When you guys are really hot and sweaty and are playing games with contact, do you like... slip and slide off of each other's skin? Haha.

So sorry you had bad nightmares last night. :(

(1) thankfully this is an evasive art, so we don't make contact much.

(2) but yes. Yesterday we were doing a demonstration for Old Korean Lady, and the bottom of my foot hut his forearm, I was hopping on my other foot trying to dry off my kicking foot on my shorts before I put it down so I wouldn't slip and die, or leave a schmear to slip and die on later.

(2.5) also, G sweats puddles, so if you step in them you can slip and die.

Also, games typically start with a handshake, but in summer we pretty much skip that and only fist bump, because ew. (And sweaty palm + cartwheeling means certain death)

... Capoeira in the summer is not only gross but also extra dangerous!

your art is beautiful!

and capoeira sounds SO fun. thank you for describing it.

we have some puddle sweaters at our dojo too. like, when we're done using the bags it looks like it's been raining inside from the marks on the floor. luckly we practice on those foam interlocking panels, so less chance of death by slipping.

And sometimes, Zumbi will refuse to mop up, saying that it's good training. They crazy.

Sorry to hear that you're going through such a rough patch, but I hope it gets better. Um also, where you live? I might accidentally be relatively close to you, depending (due to a "business trip").

Actually liquid chalk on the feet could potentially work!

I live southeast iowa, where everything is "relatively" close because nothing is actually close :P Which mini-metropolis are you visiting? ^_^

I can verify - which is why husband and I drove 2 hours last night for a date to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (and have dinner - an actual dinner and a movie date!).... a date that took 8 hours because of travel time... because of Iowa. :P

GUYS. Today in class we did handstand practice. I asked Girafa to spot me so I could work on figuring out vertical, and I was able to figure out how to lift one of my hands to trigger a bail to the side. YESS. THEN, he had me do the kick ups in front of a crash mat so I could retrain my brain that overkicking is not certain death (like, sure I'd still be nervous of doing it without the crash mat or a spotter, but my wrists survived falling over backwards, and that was one of my big fears, so... progress!

Hanging on to little victories today. boom.

I was hoping to get to do some more handstands with the crash mat today, but we couldn't get into our normal room to train. Instead we did what basically turned into an hour long warm up, which was super nice. Girafa was basically going over notes from a couple intensives ago, making sure he remembered all of the movements and getting us warmed up to them. Really good time. Really chill.

Which was really good, because after Monday's class, my feet needed some TLC, which meant cutting off a big portion of the callous that was protecting my foot. This one was a lot deeper than usual, so the underflesh was softer than I'm used to. I'm a little nervous about getting this back up to regular toughness levels without blistering too much in the process, but we'll see.

I also took a picture of Girafa's notes to copy down. I'm excited to make them my own :3

So things have been touch-and-go for a bit as per usual... Found out today that not only is C out of town for 2 weeks, Girafa is also going out of town as well. They keep doing this. When it's not stressing me out, it's really amusing (because, as we know, they work at the same place, but they don't work together, and they don't really know each other that well or anything- it's just a 'small world' situation). But guys seriously?

Point one: Classes are MINE for the next two weeks. One of G's kids was sick today, he's working late on Weds, and out of town all next week. Hoping my classmates all show so I can flex my mini-instructor skills.

Point two: My sessions with C are all f'd up since he's out of town. This week's appointment was moved to today, and next week's will be on Friday. I've had breaks in sessions like this before, but usually not when I've been this eugh. BUT, I can do this. I mean, see above, gotta pwn those classes right?

So, today was a rough day. Session with C which was pretty intense, emotions running high left me cranky at the husband for most of the day, and found out that I would be leading class right about when I was considering letting Girafa know that I wasn't feeling up for coming. I managed to show up, even though I really didn't want to be around anyone, and lead an hour of movement for Old Korean Lady. Through all of the "i don' wanna"s and "get me outta here"s, working with her is pretty fun. I even got to teach her some slang when I said I was going to "call it early" at the end of class. Lookit me, teaching all over the place. However, once the distraction of class was done, all of the ugh settled back in and, well, meh. I really hope that tomorrow is a good day, because if it's not a good day it will potentially be a really bad day and I don't want that >.<

Bah, I don't really want to have such a downer of a post... Uhm... I did a few more crash mat handstands at the end of class tonight? If I keep it up I'll be able to start trying to actually find balance soon :P

I totally feel you on the brakes between sessions when life is crazy. Last week I didn't see my therapist because I worked in the afternoons (who thought it was a good idea to put me in charge of important catered dinners, I haven't done catering like that in years!), and he usually doesn't get in till 11 or 12. Last night was group, but it was only him, me, and this one woman who's in a really bad situation. So the whole group was the two of us trying to help her. Meanwhile I have so much stuff going on I'm going to have to fit hours of therapy into one hour tomorrow. <_<

Yay, handstands!

Thanks for the support guys <3

I've started writing down daily accomplishments (washing dishes, making food, leading class, etc). Hope I'll be able to continue it on my next rough day :P

Today I successfully made lunch (steamed broccoli, which was yummy, and scrambled eggs which I was less excited about), and I made cookies. Oh man, did I make some cookies. Like HQ cookies. Browned butter, which was a terrifying experience, and the oven kept being dumb, but I ended the day with 3 dozen really awesome cookies. @Black Daiquiri come help me eat them.

Class this evening was just me and Old Korean Lady, which was pretty fun. I'm hoping to have at least one more person in class next week, and trying to convince another friend to come just for kicks if she has time.
