sarabamanda
Whooo! I'm Sara, first introduced here. I'm a mom-of-two who never lost the baby weight, living in Japan where even the men are the size of my left thigh. Let's jump right into the preliminary battle conference before my Day 1 tomorrow! My motivation is multifaceted, and sometimes dorky. I'm 28, and recognize that now is when I set myself up for a healthy future. I'd love to give my body the best chance it has to stay disease free. I want to give my kids a strong foundation in health and fitness, and realize I won't be able to hide my evening ice cream binges from them forever. I vainly want to be the hott gaijin in the sea of skinny Japanese women. And really, I'd just love to know I'm sexy for my husband. Beginning stats(Height: 5'2")Weight: 161lbsBust: 39.5"Waist: 34.5"Hips: 43.5"Right arm: 12"Right thigh: 26.5" Initial goalsI constantly burn myself out by pushing too much too early. My initial food goals are to increase veggie and meat intake (finally found a store over here with affordable frozen veggies... total game changer) and to stop telling myself that I've earned sweets by exercising. I'm gonna keep the morning coffee as an option because it just makes me feel good, but will be conscious of whether I actually do want it on any particular morning, or if I'm just grabbing it out of habit. As far as exercise, I walk my daughter to and from youchien every day, allowing me to easily average over 10,000 steps per day, which is great. I'll add in three days a week of the Beginner Body Weight workout. General goalsGain strength, not be a flabby mom, feel great in my own skin for the first time ever. Guys, I'm pumped! Especially to have such a great platform for accountability. I love connecting, so please feel free to post on here any time! I'll probably log at least every couple days, and I'd love to have you along with me! GaijinMom | MyFitnessPal | FitBit | Twitter Link to comment
sarabamanda
Got up at 5 and did the Beginner Body Weight Workout this morning! Wow! Pushups still suck. Lunges got surprisingly hard; I was stumbling like a drunk toward the end. All in all I'm pretty happy with it. It's enough variety to keep me on my toes, so to speak, but not long enough to make me quit. It's only 6:45am here so I've got the whole day ahead of me, but I feel ready for it! sarabamanda
Day 1 is complete! 5am: wakeup, eat half a banana5:30: Beginner Body Weight Workout6:00: two scrambled eggs and a piece of toast, coffee with milk, sugar, and coconut oil8:30: walk daughter to youchien, approx. 5000 steps round trip, drink Vitamin water throughout the morning (holy cow that's a lotta carbs)12:30: 150g chicken tenderloin, peas, pumpkin, and homemade sweet tea (sugar, but not a terrible amount)1:30: walk to pick up daughter, approx. 5000 steps round trip5:30: homemade curry rice with carrots, eggplant, and pork Not perfect, but certainly not bad. I definitely won't be buying Vitamin water again... got it on a whim and wasn't impressed. I want to be conscious of how much I'm moving throughout the entire day. Some days are great, some days I sit for hours. What are your go-to quick snacks? GaijinMom | MyFitnessPal | FitBit | Twitter Link to comment
sarabamanda
Day 2 Holy moly am I sore from yesterday. Good grief. I'm debating whether I should do the workout again tomorrow, or give myself another rest day from it, just right here at the beginning where my body is screaming "WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME???" I know as time goes on I won't be so sore in between, so doing it every other day won't be an issue... What are your thoughts? When someone is just starting out, should they take longer rests at first? 5:20: wake up, coffee with milk, sugar, coconut oil7:30: small blueberry pancake9:00: walk daughter to youchien, 5000 steps round trip10:30: apple with pb211:30: 100g chicken tenderloin, pumpkin, homemade sweet tea12:00: walk to pick up daughter, 5000 steps round trip6:00: 100g pork loin, japanese rice, lots of okra7:00: greek yogurt with honey and scarce dark chocolate chips Tomorrow morning I'll get up and assess my muscle situation, either doing the BBWW or yoga. Jittersthe.Clown
I started with the BBWW and gave myself one day in between, regardless of how I felt. I would recommend listening to your body, though. You know yourself best. Yoga might be a good in between BBWW days to stretch out. Stay hydrated and have fun. Glad to have you with the Rebellion, Sara. sarabamanda
Haha! The first set was a little bit rough, but during the next two I kept thinking, "I'm so glad I did this. I'm so glad I did this." Bonus win: While shaving my legs in the shower this morning, I could totally feel muscle after just two days of the workout. REALLY happy to be able to notice small progress early on. Seriously though, I really do appreciate the encouragement. Eating went alright yesterday. I went to a friend's house and she served homemade sponge cake, and later in a wicked rush of busyness/hunger I ended up eating about 10 cheese puffs because I was starving, but I didn't get hung up on it and still ended the day on good terms. Today is balancing it out, as I planned ahead so I wouldn't mindlessly raid the pantry. Obvious as it seems, I've been kind of surprised at how the calories just work out when you're eating real food. Totally easy to stay within a reasonable range, which is awesome. What's your favorite smoothie recipe? GaijinMom | MyFitnessPal | FitBit | Twitter Link to comment
sarabamanda
Finished my third BBWW this morning! That completes the first MWF round! The soreness has faded pretty well and it making way for feeling great!! Just as a personal high five, I'm really proud of myself for doing all three workouts this week without cheating, cutting corners, or making excuses. That's kind of a big deal for me, a serial giver-upper. Eating is still going great, I rocked it yesterday and don't foresee any immediate issues. Excited to be reaching the conclusion of this first week! GaijinMom | MyFitnessPal | FitBit | Twitter Link to comment

