  1. Week 3 Progress Report Goal 1: Recover from the holidays...and then some Body fat goal: 26.25% Start of challenge: 28.27% Current measurement: 27.46% Change this week: down 0.22% Total change so far: down 0.81% Amount left to lose: 1.21% Waist size goal: 38.5" Start of challenge: 39.75" Current measurement: 39.25" Change this week: none Total change so far: down 0.5" Amount left to lose: 0.75" Paleo progress: I used 4/1 NPTs. My bank is now at 15 Meal and 10 Snack NPTs. No movement in my waist measurements this week, and I think I know why. See the next section. Goal 2: The Superhero Trajectory Gym time 2-3 times per week: uh...I did this 0 times this week. I chalk this up to the reason why I didn't make any progress on my waist measurements. Supplement with Days 5-46 of the PLP 60-day challenge. Days 17-23 complete! I chalk THIS ONE up to the reason why I still made progress in the BF% category. Further supplement workouts with trying out HIIT on off-days, 1-2 times per week. None of these this week. I've been fighting off fatigue this week. I've also been lazy. Both have accounted for a complete lack of gym time (other than PLP) this week. But next week's gonna be awesome, darn it! Goal 3: "Cure" my apartment Participate in "The January Cure," modified to suit my needs. I used the MLKJr Holiday on Monday to completely rearrange my room (this instead of going to see part 3 of The Hobbit, which I have yet to see). The change feels A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! It's so much more open in my room now and less cluttered. My bed now rests underneath a sky light which is fairly wonderful. That was Phase 1. Phase 2 involves cleaning off my bookshelf, weeding through and seeing what books I want to keep and what to get rid of. It may also involve moving my bookshelf to a different part of my room. Continue to lighten the load by getting rid of 50-100 more pounds of "stuff." Big progress this week, as I got rid of another huge batch of old papers and shredded lots of old files. I also sold an old book! The total weight I got rid of was 23.5 pounds, leaving at least another 20 pounds to go. My outbox is also getting pretty full and will need to be taken to the thrift store in the near future. Goal 4: Become multi-lingual Practice French at least 5 times per week using the DuoLingo website/app. Practiced every day this week. I restrengthened all my skills and started working on the skill "Household." You can follow my progress here. Bonus points if I can get a 40 day streak on DuoLingo (starting from today)! Currently on a 17-day streak.
  2. As an encouragement, remember that you can do pushups just about anywhere in small amounts of time. Enjoy your time away!
  3. Thanks! I've fallen a little behind on some of the "Cure" assignments, but hoping this weekend to catch up a bit. Today's/this weekend's assignment is a good one, one I've been needing to buckle down and do for a very long time: cleaning my bedroom! Weighed in this morning, so here we go... Week 2 Progress Report Goal 1: Recover from the holidays...and then some Body fat goal: 26.25%Start of challenge: 28.27%Current measurement: 27.68%Change this week: down 0.51%Total change so far: down 0.59%Amount left to lose: 1.43%Waist size goal: 38.5"Start of challenge: 39.75"Current measurement: 39.25"Change this week: down 0.25"Total change so far: down 0.5"Amount left to lose: 0.75"Paleo progress: Yesterday was all Paleo and so far so is today, so my bank still rests at 19 Meal and 11 Snack NPTs. If last week felt like a measurement tease, today felt like a huge victory! Losing half a percent in one week is amazing and highly motivating to keep going! Goal 2: The Superhero Trajectory Gym time 2-3 times per week: twice this week and planning on a third visit today.Supplement with Days 5-46 of the PLP 60-day challenge. I have completed Days 10-16. Definitely getting harder for sure, but I'm already feeling stronger and have noticed that my arms already seem bigger.Further supplement workouts with trying out HIIT on off-days, 1-2 times per week. I did 1 last Friday, which was at the end of my first workout after about a 3 week gap. Major DOMS was the result, haha. I may get another in today, though, since the majority of the DOMS has worn off and I've been more consistent with working out this week.Goal 3: "Cure" my apartment Participate in "The January Cure," modified to suit my needs. I have not made much, if any, progress on this this week, with the semester starting. But I'm hoping to knock out a few assignments this weekend and get more or less caught up. Continue to lighten the load by getting rid of 50-100 more pounds of "stuff." A few more things in the outbox, but the total remaining to get rid of still stands at 43.5 pounds. As I work more on the "Cure" assignments, this number will change for the better.Goal 4: Become multi-lingual Practice French at least 5 times per week using the DuoLingo website/app. Practiced every day this week. I have 1-2 more skills to restrengthen and then I'll be on to new material! You can follow my progress here.Bonus points if I can get a 40 day streak on DuoLingo (starting from today)! Currently on a 10-day streak. And that's the week!
