs. :o

It's true that training other people isn't as intensive, but it's still a lot, and certain movements are just recurring, not to mention the set up and take downs. I've been observing myself and since I'm right handed, tend to do most of those things... with my right hand.

ENTER THE LEFTORIUM.

Yup. Time to be more ambidextrous, get old leftie involved in helping out and picking up the slack.

Okay, one explanation down. So why the drive by then? Well... since I've been involved with NF I've had an extremely easy and open schedule. Tons of time to respond to everyone, read many many threads, connect on chat etc. This is no longer my life. I have kind of a compulsive issue with doing things the same way across the board from start to finish... it's irksome if I come roaring out of the gate and don't cross the finish line the same way. I thought about ditching the forums all together, but I like it here, and I like all of you. I just have to chill and be ok with not posting 5X a day, or even everyday, and being ok with catching up on people's threads as I can.

Lastly... the CHILL. Work offers a weird kind of stress. I love the environment, the people are great*, and the work is awesome. But it's physically, and sometimes mentally exhausting. I'm better, zombie brain wise, now that I'm eating more*, but instead of being mentally foggy, I'm just plain physically exhausted. There's really no question that this leads to injury and not wanting to train on my own. I haven't really been seeing Lou much, since I can't do the kind of work I'm used to at TSA... and I kind of have this sensation that if I'm not in beast mode, why am I there? But Lou has been a mentor in otherwise, and being there and staying connected makes me better at life. He insists I don't need to be beast mode when I'm there, and the last few weeks he just says I should do whatever I want, though he will give me specific work if I ask him. I've only been going once a week. I will be increasing that to 2.

I also can make my life MUCH easier and less stressful by setting aside an hour or 2 a week to do all my client's programming and updates so I'm not stressed doing it every night for the next day. My calendar is my life now, I will schedule a time for doing this task every week.

i7pqxxgU0i40z6PBYg0bMwMc00c=.gif

SO. Let's break this down simple and clear.

DRIVE BY LEFTORIUM

1X Make Leftie totem (bracelets to wear which remind me to use my left hand more often

2X per week: Check in here (Making this easy. Maybe I'll do more... maybe not. It's ok either way.)

3X per week: sciatica exercises (I'll be doing PT for my arm, but they only want to do one thing at a time and the sciatica isn't that bad)

CHILL

1X per week: Meal prep Sunday (Got a new cookbook! I'll try at least 1 recipe this challenge)

1X per week: Schedule time/s to program clients for the week

2X per week: Go to TSA and see Lou

In an attempt to encourage adherence from a difficult client, I am making this super easy with easy to reach incentives...

For every week that I do all these things, I get to go down to the cute shop in town (@elvenengineer knows the one!) and get myself something, like a patch for my backpack, that cool mug I've had my eye on, stickers, whatever.

HAPPY DOUBLE ZERO WEEK NERDS!

Some extras for ya'll.

Spoiler

So yeah, I'm digging my work place and coworkers and clients, but there are always a few issues. The coworker that does nothing and is so so entitled. The member that touched me inappropriately and I had to file a formal complain. But truly, I've already made an IRL friend that we've been hanging out with off hours, and management got my back LIKE CRAZY over the incident. Member is on strict watch and will be removed if needs be.

Food. I am eating a LOT. Like... A LOT. I ran my numbers the other day and saw I'm up in the 1800-2200cals per day range. I have gained several pounds. I am not happy about the gaining. I am happy about the energy. I miss my sculpted stomach, but I know that this is what must hapen now. I am being patient, but the scale and tape measure are back out. I seem to be maintaining at the 110-112# mark. I have not clocked in at >110# in over a year... and I am up an inch in the thickest part of my belly... but it's still down 1.5" from last year at 107#. I am continuing to eat, and not track. (That 2000k tracking last week triggered a full on episode of the purging variety. Counterproductive and unacceptable.) I am not unhappy about the way I look, and am obviously gaining muscle. I will keep on keeping on, and focus on quality of food and macro timing, now that I'm more comfortable with the routine and schedule. I also got a new bag for work with a freezer pocket. It is full of food all the time LOL.

