Seleas-June Challenge-Battle Log

Recommended Posts

Signed up on June 4th, so I'll take that as day 1 with a late start.

Day 1

I drank 1 coke (20oz.) refilled the bottle once with water, and had 5 cups of hot black tea (plain).

No situps were completed upon waking up, as I had not signed up yet.  Upon going to bed I was able to complete 30 before I could only struggle but make no progress to complete more.

Dinner was Chinese food.

Have not yet looked at what I need to get the bike working.

It's the natives... They're firing arrows at us.

I'll edit as I go so I don't forget important things.

Day 2 -

Only completed 27 situps today before I couldn't do anything but struggle.  I expected this though.  I'm still recovering from last night's situps and going forward I'll continue to struggle to complete more, and sometimes complete less.  The important thing at this point is that I'm doing them.  Still plenty of time to get to my A rating by the end of the challenge.  Finished only 10 at night.  My gut really hurts.  Found out I'm doing them wrong, and I'm going to start doing them every other day because I am in worse shape than I thought.  Do not want to cause any permanent damage.

Drank a 17 oz. Propel for breakfast and a second one later.  Drank half a quart of water, and a soda.

Dinner is still an off day.

No actions taken on the bike today.

Day 3 -

Today I skipped situps.

Drank the other half of a quart of water.  Drank 3 propels and a soda.

Off day for dinner again.

Day 4 - June 7

Completed 4 sit ups doing them the correct way.

Drank a propel and 5 sodas today...  I'm slipping.  Can't let this be a fail though.

For dinner I made turkey chili.  I used turkey, a full red pepper, a full green pepper, crushed tomatoes, and spices.  Did not add much salt.  Turned out very tasty.  I'll have to review the Paleo diet to see how this qualifies.  But I cooked for myself, and I am proud of this!  ^_^

Today I bought two innertubes, a bike pump, and a chain lube for the bike.  After removing the tires, and changing out the innertubes I found the bike pump doesn't seem to work for them...  Will have to go back to the store tomorrow for direction/replacement.

Off day for situps.

1.5 cups of non-caffinated tea, and about 4 cups of water.  At work I drank a soda, and then on the way home, to keep myself awake (literally) I drank a second one.

Chili was so yummy I had it for lunch as well.  Love being able to cook and eat for days!

On the bike goal:  I returned to the store and they showed me how to change the applicator end of the bike pump to work for my bike, and filled up the tire I provided.  Anyone in Central Florida, I recommend Bike Works near 50 (E. Colonial) and Econolocatchee Trail.  As it appeared to be getting ready to rain, I quickly mowed the front yard, and immediately set to working on the bike.  Worked up quite a sweat between the two activities.

Both tires are now inflated and attached.  Later I'll reattach the quick release breaks and lube the chain.  This bike will have to service for a while, but I can definitely see where it is in less than recommended shape.  The rims are rusted in places, with minor rust on the spokes.  The tires are covered in cobwebs, there are a few rust spots on the frame.  Oh well.  It will be a while before I can afford to replace it.  If I maintain it though, it should still last long enough.

Day 6 - June 9

28 situps today.  My abdominal muscles seem to have finally healed up from my early exertions.  I'm sure I can do this, and when I get used to doing the situps regularly, I'll return to daily.

2 cups of caffeine free tea with local honey for immune support.  Another bad day, and realized I'm also a social drinker.  Visited a friend who I didn't see in a while and had a soda while I was there.  2 more sodas later and a hot tea.

Off day for dinner, but I'll have some more chili today as well.

Today I reconnect the speed release brakes and go for my first ride in years.  Already have my route planned.  Depending on how long it takes me to complete it, I might run it a second time.  Adjusted the breaks and took the bike out for a spin.  I see the brakes will need more work, and I had to remove the kickstand that was broken.  The handlebars are slightly crooked, but work.  The seat is cracked and split, but still comfortable.  Thanks to the brakes, I was able to get in resistance training...

Day 7 - June 10

Off day for situps.

2 cups of water, 3 sodas today.  I think I'm rationalizing my decision for soda too much.  I think I may actually be addicted to soda.

Off day for dinner.  Last day I had any of the wonderful chili.  I miss it already.  ;-;

Mother nature intervened today and I was unable to ride the bike today.

Week 2 Day 1 - June 11

I'm late posting, and I now realize I completely missed doing situps on this day...  No, I didn't miss them... Bah.  I just realized because of my sleeping schedule My challenge days are out of whack.  Have to not be late in posting instead...

36 situps today.  A while ago I would have given up at 31, because they got very hard to do.  But I gave the effort I have been giving since starting this challenge and was able to force out 5 more before being unable to complete any more.  My abdominal strength and stamina are improving in this regard.

3 sodas today, no tea, no water...  This is going to be the challenge that kills me.  Updating it to add 1 stamina as well, because if I can come back and not fail this, then my willpower will have been made stronger...

Off day for dinner.

Working on the brakes for the bike some to try and stabilize them, and I plan to go on that bike ride later.  Will edit in further results later on.

Oh my.  The brakes were nearly rotted out.  I went to make adjustments and part of them snapped off in my hand.  I'm glad I wasn't on the road when this happened...

Week 2 Day 2 - June 12

Off day for situps.

3 sodas again today.  I'm not sure where my willpower goes when it comes to this challenge.  I swear I think of getting water or tea and find a soda in my hand.  It's very disconcerting.  I could definitely use some advice on this issue.

Off day for dinner.

No progress on the bike today.

Week 2 Day 3 - June 13

Forgot to do my situps today when I woke up.

I've had 3 sodas so far.

Off day for dinner.

Bought a rear brake and brake line.  Can not afford to replace the front one at this time.  After replacing the brake and line (first time ever mind you) I took the bike for a test run.  The brake works as it is supposed to!  Yay me!  I disovered the tires need truing though.  One more issue to handle, but I'm learning a lot about bike maintenance.  Thank you OmHawk and Nerd Fitness!

I can't give up.  I did give up, but I can't just give up completely.  The only thing I didn't give up on was the bicycle.  I enjoy the bicycle, even if I can't use it more than 15 minutes yet due to reduced stamina from when I used to ride for hours to and from work.

26 situps today.

Soda is my vice.  I'll try to reduce my intake, but this one might be well beyond my willpower level to complete at this time.

Slept all day and did not have time for a bike ride today.

Did not have time to cook.

Not sure where the extra fatigue is coming from.  Slept 12 hours twice this week.

45 situps.  I felt so good when I blew past my old record for this challenge.  I believe I can get there.  Change is possible in life, this alone speaks volumes toward my goals.  Now I just need to redirect some of this momentum into my other goals.

Did not ride my bike today.

Drank 3 sodas today.  While not good, better than it has been lately.  I can cut out soda.  I'll just have to look for what and why I do it.

36 Situps today.  Fluctuation in quantity is to be expected considering my change from years of sedentary lifestyle.  I'm sure the next set will increase again.

No bike ride today.  Rainy all day.

Forgot my sit-ups today.

Rode the bike, worked up a light sweat as usual.  Still don't have the leg strength to make it longer than 15-20 minutes yet.  Always feel like I'm walking on logs after these rides.

Off day for cooking.

51 sit-ups today!  At 47 I ran out of steam, but was able to push through on a second attempt.  Those last 4 were a pain, but I was able to do them!

No bike ride today.

Off day for cooking.

I can grade myself no higher than F on any of my goals except bike riding which will be a D if I keep this up.  But the ability to reach my situp A goal though having lost complete faith in my ability to change anything means I might still have a long way to go, but the final boss is one imp closer.
