    Adam’s First Challenge

Each night will be a life. I’m not really limiting the booze due to calories (more often than not, my drink of choice is neat whisky so not too calorific as far as alcohol goes), more trying to improve the quality of my sleep. With a baby and toddler in the house, sleep is quite precious at the moment!

Hang in there! Dating is sometimes "blah," but there are some good ones out there - or at least that's the hope I keep holding on to as a guy inching ever closer to 30.

Thanks for the reminder. I'm here to get paid, not to derail my actual life. It is hard to separate sometimes. Being behind schedule is nothing I caused or can help fix, that is a problem outside of most of our control. Being perpetually understaffed and having the deadlines moved on us was not helpful. I distracted myself with more tea and a little walk. Only an hour and a half until lunch!

Their lack of competence and common sense must not be allowed to invade your life outside of work, by increasing donut temptations! They do not deserve that kind of power. On a more serious note, having been way behind schedule on big projects plagued by incompetent sidekicks, I hope it gets better soon, so you don't have to deal with the extra stress! A good support system outside your work environment makes all the difference for staying mentally healthy in this kind of situation. We're here for you!

That's What I do. I cook and I say Encouraging Things (and Workout): Tanktimus' Challenge

Our house has this. When it was renovated, they added a bathroom on the first floor, and it's right off the dining/living room. That shower only gets used by guests, but I'm glad to have an extra bathroom! It is weird though. Good luck house hunting!

    Brogo: beats for brainz

^^^I've had some success with the above - but I also have to be pretty diligent about bedtime in the evenings to make early mornings work. Otherwise, I power through for a couple days feeling great (although really probably struggling from the sleep deprivation) and then the wheels fall off. But if the early mornings are REALLY not working, maybe there are other ways to accomplish the goal of starting work earlier, like streamlining what you do before work in the morning?

Miles to go before I sleep...

I know, I'm late. That's ok, this challenge is more of a....not respawn, but refocus for myself. I don't need to be perfect every day. I do not approach this with dread, but with zen anticipation. Kinda. I can see how much further I can push myself, and I need to start doing it! Focus for the next 6 months: losing fat, gaining muscle & strength. I will prioritise this to the exclusion of all else but my adult responsibilities. I'm not happy with how my body moves right now, and I'm too willing to excuse lapses in good judgement for the sake of 'lifestyle balance'. A bit of strict goal-setting for a while won't cause my any damage, and my head is in a good place for it. SO: By the end of this challenge, I want to be doing at least 20min of moderate exercise nearly every day. I joined several other members in the PVP section for a longer-term goal system, which included for myself maintaining daily activity through a weekly km walking goal, and macro quotas for protein and veg. I'm hitting those consistently enough that I need to push harder now. I want to have a significantly (ie. ~800-1,000kcal) reduced calorie intake for AT LEAST 2 days/week by the end of this challenge. I can do more, but that's the minimum I'm setting myself, a la 5:2. That's easier for me than reducing kcal every day. And I'm going to focus on staying hydrated; resigning myself to running to the bathroom regularly. Gah. For leveling up my life; I'm going to put some thought towards finding a tribe. I am feeling without direction or engagement, and need to make some changes. Since I don't need much social interaction, I tend not to seek it out much; plus last year, I gave myself permission to quit any activities I wasn't really enjoying, as a 'rest period' to reset. But I've found that my social life has shrunk to an uncomfortable degree - and I'm not really getting excited about doing much at all. So I need to start experimenting with where/how to find people that I'm willing/interested to spend time around. If only I wasn't an arrogant SOB that didn't like small talk. Fitness & Diet: Week 1: at least 3 days with 20min workout, at least 1 day of low kcal, every day must drink at least 750mL of additional water intake a day Week 2: at least 4 days with 20min workout, at least 1 day of low kcal, every day must drink at least 1L of additional water intake a day Week 3: at least 5 days with 20min workout, at least 2 day of low kcal, every day must drink at least 1,250mL of additional water intake a day Week 4: at least 6 days with 20min workout, at least 2 day of low kcal, every day must drink at least 1.5L of additional water intake a day Level Up: Week 1: Do something that takes me out of my comfort zone. Am going to comic-con today! Never been, have always wanted to check it out, and I've already tried to talk myself out of it at least 3 times since Monday (cost, crowds, effort, not wanting to buy anything there, etc.). Week 2: Sit down and write at least 3 topics/activities that I can get excited about. This is going to be a PIA, but it's gotta happen. I need to be honest with myself. Week 3: Brainstorm how those 3 things may translate into finding a community, be it online or in person. Week 4: Attend one new activity to try to meet folks. I recharge away from people, but became very comfortable starting convos with strangers when I travelled after uni, so fortunately I don't have any anxiety around this goal. Just....chagrin. I've had a period of pause, hibernation, rest, and stillness. Need to start pushing again.

