    New Rules - Deffy #51

Sunday Update Yesterday was spent in a similar manner to Saturday in that I used sleep as a substitute for being able to breathe. I did my workout first thing (a Darebee cardio followed by 35 minutes on the elliptical for an hour in total), then showered, got my work done and slept. We played a little Tomb Raider in between my naps and then we went to my parents for a roast. In the evening I stayed up a little to watch the European Election results come through. Similar to every other election night I found it difficult to sleep since it feels like important stuff is going on, even if I could have predicted those results months ago. I went over on calories yesterday but everything else was nailed. I would really love to start feeling better soon though. Overall I got 90% for last week which is well within my 80% margin for error. That bralette is so mine.

I walked the Parkrun 5K. My ankle survived. Saturday night movie was The Legend of Barney Thompson. We did some paddling. The rowing season is almost over, the pond is getting shallow. And I have another challenge up It should be here.

Wow those are amazing results! You’re fucking awesome, both as a coach and as an athlete. Kudos for crashing and burning, and being ok with it. That’s some excellent mental game. And hey it might’ve worked!

    Baby's First Battle Log

Keeping it brief today, didn't do anything too impressive. I definitely exhausted myself yesterday - I slept until after 2, and I couldn't get out of bed until 4. I've been sluggish and tired and a little sore all day, so fitness-wise I have nothing to note. I built a shelf, though! I tried to get some work done on food today, but with mixed results given my energy levels and how much I slept. I ate a protein bar when I woke up. A bit later I had a salad with some spring greens, persian cucumbers, and green beans I got from my co-op basket, with taco meat my fiance made and a bit of cheese, tossed with balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, black pepper, and garlic powder. I just ate a bowl of popcorn with powdered cheese and Penzys seasoned salt. Depending on how we feel we may or may not be going out again tomorrow, so...we'll see what happens? If not, I want to make homemade tomato sauce. We'll see what happens!

It is getting cold. 1. Walking, exercise challenge thingy part here. I am taking much care of my ankle. It is much better, but I am aware of it. But I have to do something exercisey. 2. Keep a logbook on what I eat. Whether I like it or not I have to start counting calories sometime. This will be a start. 3. Sleep. This is very very difficult. 4. Whatever.
  8. Blocky

Blocky is Knee Deep in the Dead

Week 1 - Mon Beating the hell out of demons: Finally feel like I'm making some progress with this mess. I don't need to spend 20 mins warming up anymore and the squatting feels great for the adductor right up to about 85kg, then it feels weird. But at least it doesn't feel weird all the time. Also, I'm able to work faster and have shaved about 20mins off my training sessions. Squats: 5's at 95kg (soooo damned close to 100kg... hoping that by the end of this challenge, I'll be squatting 5 x 5 at 100kg without any issues. Plus depth today was pretty good.) Sumo Block Pulls: 170kg x 1 - felt super good, I think I'll try for 175+ next week, then 3's at 145kg. Leg Press and back extensions Out thinking the Spidermind: Some small progress. Bashed out the script for a small talk on an extremely boring subject that has no bearing on my aspirations of dietician-ing. Scorecard: Punch the cyberdemon in the nuggets: 2/5 (I'm counting the Squats today as pushing past my comfort zone - I wasn't super confident on my warmups but once I got to 85kg, I went with fuck it and blasted out 3 x 5 at 95kg without over thinking it - I only managed 1 set last week) Look as good as the pig demon: 0/5 (A little better today, I've had proper meals and not much snacking but my weight is up a little bit... I'm blaming the upcoming exams) Talk to the Imps: 0/5 Small amount of progress Outhink the spidermind: - Battleplans (study notes): 0/1 (Started printing and organising biology notes - just need to put them in a binder. Science notes are done.) - Moar battleplans (organise schedule): 0/1 - Study demon biology: 1/1 (Done! I need this workbook for an open book exam tomorrow).
  9. C-Day -1 (challenge day) Exercise - Smashed workout #3 on SL5X5. Well obviously, at these weights I could lift it all day. Glad I've decided to go up by 10lbs until I reach challenging weights. Should take another 2 weeks I think before OHP becomes difficult. Nutrition - 24g carbs 137g fat 143g protein 14g alcohol 2056 calories, 2 big salads, a tomato, a zuchinni, some blueberries, cauliflower and broccoli. Decent veggie day. General day - why is getting the 3 year old moving in the morning such a challenge without bribing her or making her cry for getting frustrated? I've tried everything, TV, no TV. Every breakfast, chocolate pancakes, whipped cream, rare steak and easy over eggs with hash browns (something she would devour in 20-30 minutes at dinner) etc. Anyone with some ideas? I live in a small town with no pre school, no daycare and she has only a handful of friends. Weather is an issue, where it will rain for 20 days straight in the winter, so taking her out morning and afternoon every day in the summer is setting us up for failure. Will do a weigh in tomorrow.

