suzyQlou, ghost runner

Now you see me, now you don't.   I feel like a ghost!  Timing of this challenge is a little...challenging?  Camp, vacation, work travel.  And I still think I'm going to train for a 5k that takes place in the next zero week?  I must be crazy.  Also late to the party by at least a day or so.

So, the race is on 8/12.  I ran it once before in 2015, and it's just a friendly little local fundraiser for the library.  I'd like to know I can still do it!

Goals:

1.  Cardio MWF.  I need to push these days.  No, I don't want to bust an ankle.  But no, I can't just dilly dally.  And I need to be active when traveling.

2.  Reasonable eating.  Too many special events to think I will be perfect, but every special occasion needs to reek of reasonableness

3.  Strength/Flexibility TThS.  I need to keep three days of strength going strong.  These need to include lower body work, not just the bare minimum workout I did when my knees hurt.

Sounds great Suzy! Will be cheering you on from the sidelines :) x

Thanks!  But I know better than to think you are on the sidelines.  Even when you are back in the city, I bet real life running will some day win your heart!

Glad to see you. A race sounds like a great motivator. Good for you for singing up.

Yes.  Exactly.  Hmmmmm.  Did I say I had actually signed up?  BRB.  Ok.  Yes.  Now it's official.  Credit card is charged, and t-shirt is reserved :)

That sounds like a great and reasonable goal (ok...set of goals, I just automatically focused on the running). You've got this!

Ha!  Yes, the running is the good one. It's really the thing I look forward to most in my fitness life these days.

Its always good to have simple goals when things get challenging IRL.

Absolutely!  Simple is the only way anything is going to get done in my life these days.

So, I have a good start so far.  I ran outside for the first time since I twinged an ankle at camp.  I have been so gun shy with the outdoor running, and have been doing my cardio on the elliptical.  I need to spend another 3 days at camp with kid #2 starting tomorrow, and I really need to be able to walk all day on super-healthy legs.  Anyway, I started nice and slow with 1/2 mile outside, and the rest of the workout on the elliptical.  It felt wonderful to be outside again...that's what I like most about running.  The fresh air.  Now I have only 2.5 miles to go for the 5k.  Seems reasonable :)

I do need some accountability for today's workout.  Since I have the house to myself for a few days, I have been indulging in doing "me" things.  I even got my haircut.  So, the problem is that I slept in this morning, and need to do my strength workout after work.  Should be a no brainer since I can do whatever the heck I want, but yeah.  Accountability is nice!

(I'm watching you...  LOL this gif makes me laugh!)

Ah, yes.  Love those eyes!!!

Thank you fellow nerds for looking out for me!  I am afraid I can only claim half credit on the workout but I DID A WORKOUT.  Any day with 32 pushups, 45 chair dips, and 10 minutes of stretching can't be marked as a total failure.  But I need to be better next time and include the squats, lunges, ankles, and hips.  As repentance, I added squats to my running warmup this morning.  Also ran .9 miles instead of the planned .75 and tacked five extra minutes onto the cardio at the end.  Phew!

Found you! Following! Love that you are running again. You can totally do a 5k just take it easy and listen to your body. I'm a little inspired to look up local races I can do in solidarity.

Oops. It's almost Next Thursday already. So much for my accountablility :)

Camp was a really good experience last week, and I'm just getting back in the swing of things. I didn't actually work out, but step couny was up to 25,000 steps. So pretty active.

One of my takeaways was how easy it was to eat at camp. Not many choices, so no food was off limits. I just ate what they served and was active enough to burn extra calories. I wouldn't want to eat camp food forever, but it was nice to stop fussing about food for a while.

Back on track with a 1.25 mile run. Under 11 minute miles which is speedy for me. My ankles and knees feel healthy. Building up to that 5k!

Hooray for all those steps. Your comment about food helps me to see why some people just pre sort all their food into individual servings for the entire week. That's what Spezzy does and then she just grabs it. Not sure how to do that when you have a family though.

So much positive here! I'm glad that camp was good and you were super active. I agree it is nice to take a break from fussing and stressing about food. It's especially nice when your activity level supports the extra calories.

The RUN! So speedy...keep it up. I need to look for a race. I have decided.

Were there s'mores? I hope there were s'mores!

Thanks for checking in on me.  I am even more ghost-like than I feared.  Last week had some great workouts...I even did my weekend strength workout which is the one I often miss.  Eating was a bit tricky over the weekend.  We spent a night in Washington D.C., and hit the International Spy Museum.  It felt like a mini vacation, and I'm afraid old vacation eating habits come back too easily.  One treat of a meal would have been ok...but then came the milkshake, pizza, etc.  I'll get to try again next weekend since we are going out of town again.

Good and bad news on the actual running.  Good news is that I increased my distance enough to run to my favorite garden center.  Bad news is I walked back.  I wish I didn't need both ankles to run a 5k!

Maybe if you had a set of spare ankles you could switch on, that would help. Vacations are hard. It sucks to have to be super strict, but then once I start making exceptions it's hard to "moderate" .
