Darkfoxx 38: Prepping For Takeoff

Recommended Posts

Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine. I'll quit being a slacker, and actually *do* a challenge.

This hype train ain't gonna build and run itself, now, is it?

tenor.gif

This is step 1 in a multi-part challenge where I: brace for impact but hurry up and wait, (temporarily) lose my DH, jettison 99% of the shit I own, pack my dog and myself up and move halfway across the globe, reunite with DH, and adjust to a whooooooooooole other level of "new normal".

I thought this last year was a kick in the butt? Well, I haven't seen anything yet.

This first part of the challenge *should* see me through about half of this journey - the DH is scheduled to bounce at the end of this month, and I'll be following shortly after on a grand tour of sorts to see a few people I need to see before relocating my start map.

That is, providing this shit actually happens this time and we're not forced to reconsider all of life reeeeaaaaaal quick. Again.

It should also see the return of some of my favorite Nerds to the boards, and an inevitable revving up of the hype train.

giphy.gif

So maybe I'll actually get off my ass and *do* something. Like, I dunno: Work Out, behave my belly, aim in a direction, post more than once a day while half asleep.

Goals

Since I'm still in a holding pattern as of this morning (I'm actually in an airport on my way back from a fantastic Nerd wedding weekend where I got to see some of my favorite Internet peeps + recharge my social batteries a bit), waiting to see if the last of the DH's paperwork clears and his timeline stays the same, I'm aiming to start small.

giphy.gif

Goal The First

Macros, yo. If I'm not Bucket listing it or at an event with Chef friends, I need to eat what I need to be eating to not feel like utter shit.

That includes a mostly-paleo diet following the following macros:

70g protein

70g or under carbs

100g or under fats

Now, given my current life circumstances (namely, the best damn brunch game in town run by a friend in my freaking building), a little leeway for fresh English muffins on the benny and chilaquiles is permitted on weekends.

giphy.gif

Goal The Second

Print, codify, collate, and color-coordinate as much moving-plan-wise as possible.

Book as much travel as I'm able.

Adult things like the dog shots & my vaccinations.

Also, film a weekly update for YouTube.

And, plan when and how to get rid of my shit - plan the "house cooling" party.

Get bins for and pack the shit we're storing with friends.

Spend as much time as possible with local friends.

Pull the trigger on the Amazon shopping list for travel essentials & clothing basics.

Detail aaaaaaaalll this minutia for y'all.

anigif_enhanced-24165-1409165923-13.gif?

Goal The Third

I've noticed over the past month or two that the arch on my left foot (my garbage fire side) has started collapsing. At the Walking Store, the foot scan they did showed a false high arch because I tend to stand with weight on the outsides of my foot - which is something I've noticed and tried to remain cognizant of since childhood - and is super totally why that side of my body is jacked up and that ankle rolls if you look at it funny. Duh.

I need to work on this. I've found a couple rehab routines that take zero space and almost no time - I need to do them. Daily. Or as close to daily as I can remember to do. My side-eye peeps, go ahead and rev those peepers up.

When-Someone-Favorite-Pop-Star-Problemat

I'd throw in a lofty yoga goal here too, but that's probably not realistically going to happen while my tiny-ass apartment is in chaos and I'm running around like a damn chicken with its head cut off.

tumblr_m9gdz7uB2Z1qeptiu.gif

Goal The Fourth

Stay Calm And Support My Nerds

Some of the more bananas Rangers *@Raxie* *cough* *@Wolfie* *cough* and I were missing the hype of the Ranger Board Of Old and feel it's time for a resurgence of the hype train.

#allthethings is missed, y'all, as is hitting the gas for the sake of hitting the gas.

200_s.gif

Even though my little corner of the universe is upending itself (again), Imma do my part and throw myself at that shit wherever possible. I'm returning to the minis, answering call-outs, and generally planning on supporting my Herd wherever possible - be that through numbers in a game, exposition, or simply more engaged commenting -- I'll be here with a big bottle of Hype.