    Flea Learns How to Human

Yup. I actually called and complained bc I had to drive 20 minutes home and stand in my driveway with a hairdryer for 15. They gave me $15 “for my trouble” which is stupid but they charge it directly to the passenger so I don’t feel bad because she was such a dick. Now it’s 11:50 and I’m getting food and I still have to do a thing I enjoy, which I thought I’d be doing hours ago. Womp. Fanfiction it is.

Once I get stuff a little more under control, I have this task-zone thing, where I do a set time (15-20 minutes) on a different zone each day and every zone on weekends, just to make sure I'm not neglecting some stuff for longer than I should. Just keep a list of the jobs in that zone, work the time limit and stop. Sure, I won't get all the stuff this time around. But I'll keep chipping away at it everything. I've got two or three suggestions for putting branches somewhere. If your yard has room for a big compost pile, they can go in that. Most people's don't. If you plan the sort of landscaping that needs mulch or wood chips, rent a chipper or shredder for an afternoon instead of buying your mulch/wood chips. The most interesting one, if you plan garden beds, for flowers or vegetables or whatever, look up hugelculture beds, especially since IIRC you live somewhere hot - you bury logs, branches, whatever in your bed, and it's really good for moisture retention and adding some extra nutrients to your bed. Also, your pruned branches just disappear.

Planted more herbs and three currant bushes. Super tired, but going to shower and stretch out before bed. Happy start to the challenge, rangers!
  13. AmayaDances

    Amaya Buckles Down

I’m excited to jump into this challenge! I have, for the next few months, one big mission: survive Ren Fest. Background: my dance troupe and I have taken a bit of a hiatus (a year-ish) from performing and regular rehearsals, following a loooooot of changes in our membership in a short amount of time. I was still teaching classes, but my fire had really gone out to be honest, and I lost a majority of my stamina in that time. Flashing forward to today, my fire has since been rekindled, and I’ve been working to regain that stamina. Earlier this year, one of my students mentioned that there is a new Ren Fest in our area - this will be its first year! So, we auditioned, and were offered a gig - 5 sets a day, all 8 weekends if we were available, starting in July. Daunting, but I’m always ready for a challenge! Just to be clear, I’m not starting from the bottom now (only a little over a month before shows start!), but I am ready to kick it up a notch! I’ve already made some significant changes: eating more mindfully, more frequent/serious practice sessions, and more walking and general activity. So, with that big picture in sight, my goals for this challenge are: - Embrace the schedule: I don’t know why I am so averse to an actual daily schedule, but it’s time to face that head on. There are, of course, two pieces to this: creating the schedule, then following through. - Confront the gym: I mean, I already pay for the membership, so I really should start actually using it! For this goal, going to the gym twice a week will be a success. (That’s, of course, in addition to any and all in-studio workouts.) - Engage the mind: This is mostly to keep from losing myself and burning out. If I focus on working out and practicing and nothing else, I know that I’ll burn out. Best to avoid that! For this goal, I want to focus on setting aside time everyday for reading, because I find it relaxing and mentally-replenishing. Bonus benefit: this creates some unplugged time, which I’m also always in need of. So, time to get serious! I can’t promise daily updates, but a few a week to be sure. I’ll be logging everything in my physical journal, so there will certainly be a record!

