Zorch
Hi - I'm new here, and one of my reasons for coming here is to particpate in some of the challenges, and hopefully give myself some accountability by putting my goals out there for an audience to see. I have an interesting history in terms of fitness: Back in high school I was a high-school tennis player. Quite successful overall, but in retrospect, not nearly as good as I could have been had I been more disciplined in my nutrition and offseason training. I've been all over the map weight-wise. I've been as high as 275 lbs, as low as 166(which, at my height of 6'6", is freakishly thin), and am currently at ~182, working towards adding muscle and getting to a lean, strong 190-195 lbs in the near term, and will re-evaluate once I reach that point. I'd say that physically, this year I've been in the best shape of my life, but I've still got a ways to go to get where I want to be. I do have some history of low back issues, but I'm working through those right now. For my day job, I'm an engineer. Over the past 5 1/2 years, I've spent approximately half my time in Asia(China/Japan), and half my time in the U.S. doing development work. I used to be a gamer, but am more of a "semi-retired gamer" now - due primarily to time constraints. Quote "Restlessness is discontent - and discontent is the first necessity of progress. Guest Snake McClain
Zorch, there is so much information and so many tools on this site to lead you in the right direction. You should have no problem reaching your goals if you're motivated and stick through it. I'm curious as an engineer....I'll be starting school next year to get an associates in mechanical engineering technology (no bachelor's on the agenda yet). Can you give me any advice? Like...I keep trying to find what the day to day work for an engineer or tech is and NO ONE can give me any kind of answer. I just have no where to go for this. Any thoughts? Quote Link to comment
The Tin Man
Hey Bruce, as a mechanical engineer I can jump in here. There is a massive range of what a mechanical engineer can do. I work for the in product design in the consumer branch of an audio company. My group designs all the plastic and metal parts that make up the product. This includes grills, endcaps, internal support structures, placing the circuit boards, mounting the speakers, etc. We then build prototypes, test them to see what went wrong, and refine the design. Then there's my engineer friend who worked for an international energy company going all over the world work on-site doing natural gas collection. Any more specific questions? Feel free to PM me as well. Quote The Tin Man: Cyborg Ranger Tin Man's Out of Date Epic Quest I am what I do. Link to comment