  4. Used a Snack and Meal NPT each over the last 2 days (down to 19 Meal and 11 Snack NPTs). The meal one was for lunch today as I wanted to try the grill special at work (Irish Nachos). Now I feel awful, haha! I am going to try to use this experience to dissuade me in the future from having a meal that I know will sit in my belly like a rock while also having the effect of making me want to skip the gym this afternoon. I would rather not do that, though. Speaking of the gym, it went well on Monday, though I was dealing with some fairly painful DOMS due to the intensity of Friday's workout. As such, I cut out my HIIT finisher. But I still got through my workout, just needing to take it a little easier on box jumps, since most of the DOMS was in my legs. But I managed to not hurt myself doing those, so that's a definite plus. As of today with French I'm on an 8-day streak.
  5. Great goals and great progress on them! I especially admire your Bible-reading goal, as that is one of my non-Challenge life goals this year, too. Also, I applaud you on the sugar detox that you and Mr. Incredible are undergoing! Hopefully you're already experiencing better energy levels by cutting out the artificial and going natural!
  6. No sweat on using up more NPTs than you intended. Going back to Paleo after the holidays has been hard for sure! Sometimes when I'm having trouble focusing, I try to get in just 1 day that's completely Paleo, and then another, and sometimes then another still. Taking it one day at a time can be really helpful sometimes when you're potentially in the midst of detoxing from all that holiday sugar! And we all know how that can feel! Good job on the runs and getting your strength workout in! Despite how you probably feel, you're doing well and I like your attitude with making this week your "high score" week.
  7. Awesome workout stats, Steve! And your parallettes video is super inspiring, motivating and challenging! Also, from one (formerly nervous) singer to another, keep on workin' those pipes and be brave!
  8. Thanks, EG! That's exactly what I'm going for with the tokens. Sometimes fun things happen in life that are too good to pass up, and the tokens are meant to allow for those to happen without derailing everything along the way. I have really enjoyed the freedom, but within a framework of support, that they have allowed. PS, I will hopefully be catching up on your thread very soon! Here's a little mid-week update: This weekend (case in point to what EG and I were talking about above) I used 1 Snack and 2 Meal NPTs. My bank now stands at 20 Meal NPTs and 12 Snack NPTs left for the duration of the challenge.I did manage to get back to the gym on Friday, rolling in a normal workout rounded out with a supplemental HIIT routine. I'm very sore today with DOMs, but am planning on going to the gym again today. Here's a summary of my workout:Mobility and wrist warm-up (realized I forgot my start of workout stretches later on in my workout. Will roll those back in today.)Balance work (5 minutes of handstand work, 10 cartwheels each direction. My left side cartwheels are super rough but coming along.)PowerBox jumps (mid thigh height): 10/10/10Plyometric pushups: 10/6/5StrengthAssisted pistol squats (hate these, but am inspired by some of Steve's videos): 5/3/2Chinups: 4/3/2Dive bomber pushups: 10/6/5HIIT Finisher Level 1 (managed 6 rounds [aiming for 11] of the following...)15 second high intensity sprints60 second walkStretchingAlso this morning I completed Day 12 of PLP, broken up into sets of 6/3/3.No additional progress on my Apartment "Cure" but will likely work with my flatmates this week on getting our kitchen/refrigerator in order. The fridge is of particular priority. As of this morning, I'm at a 6 day streak with French on DuoLingo. I've almost restrengthened all my skills that I let lapse before my trip to France and am looking forward to starting to learn some new skills again.