This week's Mini includes a strong start - since I won't be able to ace my goals this week given yesterday was a travel day and not only did a pulled pork burrito with hashed browns happen for breakfast, but a lot of other crap happened throughout the day. Plus, I slept a bunch when I got home - so no attempt at rehab made.

Pluuuuuuuus ... it looks like there may be a slight hiccup with the health paperwork - DH's cholesterol is a little high - we're schedule a re-test for this week and waiting to see what that does to the timeline/likelihood that this shit is happening.

So, last night was a stress-fueled load of crap. Lots of deep breaths were had.

Challenge starts in earnest today - despite my breakfast being garbage, since i have little food up in this mofo.

Goal 3: Rehab Dem Arches & Do Some Shit

Did I work on rehabbing my arches today for at least 5 minutes? Did I work toward this week’s mini (this week’s mini is all about starting strong - work toward a PR, hit 100% on your goals)?

Did 2 sets of 10 stand & reaches, 1 set of 10 toe grabs, and rolled each foot for 3 minutes.

Did not work on the mini.

Goal 4: Stay Calm & Support My Nerds

Have I supported my Nerds with more than just a read and a thumbs up today?

Did 2 sets of 10 stand & reaches and 1 set of 10 toe grabs - aaaand my left toes wouldn't pick the towel up properly. I think I wore them out.

Did not work on the mini.

Goal 4: Stay Calm & Support My Nerds

Have I supported my Nerds with more than just a read and a thumbs up today?

Yeeeeeep. Followed a buuuuuuuunch of Nerds and spent a good chunk of time on the boards - which is good, because otherwise I'd be dwelling on shit I can't control.

Other Shit That Doesn't Fit In A Goal

Cleaned the kitchen a bit, because my house looks like a hot mess garbage pile.

Also got contacted by the last company I interviewed with --- they want to schedule an in-person interview, which I'm totally going to since things are once more uncertain re: moving.

And I also did a metric ton of research today on fixing the DH's cholesterol.

And I'm super sick of salads - but lettuce is like all I have in the fridge.

Yesterday

Goal 1: Macros

Breakfast: Bold sriracha almonds + golden raisins + coffee with almond milk

Lunch: Super late lunch of salmon sushi dinner (6 or 8 piece salmon roll + 8 pieces mixed nigiri sushi + the chefs' amuse bouche + miso soup) + a glass of wine because: stress

Dinner: Pig roast in the building put on by Chef Friend - 2-4 bites each of: pulled pork, potato salad that tasted like my childhood, macaroni & cheese, collards, slaw & salad) + a glass of wine

? calories

? of 70g protein

? of 70g carbs

? of 100g fats

Didn't track the dinner - was waaaaaaay over on carbs before dinner.

Goal 2: Prepare For Takeoff

  • X Print, codify and collate moving checklist
  • X Book travel
  • X Dog shots

Went to the doctor with the DH - he got a prescription for statins, which he started - and we went grocery shopping for an all heart-healthy diet. He skipped the pig roast and had a salad for dinner.

We have 2 weeks of this heart healthy protocol, then another blood panel, then a week or so to get the results -- providing those are good, his ship out date is now in the first week of August.

Spoke to the boss, and they don't seem to be freaking out - the one he knows told us to slow our roll, anxiety-wise.

Slow our roll, we are trying to do.

Goal 3: Rehab Dem Arches & Do Some Shit

Did I work on rehabbing my arches today for at least 5 minutes? Did I work toward this week’s mini (this week’s mini is all about starting strong - work toward a PR, hit 100% on your goals)?

Nooooope. Forgot to rehab today, with all the running around with the DH for the doctor, trying to see if we could walk in anywhere to get another blood test so his 24 hour fast wouldn't have gone to waste (spoiler: you can't in NY; it's illegal), and buying allthethings for him to eat. Also trying to remember how to cook beans, lentils and quinoa.

