livingroovy Posted December 5, 2011 Report Posted December 5, 2011 Hey all, I'm Kate. I've been reading this blog for awhile, and just started posting recently in order to take part in the most recent 6-week challenge. I love it. Challenging the mind and body are at the absolute core of who I am, and this community is so supportive and inspiring! My life and goals:Me:Age: 23Height: 5'8"Weight: 165 lbs (I'm more interested in body fat % and how my clothes fit though...I've lost less than 10 pounds in the past year but have dropped 3 sizes as my body composition changes and I've been getting stronger)Location: Denver, COOutlook: Positive and Inspired. Life is absolutely wondrous and the possibilities are infinite. Fitness:Currently:I teach yoga and cycle classes, and am barre and sculpt trained. This job and a lot of people I interact with are very fitness oriented, which is amazing. I workout/do classes on average 5 days per week. I am in pretty good shape but I have so many possible steps to take in life and I often feel like I'm just beginning!I play competitive ultimate frisbee, though I am currently on a bit of a break as I rehab essentially my entire body and focus on other things. But it's my favorite so I'll be back!Goals: (SO MANY!)Run a marathon, thenComplete a full IronmanDo 100+ pushups in a row, whenever I feel like itHold a good form plank for 5+ minutesHandstand in the middle of the room for 1+ minute, thenBecome a champion slackliner and be able to do handstand pushups on a slackline. (I just got over my fear of handstands less than 2 months ago, so this is a 'someday sort of situation!) Check out these guys, they are my heroes: Team YogaSlackersYoga: Be able to do full hanumanasana (splits) on each sideYoga: Be able to do any arm balance and inversion without assistance or the wall.Learn to rock climb and become a total bad-ass at it.Diet:Currently:Predominantly Vegan. I have been vegan for 3+ years now, and it is very woven in to my life philosophy.I average 70-85g of protein per day, occasionally take Iron, B12, Calcium, and Vitamin D2 supplements, and on any given day eat between 1600 and 2300 calories.Goals:[*]Move away from processed foods. I am pretty healthy but I definitely eat way too many items like crackers, bread, bagels, jarred/canned sauces, meat and dairy substitutes, and sometimes frozen or microwaveable meals. DONE. I eat like a rockstar now.Incorporate more recipes from The Thrive Diet into my food intake. I used this as a resource when I first became vegan and was training for a half marathon, and it was SO helpful and I felt amazing.Life:This could be a whole separate post...Currently:Teaching yoga, cycle-yoga, barre, kettlebell, and kids yoga classes.Nannying 7-10 hours a week.Design and Marketing point person for Qi Athletic Clubs and Yoga Studios, where I teach.Loving all of them.Goals (Short-list):Teach 8-10 yoga/fitness classes per week. (Currently at 7...had 9 for awhile but schedules fluctuate)Be paid well to be design/marketing director of Qi. Getting paid now!!! If not 'well'Travel at minimum one month per year. (2012: 3 weeks in Europe and 1 in Costa Rica!)Finish developing a program for teens involving yoga/movement, meditation, art/creativity, media-literacy, and sex education that will be available in schools and online.Play an entire season of ultimate frisbee without getting injured.Get paid to write and create art.Okay that was a lot. I just get so excited! Great to be a part of Nerd Fitness. The Tin Man Posted December 12, 2011 Report Posted December 12, 2011 Always good to summarize, both for yourself and for others! I think you'll be excited to hear that my only exercise-related goal for my December mini-challenge is yoga to go along with a few life centering and simplification goals. And the way you killed it with the pushups is inspiring to me in the "I can't believe I let her pass me" sort of way. Quote The Tin Man: Cyborg Ranger Tin Man's Out of Date Epic Quest I am what I do.
Tom Kenobi Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Kate, hope things are going well for you. Drop a line now and then, let your Rebel friends know how you are doing! Quote "First, decide who you would be and then do what you must do." ~Epictetus
The Tin Man Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Agreed! I occasionally stop by your profile hoping to see that "Latest Activity" date change. Quote The Tin Man: Cyborg Ranger Tin Man's Out of Date Epic Quest I am what I do.
Sco Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 That link = AWESOME. Never heard of them before, but I'm now a fan. I love slacklining, even though I can only walk forwards (and occasionally backwards) as of now. So much fun! Quote "We are what we repeatedly do. livingroovy Posted February 5, 2012 Author Report Posted February 5, 2012 Aww you guys are the best!!! Don't worry- I'm back! I was surprisingly spending very little time on the internet the past month...I missed you! I'm going to start a Blog this week with my 2012 goals and will hop on board the next challenge for sure! Also, some life updates:*Quit my restaurant job and am now a part time nanny- I make the same amount of money but have more time for myself and my own work!*Started playing ultimate again- so far, so good!*Staying in Costa Rica for 2 weeks, not 1!*Starting gymnastics classes at the training center I work at...super freaked out but the hard work will be amazing.*Diet is getting better- more whole/raw foods and more nutrient-dense. Feel GREAT.*Was given the opportunity to create a summer program for teens involving yoga. It's going to be day camp style, and I am so so so excited. As soon as I figure out how this site is working now, you'll be hearing more from me!! livingroovy Posted February 6, 2012 Author Report Posted February 6, 2012 @StrengthIsBeauty Thank you so much lovely! Likewise to you. And I love your name...it is so true. The first week in Costa Rica will be spent on the Osa Peninsula for a yoga training and retreat with my teachers at Qi. The second week my boyfriend (who is working on becoming a yoga teacher right now) and I will be wandering around, no set plans, open to suggestions! Have you been? StrengthIsBeauty Posted February 6, 2012 Report Posted February 6, 2012 I have not yet. One day, but I'm planning on visiting India in November to celebrate Diwali this year 8^) Post pics when you return 8^D I'm glad you like the name I chose. I picked it because I'm sick of getting self conscious when some people around me give me negative feedback about the body changes I experience as I get stronger (and some of my "squishy/girly parts" shrink) ;^P Quote Run Loba, Run
