Dobroverich Posted May 13, 2010 Report Posted May 13, 2010 Hi. I'm Ashley. I'm 24. I'm a marine biologist and right now I work on seismic boats in the Gulf of Mexico (soon to be in the Arctic). I was directed to this site by my friend Susan. She sent me the link and I got distracted and spent a while just looking around. It's a pretty awesome site, so I thought I'd introduce myself. My biggest weight/diet problems are: 1. I love food. And 2. I love naps (or just sitting around with a book). I want to make changes that I can live with, not some crazy crash diet that makes me hate my life. I've already (mostly) given up soda (or pop, whichever you prefer) and am working on portion control. I spent 5 weeks on a boat with two girls who were a little obsessive about what they ate. They would skip meals and make comments if someone would eat something delicious like ice cream. And it made me self conscious because both of those girls were way smaller than me. That's not a way I want to live though. I don't want to feel guilty about wanting to eat ice cream, but instead of eating half the container, I'll have a smaller portion. I also need to work on putting down my book or turning off my computer and getting up off my butt and go outside. (Though sometimes that's just miserable in Florida) So, yeah. I haven't made any specific goals yet... just to stop being lazy and to stop eating everything I see. Seems simple enough. Quote
Sethbacca Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 You sound like you're in the same situation my gf was in when she started her lifestyle changes. She switched from mostly processed foods to whole foods, so if it isn't cooked in this house she doesn't eat it. As to napping, I'd say nothing wrong with that, so long as you're balancing it out by doing some exercise. Also, it's never a good idea to compare yourself to someone else, just find a reasonable goal for your body type and start there Doing this she has lost about 13 pounds in 5 weeks. You tend to eat a lot less when your focus is on nutritious foods rather than just finding pre-process low calorie foods. Quote
titsworth Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 Welcome! Glad to have you!If you can afford it. I say get a subscription to Audible. Instead of sitting and reading, you can walk/run/bike outside (or on a machine) while listening to a book. You still get that book fix, and you don't have to feel so guilty for that ice cream. Susan Brooks Posted May 15, 2010 Report Posted May 15, 2010 #1 You're awesome #2 I feel the same way about H & K. I can't live like that. If you live that way, when will you eat mac and cheese? Quote