Watch the Queen Conquer - Nic Tackles Her Goals

Nic approached the Raiders' camp at the Rebellion base. It was a small camp, but she knew she'd stand out just by being there because they didn't know her. Not that she got far. "Not so fast, stranger," a voice behind her growled. Cold steel touched her throat-- she hadn't even noticed anyone around her. "Who are you?" The voice demanded. "I'm Nic," she said. "Nic... Ranger? From the Highlands Ranger Guild?" The blade retreated from her neck. "We've been expecting you." She spun around at that, looking at her attacker. Nic came face-to-face with the infamous Meera Nighthawk, leader of the Mar'saat Raiders. Meera continued, "Bev sent a raven, letting us know you were on the way. Any trouble on the way?" She started walking back to the camp. Starting, Nic followed behind and updated her on her journey, including the ambush that she faced and her back injury. "Back injury, huh? We'll get you checked out by our healer. They're a whiz at getting us up and running." Meera was right. After setting up in a spare tent at the base, Nic went to see the healer who had her fixed up and ready to go. After leaving the healer's hut, she was greeted by another one of the raiders. He nodded gruffly at her. "The name's Bjorn. Meera asked me to bring you to the planning meeting." He started walking. Nic followed and they entered another hut. Meera and the rest of the Raiders were there. Upon seeing Nic, Meera stopped and said "everyone, this is Nic. She's on loan to us to help us out while Riley and Cha'el are healing." With that, Meera laid out the plan. The Raiders would run to the port and intercept the supplies they needed from a shipment going to reinforce the forces of Warlord Dzanai. Then they'd run back to the base, and prepare to deliver the supplies to villages under seige. "Rest up, everyone," Meera announced. "Tomorrow it begins." Well, that's 0 week! Not the most productive week, but my back and hips are feeling better. Still tight, but the stretching has been helping. I'm kicking off the official start of the challenge with the Murph! I won't be doing pull-ups in the morning since I'll be doing 100 (banded) during the challenge. I had maybe some success on the apartment hunting front. Put in a pre-application for an apartment to get a tour. Hopefully I'll hear back from the realtor soon and get a tour set up. It's pretty late, so that's it for now. Happy challenge, all!

Teirin's standards have never been lower.....

Saturday was too busy, which is why that one was optional. Got lots done at least. Nice greens from the market too <3 Sunday Workout - sorted, albeit without burpees. I left it too late and it would have been too loud over the neighbours. I may have also just not done it with them. Spent time on a videogame event in FFXIV (crossover with FFXV involving a sweet 4 person car mount and Noctis' outfit). Also read some Numenera stuff and started plotting out a trial one-shot to see how the system works. Minimum goals have been met. Well enough. I have to use this

I've never done it before! I think it should take me the full hour, since I'll be running it in my combat boots and I'll be splitting it into sets. Hooray! Welcome! You too!

Snarky Tests her “If I could”s

Thank you! By sheer luck, my dad met a woman who organizes events for the blind community here, as well as a mens support group and a womens support group. Shes not affiliated with the association for the blind, but she and some other folks saw a need and filled it. The mens support group alternates between being helpful and not helpful. But its been good for Dad to meet other guys and say “public bathrooms suck!” But you are so right! Its hard to find adequate resources and internet is not visually impaired friendly.

Banker boxes saved me during this mess. Strong and uniform in size, stack really good. I bought a lot of them and they have been serving me well. This is true. I'm trying to get Friday off a get another full day of prep before the sale on Saturday. Thank you.

Whisper Grows Up, Cuts the Crap and Learns to Sleep!

Decided to do as little as I possibly could without screwing myself over tomorrow. I had someone with access to a pickup truck willing to help me move the last of the furniture I wanted to keep to the basement I'm renting. Went to storage and got that stuff staged outside while waiting for them, then packed the stuff I had to more out, back in again. With the furniture out, there's enough room in the storage unit for me to work on it tomorrow no matter how much rain comes. Got stuff placed downstairs, got my bed cleared off again, and declared that plenty for today. Visited and played cards with the couple I'm renting from and one of my friends for the rest of the afternoon, had supper and just about ready to call it a night. I'm going to follow my sleep routine and timing tonight, but I'm killing all my alarms; I can sleep in tomorrow if that is what I need right now, and if I wake up on time feeling rested, that's fine too. I'm going to relax some more in the morning and not head out to the storage until after 9. Saturday: Whisper Grows Up Checked off all non-sleep habits and put a full day into the storage unit. Cut the Crap! 2,773 cals, 50% fat, 23% pro, 27% carbs. There was ice cream after bedtime. Fitbit also says I burned 7,404 cals that day, so maybe not the end of the world. Learn to Sleep Critical failure: couldn't sleep, phone came on, then the laptop. Sleep 12:34 to 6:04. 4 hr 46 min asleep, 43 min awake.
