Hello my friends!

So I realised this morning I am looking at a mere 36days to my novice comp, and just 67 until Mr and I 'tie the knot' as it were. Hoooo boy that came up fast! I've been making an effort to be chill about the wedding... but I fear I may have been too chill and translated it over to 'disorganised'. So, in order to avoid any stress that comes from disorganisation I need to get my butt in gear. Trying to keep it simple this go around.

Track those macros: I have a guideline of actual macros, which seems excessively protein-heavy but ok, but basically I'm going back to MFP-ing everything and the foodporn photos. Good stuff in, good stuff out. I'm aiming paleoish, a little grains or dairy will be ok, but I need to not go overboard and I need to report it.

Lift things up,put them down: 4x/week training until the PT says to stop, keep stretching and foam rolling after workouts. Bench, squats, deads, accessories. Git gud.

Kindly do the needful: (the catch-all category)Apply for the permanent Team Leader role, submit the assessment task, get those wedding duckies in a row.

July 1st, a good starting day.

Track those macros: tracked the foods, paleoish for most of the day- exception was rice and soy sauce in the form of sushi, I did not go overboard and ended up coming in 280calories under MFP's suggestion.

Lift things up and put them down: double whammy at the gym- squats and bench... didn't have time for all the accessories.

Sq: 5@50, 4x4@45

BP: 5@30, 4x5@25

100kb swing @16

I took a video of the squats as I'm still not quite getting to depth, I'm stretching out my calves and hip flexors and foam rolling my legs... it's odd because I can easily go way below parallel on bodyweight squats or weighted squats holding a kettlebell (including for paused)... any tips my nerdy friends?

Kindly do the needful: submitted one assessment task. Spent 4 hours with my group taking video for our other video assessment task... I couldn't convince them to do it with as strong a focus on the question as I would have liked... I'm going to have a meeting with the subject coordinator to discuss whether I should drop out of that subject since I became Team Leader after the last day to drop out and am feeling that I really can't give it the attention it needs (especially with a group assessment with 7 members of which I am the only one with English as a first language and so am expected to proofread everything plus I am editing the video to try and wrangle it to fit the marking criteria and the time spent yesterday made me really think that's not going to be possible).

July 2nd an ok day, dealing with the anxiety of the video assessment hanging over my head, but managed it ok, watched some comedy shows on Netflix with Mr and heading to bed early so I can go to the gym in the morning before the meeting. I didn't mention before when I was saying that I had a lot more responsibility now which was stopping me from focussing on class properly, but I looked at it properly today and I'm now looking after 35 staff instead of just myself and I've been requested to give a presentation (not by myself, with 4 others, but still) to the Vice Chansellor of the whole university about our division and where we plan to be in 5years time, much of our future funding requests may refer back to this presentation, so it's super important that I do well... these are not bad things, not at all, but they are things that I'm carrying in my mind which take up mental energy I could otherwise spend on wrangling the assignment to better meet the criteria.

Track those macros: tracked the foods, DnD at our house and I managed to avoid the cake, though I did have some crackers with seeds in them and a tiny bit of crisps- I even measured out a serving of the crisps so I could put them in MFP then decided that was too many so put most of them back... I found and bought a tub of HaloTop icecream which some of the ladies on the academy Facebook have been raving about and had two scoops. I'm quite full, but I'm only at 985/1310 calories (325 under)... pretty sure I'll leave it as a deficit day seeing as I haven't done any gym today.

Omelette, luckily tasted better than it looked

Crackers.

Steak and corn, veg took longer to steam so started eating this while they were still cooking.

(Veg, not pictured- asparagus which took a little longer)

(That's a teaspoon for scale)

Lift things and put them down: rest day. Not sore at all, which makes me feel like maybe I didn't go hard enough yesterday. A bit pleased though because we're doing squats in tomorrow's gym class and then the trainer can have a look at my form in person and maybe give me some pointers to go lower than parallel. Plan for the week is- Monday Squats, Tuesday rest, Wednesday Bench or Deads (depends what the trainer wants to work) Thursday rest, Friday or Saturday Bench or Deads (whatever I didn't do on Wednesday). Will either double up the accessories day on bench day, or go early on Sunday morning to get them in.

Kindly do the needful: cleaned the house (a lil bit) before peeps came over. Need to get more weddingly stuff sorted, ASAP.

July 3rd, a good enough day. Gymmed in the morning, squats again since that was what the group (me and one other dude) were doing this week. Went to work and ran the mini meeting (not a massive fan of the Monday mini meeting, I like keeping everyone up to date, but it does make for a long week), spent much of the day working on the video assessment in between my other work. Stayed back an hour and a half after work to keep working on it. I have almost all of the bits we filmed annotated and made into a video. I think it could be salavagable if I record me talking for the 5mins spare we have and just cram in the answer to the question which got a bit missed. I also asked for and received a day off later in the week to finish this assessment.