Did not work on the mini.

Goal 4: Stay Calm & Support My Nerds

Have I supported my Nerds with more than just a read and a thumbs up today?

Yup. Spent a chunk of time on the Boards.

Other Shit That Doesn't Fit In A Goal

Kept the kitchen clean, did more cholesterol research, hung out with friends.

Following for doge!

...and maybe because you're awesome too I GUESS

PS There are so many plant-based and/or heart-healthy type restaurants in the city that you can check out with family! Yes they're not classic NY Pizza or China Town buns butttt I think they still exhibit the amazing diversity in cuisine we have here and it's all freakin' delicious!

*maybe* *blows bangs out of face* *shrugs*

RECS PLEEEEEEEEASE. I needs them. I'm drawing a blank except for Locinda Verde and I forget where exactly that is, but have heard it's amaze on at least the GF front.

I'm super taking them past Insta-famous spots for shits & giggles. I'm thinking that Chloe vegan spot, the Cronut place if I can ever damn find it again, and maybe about tracking down a legit rainbow bagel or that shop that sells unicorn shit. Mostly just to troll my Emo Teen niece.

Mini update: Since the literatures all call for 30 minutes of light to moderate exercise a day for those wishing to un-jack their cholesterol, we've decided to have family gym time every day.

That started today.

I did 20 minutes on the treadmill in toe shoes, and guuuuuuuuuuurl. My arch is b-a-r-k-i-n-g. As is the entirety of the outside of my left leg. I concentrated real hard on striking onthe balls of my foot/midfoot and with even pressure on my entire foot, and daaaaaaaaaaamn. My arches are tired.

Methinks this counts as rehab for the day.

I've also cooked a huge pot of black beans (and am hella jealous I can't eat any without dying), a bigass sweet potato, and made a huge bowl of salad for lunch. THe DH also made a cup of this instant quinoa pack stuff we found - so things are not going to poorly over here, operation Unjack The Cholesterol So We Can Live Our Lives wise.

As far as plant based goes LadyBird and Urban Vegan Kitchen are amazeballs and have REALLY healthy options, like you legit can't go wrong with anything on their menu in terms of high fiber and no processed stuff.

For not 100% plant based (ie it has the meats) Springbone Kitchen is absolutely wonderful and is also you can't go wrong with anything on their menu in terms of heart healthy type stuffs. Hu Kitchen I've never eaten at but heard rave reviews from some others and I just checked out their menu and kind of want to go there immediately myself.

Love the challenge and glad you're finding ways of staying distracted! And just letting you know, you bossed it last weekend because I didn't hear ONE...not ONE complaint about your arches all weekend. Maybe it was the super swanky Onitsuka Tiger's??

How Wolfie rides the Hype Train...

YouTube update posted Friday, has NF out with 1 local + 1 not-local Nerd on Saturday.

Goal 3: Rehab Dem Arches & Do Some Shit

Did I work on rehabbing my arches today for at least 5 minutes? Did I work toward this week’s mini (this week’s mini is all about starting strong - work toward a PR, hit 100% on your goals)?

Did 20 minutes on the treadmill in toe shoes Friday, which has exhausted my feet & calves & shins even today (Sunday).

Decided it would be a good idea to take my sore lower legs and walk from the Ferry at the tip of Manhattan, most of the way across the island, half the way back across, and up to Bryant Park (42nd St.). I'd say I walked 50? 55 blocks?

Totally counting both toward the mini.

Goal 4: Stay Calm & Support My Nerds

Have I supported my Nerds with more than just a read and a thumbs up today?

Friday, yes. Saturday - I was busy walking my ass off and then my phone died while I was out - which of course freaked DH out when he couldn't spot me on Find My Friends. Oops. I totally should have texted from a friends' phone. Bad wife.

Treadmills kill my arches. I can walk for miles on ground no problem, but  two miles on the treadmill kill me