I only ate two of the six yesterday, so the temptation continues. And with my jackass coworkers continuing to subtly suggest shit going wrong is my fault instead of just taking responsibility or facing the reality of how behind schedule we are, the temptation grows.

    KCAleece Gets Fabulous!

Thanks Normally I would drink more coffee - which I normally doctor up with plenty of milk and sugar but will drink black when on cup #2 or more so it doesn't become a sugar/calorie bomb all the time - but I also don't want to drink it too late in the day, so I went with picking the nuts and raisins out of a trail mix on my drive home and then indulging in Chinese take-out for dinner. Which is admittedly still a lot of sugar, but it's not a dessert, so...progress? I even had to turn down clearance Easter candy while out on a shopping run and my favorite dessert ever, chocolate chip cookie dough, that my husband was going to make me as a sweet but slightly misguided attempt to make me feel better. But I MADE IT! No desserts yesterday at all, I'm so freaking proud of myself I might be struggling with most other things in life right now, but at least I got that one check in the "win" column. Official countdowns:21 school days left47 days left until we go to Mexico Challenge updates: Quest 2: Keep coffee table clean (7/9 days) There's actually a little more on the coffee table now, but it's all stuff that can be said to belong there (like we finally bought more Kleenex), so I'm still calling it clean for now until I find a better spot for those things. Quest 4: Defeat the sugar demon! (1 day complete) See above - I managed not to eat any dessert yesterday!!! Whew! Quest 7: Personal care task (7/9 days) Done! Quest 10: (Find and) dye the Portugal dressI bought some dye last night, but the color on the bottle looks a lot lighter than I wanted, so I'm going to look up their website (the bottle says they have a lot of "recipes" there) and see if I should maybe buy a second color to mix together or something. Also, I didn't make it a quest this time around but my grad school semester ends on Sunday night and I have been super productive this morning on it so far! We had three essays to turn in and I got 2 of them finished and in this morning. Now I just need to massively put my head down and work on that third one, which is supposed to be submitted for professional publication later...I can only miss 3 points on it to keep my 4.0 in the class overall, so I **really** want to do super well!!! (No, I haven't missed that many points so far. There's only 100 points in the class at all and I have to stay at or above a 94% to keep a 4.0. I've missed 3 points so far, which gives me a maximum of 3 more before I hit a 3.5 overall. Though one of those essays I turned in this morning might help, because part of it was editing a prior paper and I should hopefully get maybe a point or even two back...)

Wut. So cofusing. Oh well, deadlifts look good and you can use the antique washing machine for cooking large amounts of pasta, storing yarn where the cats can't get it, or, idk, washing things.

No but I'd eat the crap out of that. The Caribbean version. I got goat. It's a giant tortilla like thing and they make a pocket and inside it has meat, potato, spices, hot sauce and a gravy.

    I'm baaaaack!!!

I'm no MD, just a DVM with a history of my own injuries, but pain just above the kneecap sounds like inflammation of the tendon of the quad. You can also get inflammation of the cartilage of the underside of the patella (that's what I've got! wheee). Ice is your friend. Knee stabilizing exercises are your friend too. Hope your knees feel better soon!
