CHALLENGES : Survival Tip #1 - Consumables I'm going out with friends at least three times each week for the rest of the month. I went to Cornwall last week and had so much carbs and sugars (and alcohol). Eating is 9 tenths of the law!!! No refined sugar, no white flour, no cereal Survival Tip #2 - Travel So I'm travelling. Via air, and across land. I'm also going hiking for a couple of these places. I need to be strong to face the rigours of cross-country. While my muscles have developed from compulsory cycling and walking everyday, I want to improve my upper arm strength and cardio. C25K every week and bodyweight/yoga for the rest of the time. 5 min + workout. Survival Tip #3 - Paperwork Apparently, paperwork is a crucial part of adulthood. While I don't like it, I need to get down and do it. Booking travel insurance, ensuring all my identity documents are in order, that sort of thing. Get rid of my to-do list Survival Tip #4 - Team up Same goal as last time, because NF is important, and I want to be here to support other people Post on NF once a week Survival Tip #5 - Humanity I signed up for CampNaNo, and I'm behind because I was in Cornwall and I need to catch up. I have a new life goal. To write in every area of the Dewey Decimal System. Isaac Asimov bagged 9 out of 10, but I'll get it. And to do that, I need to write my first book. They managed to persuade me to read out one of my poems for the open mic section. I got squeezed in at the end, but it was amazing to perform infront of 50+ people. Most of the poems were absolutely amazing, and it 100% inspired me to continue writing, and about a whole new range of topics as well. I tend to make paintings or personalised notebooks for people, but over the next two weeks I need to make 5 paintings and 2 notebooks. Sigh. But today, I managed to get the texture base layer on all the paintings and do the book-block for one of the books (it's going to be a music manuscript book for a friend who has roughly four Grade 8's?). So progress, but I haven't written much today. Went to ParkRun this morning but I did Day 2 of C25K Zombies, so walk/ran for about 40 minutes. Then walked home (about 20 minutes) Then discovered that I didn't have the key. Writing 2k a day is unsustainable and means I am going to bed too late. New test : Write 1k everyday. This is something I have been achieving so far without too much difficulty. I can write this book over 2 months. Honestly, I don't know if I could write 500 words without some sort of deadline or reason. As it is, I am about 3 months behind on writing a "OMG your 18, this is what I want to tell you letter" for my nephews first birthday partially due to homework and partially due to writers block. The fact you are getting something accomplished and are realizing that the traveling could mess up your plans, may be good reasons for the adjustment. So uh... But no one had to pick you up on the side of the road, so you still got it done. I design my chores to all be done in 5 minute (or so I tell myself) incriments since I can usually find 5 minutes, but I still have the ... "Oh this will take 3 minute" problem and then it piles up to where it will take an hour. I know someone (and I can't remember if it is @Bookish Badger or not) is doing a "Do something that takes 2 minutes" challenge this time around. I know there was a challenge called the one hour to-do or something, where you assigned an hour and you opened the to-do list of all the stuff you've been putting off for ages, and then you spent that hour only on ticking those off. Breakfast always seems to involve cereal or sugar or other unhealthy stuff - and I remember that I used to do Intermittent Fasting. This is something I am going to get back into. Between 11am and 7pm, I will eat. In the morning, I will have a mug of honey lemon tea and cold water. (It used to be a banana smoothie) During the feeding window, I am going to experiment with two main meals & snacks, with dinner & snacks, and with two main meals & tea. Eating dinner is a family event, and not something I want to give up on, but I tend to eat lunch alone, so I can mess around with that. Snack options, I keep Belvita protein crackers around but they can have a bit of sugar in them (I allow them for breakfast mostly). I also try and keep some dried fruit in the house. You could also go with pre-packed bags of veggies for snacking. Cottage cheese might be a good choice too. It's calorically dense. Fresh fruit is fantastic. I love grapes, apples, and clementines, but whatever your favorite is will do. Right now stone fruits are in season so I'm eating a lot of nectarines. Half an avocado (with salt?) makes a great snack. Cucumber or bell pepper spears; carrot sticks; broccoli florets; celery. All can be munched on as-is or dipped in hummus (with celery I see more people going toward peanut butter). I'm a huge fan of olives, I get the pimento-stuffed ones in the glass jar at the grocery store and just dish out a few and chomp on those. Delish. Meat things: Salami slices om nom nom (or ham!) Turkey slices spread with hummus and rolled into logs (this might take some experimenting with different types of hummus and turkey; I've found some combinations are amazing and some are truly disgusting, not sure why) I don't eat jerky anymore because it's nearly impossible to find any that isn't packed with sugar where I live, but I love this biltong. I think I heard Spezzy pre-cooks chicken breast, cuts it up into bite-size bits, and snacks on those. Haven't tried it but it could work. Seeds and nuts: Literally anything. I'm a big fan of pepitas for seeds (pumpkin seeds, but not the big flat white ones that come out of your jack-o-lantern) For nuts I usually default to cashews or pistachios, but of course almonds and walnuts are fantastic, too (plus like every other nut out there) Peanuts if you're not paleo Also nut butters -- a spoonful on its own makes for a delicious snack Other things: Cheese! (you knew it was coming) I just slice off a few pieces and eat them. No vehicle needed. Whatever cheese you like is probably fine, although if you're concerned you can check out its macro breakdown online. Liverwurst/pate if you like it. There's a pistachio liverwurst at my grocery store that would probably be a problem food for me if I allowed myself to buy it more than two or three times a year, but it's sooooo good. Hard boiled eggs! Make ahead, then grab and go. Accctually, people don't seem to know this but you can also make poached eggs in advance. Once they're cooked, transfer immediately to an ice bath, then store floating in water in a container in the fridge. To reheat, just put them in hot water for a few minutes, then you're good to go! 3 Quote Link to comment

I'm in love with the Clif Builders protein bars right now (their non-whey protein bars). Fresh fruit sometimes, but more often I'll make a protein shake with frozen fruit. Last year I made my own trail mix. It had unsalted peanuts, raw cashews, raw pepitas, currants, and homemade granola. But it's pretty calorie dense, so you have to watch serving size. I sometimes buy snack packs that have cheese, nuts, and dried fruit. Or sometimes I'll buy cheese sticks and eat one with a handful of nuts or seeds. If I need a larger snack I'll make a small peanut butter & jelly sandwich (normally on a English muffin). 3 Quote Current Challenge: Zeroh, stick to the routine! Link to comment

Though the turkey hummus log rolls sounds amazing! So I tried dinner with snacking yesterday and quickly realised that I tend to overeat on non portion controlled foods. And I had nuts or fruit - which can be a lot of fat. However, i did discover a new favourite snack : crackers, smashed boiled egg, smashed avocado, a slice of cheese, and a slice of salami.