sarabamanda
Well here's an unexpected side quest: We just found out I'm pregnant! This is actually beneficial as far as eating, in that I tend to care far more about what my kids are taking in than myself. Thoughts on the Beginner's Body Weight Workout while pregnant? What should I take into consideration? Is there anything I should modify? GaijinMom | MyFitnessPal | FitBit | Twitter Link to comment

hblyne
Congratulations!! Pregnancy shouldn't change your exercise routine particularly, it's really important to remain mobile and fit, but you probably won't want to start doing anything too strenuous that your body isn't used to, such as lifting heavy weights. If you build up gradually and sensibly though, there is no reason not to continue with a new fitness regime. I'm not a health practitioner, btw, but am a birth educator and peer supporter. sarabamanda
Thanks you guys! I went ahead and tried the workout this morning and felt glad that I did afterwards! I can feel a little strain in my lower abdomen with the pushups and planks, so I'll be paying attention to my form just to make sure I'm not doing anything I shouldn't. Thank you for the input, hblyne! Stupid story: Our first two kids were conceived while we were actively trying not to get pregnant, so we figured actually trying this time would be easy breezy. As such, I decided to eat whatever I wanted until we got pregnant, then start eating better (I tend to care way more about what my kids eat than I do), assuming it would be a month tops. Six months and 10 pounds later, I finally decided I'd better just assume it's not gonna happen anytime soon and start eating well for me. Sure enough, a week later I was knocked up. sarabamanda
I like it! They're 5 and 3, but I think I'll share it anyway. Came down with what the kids had and have eaten just Ritz and toast the last two days, BUT I got that workout in yesterday before I realized I was sick. Thinking I'll swap my Friday workout to Saturday, for an extra day of recovery. GaijinMom | MyFitnessPal | FitBit | Twitter Link to comment

sarabamanda
Thank you! We're so happy! Jitters, I actually haven't seen that myself! Worth looking into? I need encouragement. After getting sick this week, I ended up just skipping my Friday workout altogether, and I've barely gotten off the couch. I know it's gonna take a lot of motivation to get me going again on Monday. Remind me how great I'll feel at 8 months when I don't look like Jabba the Hutt! GaijinMom | MyFitnessPal | FitBit | Twitter Link to comment
hblyne
The exhaustion in the early weeks and months can be awful, I totally empathise. But staying fit and healthy is really worth it for a more straightforward pregnancy and birth. You can do it, but don't be hard on yourself if you need to rest xx Battle Log - Record from the Front Lines http://hblyne.com Link to comment