I've been there before. Lead to me respawning after half a year or so. Can't go crazy on the forums all the time. But it's not the same running a chalenge, when you don't have a thread. Take your time. If it helps just stay with your own thread for now and jump into other threads, when you have some left over time. For example I usually check the forums, when I'm sitting on the train or when my bf watches videos on youtube and I get bored or something. Just don't stress yourself over it. This is someposed to be a help full tool not a burden and your don't have to feel responsability or something. It's not your damn job to have a look at each and every thread. We enjoy having you here but only if you enjoy being here.

Hallo!!! I am so glad to see your thread, I have been keeping an eye out for you! Super super super glad the injuries aren't breaks/tears. I put off getting my shoulder scanned for ages out of the same fear and was so relieved when it was "just" a stretched rotator cuff, so I feel your feels. YEAH!

The left handed ability increase is super interesting, and I am glad to see you'll be adjusting your posting schedule to match mine (LOL) - maybe I'll keep up here for once!!!

You know, I didn't really think about it, but it's kind of like a few times I had injuries and couldn't use my right hand, but was in art school. I did an entire painting residency with my left hand and it was awesome... I did some of my best work then. This will be wacky indeed LOL :P Here's to the sometimes trying and staying connected the best we can the way that works for us!! :D

Right? Like we are avoiding dealing with it, but also by doing that kind of classifying it as "unfixable" anyway. I wish I could say I'd learned my lesson!

That is SO cool! I guess I've never thought about it being possible to switch to ambidextrous, but of course it is. SO COOL. Could run a Jaime Lannister themed challenge.

You're handling these transitions like a champ friend. Which, doesn't always look like an unbroken string of win - lots of ups and downs and handling things amazingly. I'm sorry about that client. Really not okay.

<3

It's okay, it was was a member of the club, not a personal client, which does make it a teeny bit easier. The club has a very firm "no touching" policy, and management was seriously backing me the second they heard. Like yo. I felt backed. I know how to handle myself with creeps, but doing it diplomatically, and within the scope of hospitality... that's a hairy spot. Knowing that corp thinks it's a problem, and having the right rhetoric to use is a big empowerment. I was rattled for 10 minutes.... but smiling again since :D

I totally missed the spoiler'd issues at your work.

I'm glad corp has your back.  That's a good feeling that a lot of employees do not get to experience.

Regarding your entitled worker, I've found the best way to deal with them is to outperform them.  Crush them with your productivity.  It won't make them stop complaining but it'll let you get some enjoyment out of it.

IKR? And things I keep hearing from other people suggest the same. I feel very good about the people I work for, and motivated by them. It's a good group :D And I feel lucky.

LMAO outperforming is easy since he doesn't do anything. He was one of those floor trainers with intent to become a personal trainer, but the second he saw how much work goes into getting certified that was a big NOPE. Now he uses it as an excuse not to do the menial tasks he was hired for. It's fine, I was annoyed at first but it's just the kind of industry where people like that come through... there's a LOT of turnover, and a lot of different reasons.

8 Strand fishtail braid... red + black = death in my kung fu community... death to my tendons if I use them! Tied to my right wrist because I NEVER wear bracelets on that side and I will absolutely be bugged by it. Also, it kinda hurt to make :P

Hi! I can sympathize on the not-being-able-to-keep-up-with-challenges front... sorry it's taken me so long to get to one of your challenges since I've re-appeared!

Having compassion for yourself when your body isn't cooperating is hard - you're handling that with a lot of grace.

I missed the job switch - are you a personal trainer (powerlifting coach?) now?

Yeah! I'm working across the board with populations, teen athletes to seniors and everything in between. Most people come to me for some kind of strength training, but there are a few that just want a workout buddy, even just to walk with, and others trying to rehab or alleviate pain. I do have a lifting partners group that I adore, a small cross section of women from 19 - 55 and they are AAAHmazing :D It's written around powerlifting with a little oly mixed into their conditioning. Otherwise I get to do HIIT and kickboxing classes, and have some seniors wanting to do a mind body qigong group for balance and health, and even a request for self defense workshops! Jeez I sound excited... and I guess I am. I really enjoy what I'm doing and excited to keep it going! I just committed to a specialty in orthopedic exercise (good timing lol) and taking a light cert in MFR. Nutrition comes in the fall, assuming I can get a spot in Precision Nutrition's program  :D Can't ever know enough...