Track those macros: was quite under so I allowed some DnD snacks, then I remembered I hadn't added my eggs or tin of tuna from lunch, so wound up at 200ish over. Had eggs and mandarins and

Lift things and put them down: squats day today, much better on the depth. Strangely it was getting down too low and getting stuck that made it easier to get to depth after that- last time I got too low I ended up sitting down on the floor and the trainer had to grab the bar so I didn't drop it. This time I went down into a very deep squat and just... stopped, wasn't going up, wasn't going down, just waited there until the trainer could take the weight. Because that had been what I was a bit afraid of it made it easier to get to depth. 5x5paused squats @40kg, 5x5box squats @40kg. 100KB swings at 16kg.

Kindly do the needful: spoke with the caterers who wrote me up a quote. Spent a massive chunck of time doing my video assessment. Wrote an email to the subject coordinator asking to talk to her about my options for dropping out, she wrote back to say she's on leave but I can see her the day after the assessment is due... I decided to just push on with it, so close to the end now.

I'm glad the squats are sorting themselves out. The video of it looked like maybe you had too much weight, since you were folding forward more than dropping your butt down, but I am definitely not an expert.

I'm sorry people seem to keep piling extra work on you. When you get through it, make sure to protect your free time, you'll need it to fully enjoy all your wedding preparations!! :)

So what are the caterers serving?

I had this happen to be when I took weight lifting back in high school. Now that I think about it, the teacher kind of vanished during class... I had to rely on the more experienced guys, and they didn't always want to help.

But yeah, it's like, I don't want to get stuck, so I don't want to go deep, but I want to get better* so I want to go deep.

*To be honest, high school me just wanted to look cool and badass (without putting in all the work), even if it was way past my ability level. And it didn't help that my ex and my crush were both in my class...

Hiiiya following. That video assessment sounds stressful!! 2 months too your wedding woo!

It is less than ideal, but I hand it in on Thursday, then one more essay for that subject and I'm done... here is a link to what I've done so far...

Once this video assessment is finished and I've finished my application for permanent Team Leader position I should get a bit of the pressure lifted.

Foodie details~ cheese board, pastry rolls (pork and fennel, chickpea and veg), veg(an) spring rolls, fruit platters, soft drinks + tea + coffee. Yuuuum ^_^ its and afternoon tea type deal, we did the sit down meal for the engagement and it was lovely, but we didn't get a chance to really -see- everyone...

Haha, it's not high school, but I wanna look cool and badass too! (I don't mind the work bit though). Thankfully no awkward relationship dramas for me!

4th July, definitely doesn't feel like a Tuesday... feels like at least Thursday... thankfully I have tomorrow off, so I kinda have a tiny midweek weekend. Still planning to go in to work to use the work computer as I only have a teeny tiny laptop at home since Mr accidentally broke the big laptop and we haven't built the desktop yet coz it needs important bits like RAM and a screen and shit... spent aaaaaages on the video and I think I should get it finished to my standards if I spend another 4 hours on it. Which is good, because I want some day off time too. Somehow have to get the group to write a 2pg report about the video, because I really don't want to do that bit as well...

Track those macros: about 300 under. Was 500 under and not really hungry, but that made me under 1,000 in total and that worried me, so I ate a single tortilla wrap and that did the trick. Also had a scoop of the halotop icecream again. Otherwise the most remarkable thing I had was breakfast cooked entirely on the sandwich press at work (not the orange, obviously).

Lift things and put them down: planned rest day.

Kindly do the needful: another 5ish hours editing the video. Wrote a plan of attack for tomorrow's day off, want to tick a bunch of wedding stuff off my to-do list.

COngrats on the more responsibility at work! Awesome start to the challenge.

Thanks on both fronts! Nothing official yet, as I'll still have to apply and interview, but I'm feeling way more comfortable with the role now I've had a bit of time to work in it and the boss asked if I'd put my application in for the permanent position yet, so sounds hopeful.

July 5th, a good day. Took the day off work to do my assessment video and the gorram thing is done now. Showed it to my classmates and told them I wouldn't be writing the two page report as well, they will write it between them and send it to me to proofread. I'll be glad once we hand the bloody thing in tomorrow. Other than that ran some errands and went to the gym. In addition to hitting my squat depth at weight I was also PT member of the month. I had the photo from when I was member of the month in December last year on my phone, so we did the same pose so they can do a funny Facebook post. Look I have a bicep now! (And neck muscles apparently?)

c3fe8ec587534b7cbb304c6d98f54f31.jpg

Track those macros: a weird mix of choices here... started poorly with a dirty chai latte and a choc raspberry muffin (notice the lack of photo- I wolfed it down while they were still making my coffee), lunch was another breakfast on the sand which toaster, had some fruit and a carrot as well as the meat and veg plus a spring roll from the Chinese place in the mall before the gym. Had a plain tortilla for dinner, too sleepy for cooking. About 200under.

ad468dd530d68002ede10c24db906016.jpg

Lift heavy things then put them down: double sesh since the person before me was a no-show and I was already there warming up and stretching, did all back accessories, plus posterior chain, plus squats. Squats I got to depth under 50kg with good form and no repped 55. Very pleased with that improvement. A mix of cues, wrist wraps and warmed up back I think. Video to follow once I get it off trainer.

