Maybe a Silly question...

Recommended Posts

But I can't seem to find the answer on the boards. I am pretty close to my goal weight atm but I amt hinking I may want to change it. Right now I am at 21% Body Fat. I am 5ft1 tall and I weigh about 120 pounds. I am thinking I might be more comfortable sitting around 115 pounds. I know there are many posts on here about not losing Lean Muscle while losing weight but since 5 pounds isn't really much I am curious to know how it applies in small amounts like this? Do I just continue the work out I am doing and just cut some calories to get to 115?

Sorry If this answer is somewhere on these boards and I cannot find it. I also feel silly asking soe many questions when I haven't been here a week yet.

All depends on what your regime is currently for maintaining.

Your best bet, would probably go into a cutting mode.

Keep up your weight training, drop a little bit of daily calorie intake, and increase cardio a little bit more.

That would be the safest bet if you are near where you want to be, and want to cut some fat, while maintaining muscle mass, albeit it will be a slower drop than just losing "weight" persay.

Right now my cardio routine is this:

Mon wed fri: 30-45 minutes steady state cardio. (I have been running 3 miles on those days to get ready for my 5k this weekend)

tues thurs: 15 minutes interval.. usually 20seconds/20seconds

so If I am going to increase cardio do i just add another 15 minutes of steady state cardio on Tues/thursday?

Honestly, I'd switch your interval training and your steady state cardio.

Try to add maybe 25 seconds on, 20 off on intervals, and for steady state, once you have your 5k complete, look at your runs in terms of distance, versus time. That's a good tipping point. So state, you will achieve 3.5 miles, or you will achieve 3 miles faster than before.

This also means, interval training will be much more a p.i.t.a. but it will also work a lot better in conjunction with speeding up your times during a cutting phase without doing ultra long distance. Once you are out of a cutting phase, and you are wanting to add distance, switch back.