  9. Week 1 Progress Report Goal 1: Recover from the holidays...and then some Body fat goal: 26.25%Start of challenge: 28.27%Current measurement: 28.19%Total change so far: down 0.08%Amount left to lose: 1.94%Waist size goal: 38.5"Start of challenge: 39.75"Current measurement: 39.5"Total change so far: down 0.25"Amount left to lose: 1"Paleo progress: Managed to keep the last 2 days 100% Paleo, so my bank still rests at 22 Meal NPTs and 13 Snack NPTs. With meals and snacks broken out like that, it really helps me better visualize where I want to be. It also makes my Tokens feel that much more valuable. If I looked at it as having 35 NPTs left, I'd probably use them a bit more quickly because it would feel like I've got a lot left. Mind games, sure, but so far they're working! As far as measurements go, obviously I'm very happy at the waist measurement. The BF% measurement at this point feels more like a tease, but I'm very happy that it's a step in the right direction! It points towards good things to come. Goal 2: The Superhero Trajectory Gym time 2-3 times per week: not so much, haha. I have yet to go this week. I think detoxing from holiday sugar has made me feel more sluggish/lazy than usual. But I've got my gym bag sitting behind me right now, in preparation for when I go after work today.Supplement with Days 5-46 of the PLP 60-day challenge. So far so good, I have yet to miss a day and I've already completed Day 9's movements before work this morning.Further supplement workouts with trying out HIIT on off-days, 1-2 times per week. This has not happened yet. Anyone have any good suggestions for beginner HIIT routines?Goal 3: "Cure" my apartment Participate in "The January Cure," modified to suit my needs. Going well so far. I haven't followed their plan to a T, but that's okay since it's meant to suit my needs. I've cleaned out 2 out of 5 desk drawers and emptied out 1 cardboard box from the basement so far. I've also started shredding a bunch of unnecessary old files.Continue to lighten the load by getting rid of 50-100 more pounds of "stuff." With file shredding, I'm already up to about 6.5 lbs gone. That leaves 43.5 lbs left to purge at the very least. That will change once I fill my "outbox," which will then get donated.Goal 4: Become multi-lingual Practice French at least 5 times per week using the DuoLingo website/app. Two lessons in so far this week, with another coming today. So this week I won't get my 5 in, but I'm on my way towards my 40 day streak. Bonus points if I can get a 40 day streak on DuoLingo (starting from today)! Currently on a 2-day streak. So that's me for week one. All told not a bad week, though not a "perfect" week, either. But I'm happy with my progress so far and I would probably rate Week One as A-/B+.
  10. Steal away, brother. Glad they're working for you (and hopefully others), too!
  11. I'll fill this first post out more when I'm home, but here are my goals for this challenge, just to get them out there. Goal 1: Recover from the holidays...and then some What this looks like: Body fat goal: 26.25%Start of challenge: 28.27%Where I ended in 2014: 26.97%How much I need to reduce beyond 2014 levels: 0.72%Waist size goal: 38.5"Start of challenge: 39.75"Where I ended in 2014: 38.75"How much I need to reduce beyond 2014 levels: 0.25"Supported through maintaining an 80/20 Paleo diet. Having all my Non-Paleo Tokens (NPTs) for meals and snacks in one pot during the last challenge hindered me a little I think, so I'm going to separate them out and have different banks for each. So that means I start the challenge with 25 Meal NPTs and 17 Snack NPTs.If by some miracle, I blow past these goals, I have stretch goals in mind that I'll introduce when/if the time comes. Goal 2: The Superhero Trajectory What this looks like: Gym time 2-3 times per week. I'm currently still doing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles workout, but I'm not necessarily tied to that. However, they are superheroes I can admire. Supplement with Days 5-46 of the PLP 60-day challenge. I started doing PLP on January 1st, so why not use that to my advantage!Further supplement workouts with trying out HIIT on off-days, 1-2 times per week.Goal 3: "Cure" my apartment What this looks like: Participate in "The January Cure," modified to suit my needs.Continue to lighten the load by getting rid of 50-100 more pounds of "stuff."Goal 4: Become multi-lingual What this looks like: Practice French at least 5 times per week using the DuoLingo website/app.Bonus points if I can get a 40 day streak on DuoLingo (starting from today)!I did technically start my challenge on Monday, and I definitely used some NPTs over the past few days so my bank is currently at 22 Meal NPTs and 13 Snack NPTs.
  12. Dude, you got this! Love your goals and I can't wait to cheer you on (hopefully more than the last few challenges)!! Hope the NPTs get you to where you want to be.
  13. Final Challenge Report Goal 1: Eat at least 80% paleo. I sort of lost track at the end there. Was probably over by 3-5 meals/snacks, which makes me effectively about 78% Paleo challenge-wide. Overall, I did well, though, so I think I'd still give myself an A on this one. Goal 2: Lose at least 2.5% body fat. Final percentage at weigh in was 26.97%, which means I had a total reduction of 1.61%. While still almost a full percentage point away from my goal, I still feel this is a pretty good result, so I'd give myself a B- on this one. Goal 3: Complete the NF Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Workout 2-3 times per week. I was solid on this goal for the first 4 weeks, but then started to lag in weeks 5 and 6, making it to the gym only once each week. I'd probably give myself a C+ on this goal. Life Goal: Get rid of 50 more pounds of stuff. Done and done! Made my final donation of 45 pounds worth of stuff that I don't need to bring me up to the full 50 pounds. A.
  14. Right on, pear! If that doesn't motivate me, I don't know what does. How goes the challenge? How was your visit with the lady?
  15. Well, obviously I'm super late to this game, but thanks so much, and congrats to my fellow Most Wanted Assassins! I'm very honored to be part of such a talented crew.
