    18/4 Two weeks today I get on a bus to go down south for the Super. Not entirely happy with that, but short of time travel there's really not much to be done. Probably past time I embraced my fate... That little realisation aside, today has actually been a good one. Got a decent sleep, didn't berate myself for waking late, and managed a trip into Edinburgh without any major incidents. I even managed to try on some clothes without having a meltdown about how my body looks. Minimal crowd panic too, which was nice. It wasn't comfortable, but it was bearable. Warm, too. Without the wind I think it might even have been t-shirt weather, which is a nice change from the grey skies and threat of rain (and occasional snow) we've had up until now. Three of four steps so far. Went for a walk full of stairs and hills, made myself busy around the flat, and actually managed three proper meals, two of which were even cooked from scratch. haven't done that in a while. And I've even written myself a note to remind me to meditate before bed. Forgot last night. I'm going to very tentatively set some intentions for tomorrow: that I'll finish arranging my transport for RRDW (which means a trip to the train station to get tickets), and that I'll finally finish up converting my box/junk room into the world's smallest study. I'll update tomorrow evening.

    Ah, sorry, the color explanations are in my last challenge. The colors are based on timing. Green means I did the thing on schedule (currently with a 30 minute window, so if I get lunch at 1:29, it still counts as green). Yellow means I did the thing within an hour of its scheduled time. Red means that I did the thing, but it was over an hour off (nearly always later rather than earlier). Red with a line through it means the thing didn't happen. I edit the day's schedule throughout the day, so if you go back and look at yesterday's post, you'll see that I had mostly greens in the afternoon, until bed time, when I got to sleep over an hour late. It's a handy visualization for me to see what parts of my schedule I'm having the most trouble with. Unsurprisingly, it's sleep schedule. Weekend sleeping in is lovely, but it would be much better if I could just get enough sleep every night...

    I'm baaaaack!!!

    So I've been out of the Nerd Fitness game for a while. Hell, out of the Fitness Fitness game for a while. But I did that whole "resolution" thing this year and it's actually been going great. I joined Orangetheory. (strength and HIIT for anyone unfamiliar) I went all-in and decided to compete in their 8-week Transformation Challenge. I lost 20 pounds in those 8 weeks and freaking WON my location's challenge for the women. This was a FIVE INCH change in my waist alone. Holy shit. I developed a solid habit of working out 3+ times a week. I devolved back into eating like crap when I didn't have to track my food in order to be eligible to win. I literally ate chocolate and pizza yesterday, and not much else. So, mostly wins, but I'm still not 100% there yet. I feel a little bit hesitant setting goals that aren't consistency-related just yet as I clearly still need work on that in the diet department. So that's what I'm gonna focus on for this challenge. A huge motivation of this Orangetheory challenge was the possibility of winning $2500. While I didn't win that (it was city-wide and the winner lost 15+% of her starting weight, while I was just over 9%), remaining eligible to win was huge. So were the before/after pictures. So I'll do the photos, but I need another idea for the reward. Maybe one for consistency and another for reaching some kind of actual goal? How's everybody been? What's new round these parts? What have I missed?
  8. Way to go! Is this your first Oxfam100? I did it in Perth a few years ago but had to pull out at 75km with a knee injury. Can't wait to see how you get on with your 35km hike.

    Yeah, she's a nightmare sometimes. I know what she's like but yeah, I don't like being yelled at for no reason. I KNOW! So much nerves and excitement! The Marine told me that I'm not allowed to keep coming home in a pissy pants mood anymore because he's over it. He's going to start kicking me out - by which he means sending me to the gym to work out and calm the hell down. I don't see any downside to the suggestion. . . 2 a days would probably really help me rn. Confession ONE a day would also be a significant improvement at the mo. . . Oops. I'm slacking REAL hard. My mental health is just not being cooperative and I'm milking that excuse for ALL I can get But it is Midget Mayhem's spring break so everything feels all loosey goosey and. . . spring breaky. The weather finally came around and all I want in the whole wide world is to sit on the porch and gossip with my friends and drink wine.

  12. I have the oddest period weight pattern. Everybody always says weight gain before and during is normal. For me, the day before my period and the day after the last day of my period will be 5-10lbs. Now I'm a big girl so percentagewise that's not crazy. But it is frustrating. I'm up 6lbs from a week ago and my period ended a day ago. During my period I was up only 3lbs and I thought "hey that's not so bad" Happens every single time, feel like I've been losing the same 10lbs all year.

    Damn. I don't think it's like that in other countries. What an unnecessary burden on those who are already unwell. It's hard... thinness has social currency as long as people collectively believe it does. Just like paper money has value as long as we keep acting as though it does. But if we choose a different path we have to forgo the praise and other rewards of thinness. We also get to forgo the downsides. And there are lots of other valuables to be had, such as home made beef pie and apple tart with creme fraiche and deadlift PRs, so we should hopefully be okay.