The bits and bobs: ordered and put depeosit on wedding dress, it was on special due to formal season, so I feel better about having left it so long ^_^ also bought a petticoat and bra that will suit underneath. Then I went to the sports store and bought Mr a lifting belt, myself some wraps and also some tissue massage balls for the both of us to share. Finished the video part of the assessment and all but one thing on my to-do list.

Nice challenge! Good luck with wedding planning. Our wedding was nearly a year ago but I can still remember the seemingly endless to do list. My Google Drive will never be the same again. My one piece of advice would be to focus on the things that are important to the two of you and let everything else happen naturally. No one remembers what colour the napkins were anyway ;)

This is amazing! Getting down to business and getting that deposit out of the way is a big stress relief I'm assuming and then right after wedding bizness is taken care of-fitness stuff!! It was the segway into getting lifting belts and straps from wedding dress stuff that made me smile. You're awesome and well done on your bicep and neck muscles!

True dat! We're reasonably chill people, and I haven't been stressed at all so far (ok, for a second when best lady was going to order her dress from an online shop in China, and then only because I didn't want her to be upset if it didn't come in time). I figure as long as there's something for people to nibble on (even if everything falls through we can always order pizza), we get some cute photos, everything else is a bonus ^_^

I knoooooow... it's ok, best lady is coming on the weekend to help with the succulent potting which should make up for lost time!

July 6th. Today I wrote a speech, practiced once, then presented to the head of the division (my bosses bosses boss- I think, there may be one more layer of bosses). Smashed it. Got a week to polish it, then I have to get up and present it in front of the vice chancellor and the whole division... no pressure.

Track those macros: I didn't track, because how do you even track something like this??

7f32c0ab9b342a200c7f3e9564669eb7.jpg

Other than whatever that might have been I ate pretty well. I also successfully gave Larry brain 2 big fingers up as I walked right past the fairy floss machine and the Vanilla Coke. Had me some strawberries and bought some herbal teas instead, booyah, screw you larry.

Lift heavy: rest, a little sore today, interestingly in the back of my forearms mostly...

Bits and bobs: submitted the video assignment. Spoke briefly to the subject coordinator and organised to email her regarding the group work side of things. While I do feel that the other group members did try their hardest, their hardest is not in the same level as my hardest, andto be brutally honest, I don't want them pulling my average down. Otherwise mostly work and class.

What is that even? (And more importantly, was it good?)

That's one of the things I never liked about group projects. Whenever I was the "proofreader" I'd end up rewriting almost everything. But most of my teachers/professors gave us group assessment's, where you grade the other people in your group (everyone in the group got different grades based on those assessments). Except I didn't want to come across as mean, so it was rarely a fair and accurate assessment... Especially when it's something like "they tried their best, but their best isn't the best work."

You've come on so much in those progress photos, well done! And also well done on all the work and assessment productivity - sounds like you've got a lot on your plate but you're crushing it!

With squats, put some safety bars on! It'll give you the confidence to go deep knowing that the safety bars will stop the bar if you fall, plus which it's just much safer anyway. Also, and this might sound weird, practice failing a rep and bailing out with the bar, so that you know it works and can have the confidence of doing it under weight.

July 9th. 7th and 8th were ok I guess, don't remember anything special about them... today was ok too. Cleaned a bit for people to come over for the game- it always surprises me how grubby the house can get in a week. Game was fine, my mind was elsewhere thinking about the gym and that I need to finish and submit my application for the permanent Team Leader role which is due tomorrow. After everyone left I went to the gym to do bench, my least favourite lift... not sure if I feel vulnerable because it's by far my weakest lift, because the last two times I've had to get a stranger help me get out from under the bar when I got stuck, because I'm laying down or what... but it's my least favourite. Still went and got it done.

Track those macros: didn't track today, but also wasn't stupid either.

Lift heavy things and put them down: bench. 25kg for 5x5. Got stuck under 30, so scaled it back a bit.

Bits and bobs: nothing special today, but yesterday got best lady's dress and some succulents for a combo of table decoration and bonbonerie (or however it's spelled).

What is bonbonberie?

It's like the wedding version of a party bag. At the wedding we attended recently it was a custom teabag for each of us, I'm doing little pots (that had dip in them) with succulents planted in them, with slightly larger pots for the couples.

I'll have to say that I really enjoy doing the lifts that I'm good at. Squats and Deadlifts, but I despise the OHP and the bench and part of that has to be because I suck at them.
