oystergirl
I love forums...I realize that when people come together on forums they usually have a common interest and that draws them together and makes everyone think they are of like minds and that is sometimes far from the truth. We all have different life experience, hobbies, loves, beliefs etc and thats what makes us unique. I thought it would be fun to share a little bit more about ourselves and maybe we will find some nerdy similarities! You don't have to post all about your life at once...just share some fun stuff if you could!I am a palmist and I read energy. It is a lot of fun and I freak people out with it a lot.I am Greek and English, both my parents are immigrants and my father speaks 5 languages and has lived in China, Japan, north and south vietnam, france and the US.I adore baseball and especially the red sox and can talk smack with the best of them...I caught a foul ball clean in the bread basket off alex cora in an ALDS game 2 years ago...it is on my mantle.I adore classic cars and my dream car is a 57 chevy belair nomad. I have had a mercury cougar and a 66 mustang but currently am classic carless.I adore rock and roll and have good friends in a number of classic rock bands and I go out on tour whenever I can with friends from all over the world.I have two parrots, a cat, a dog, two gold fish and two african water frogs. I love pets!I love to garden and I can pick up any bug at all and am not freaked out by them EXCEPT cockroaches because I had a freaky situation happen with them when I was working In NYC (will tell that one at a later date!)I basically grew up on a sail boat, raced amateur level as a kid and teen and have been on a sail boat during a hurricane.I was a cheerleader...Ok, who is next? ebm1224
hmmm what to share?i got a dual degree in real estate and sociology. these seem like opposite fields but they really have alot in common. i currently work for a realty company in accounts payable but most of my work experience has been in property management (i was a leasing agent for apartment complexes) and i'd perhaps like to get back into that after this position ends (in about 3 months when someone comes back from maternity leave).i am a "project person." as in, i get restless if i don't have projects to do, events to plan, etc. i have organized vacations, planned yard sales, redecorated rooms, etc. currently, i need to finish up repainting a bathroom and i want to do some landscaping in our yard.i love stand up comedy. some of my favorite comics are robin williams, chris rock, and demitri martin.i have been told that my laugh puts people at ease i have a very self-depricating sense of humor.i am jewish (reform) and have visited israel once with the birthright organization.i am a real estate nerd and love to look at old houses and buildings. i also pick up a flyer for every for-sale house i see.my goal is to own my own ice cream shop one day. this is fun Quote Link to comment

Grosby
Let's see,I'm a teacher aide in real life, which doesn't sound like a career or anything too special but I put a lot of my time into it - knowing I get the "remedial" students who need a lot of extra work, who are left behind or too difficult to be dealt with in a whole-class setting.. I'm currently studying my Diploma of Education Support which my school paid for (because I AM damn good at my job) to get a bit more validation for what I do.. if only it paid more *mutter*I have two kiddlies, a 5 year old who is the spitting image of his father, he's growing up a little too fast, and a 2 year old daughter who looks a lot more like me, she's as cheeky as you can get. They're fun Often we're seen all together on the couch after work - they both like to sit -on- me. My first born is actually my dog.. who is adorable but a complete nutter. I'd love to take her for runs with me but she's SHOCKING at being on the lead and has tripped me, in front of traffic, more than once.Behind me sits my sewing machine which hasn't been used much since i started my diploma course, but I love making clothes for the kids, especially repurposing old clothes - cutting up my dad's ugly shirts and making them into cute dresses for my daughter is awesome. I got my sewing machine a year ago and am self-taught... and pretty good if i do say so myself. I can't wait for life/study to settle down a bit (finish in June) so I can get back my sew-jo.I don't really have another hobby.. I tried to knit, crochet and all that stuff but nup, just doesn't do it for me. I have a great visual memory but I'm not so good with colour-matching and creative stuff like scrap-booking and card-making.I love crime shows with quirks. Dexter and Breaking Bad are my favourites. I don't watch movies very often, if at all. I tend to fall asleep. I just don't have the attention span for more than an hour (and even then!)Onto family, I'm the baby of the family, but the only one married/with kids. My siblings both live in different parts of the country. My parents are kiwis, I was born in Australia so I fence sit as to which I claim is my nationality Depends on who's winning the rugby (generally I'm Kiwi then ;p) Quote Link to comment
MollytheMO
I think it's hilarious how the women's responses are multi-paragraphed, and the guys are all one-liners. XDWell, I ride/train my horse when it's not too cold, and have entertained the idea of endurance riding someday. (It's the 'someday' part that gets me...sigh.)Grosby, I love repurposing clothing...it's the main reason I got into sewing. 8D But I like to knit/crochet etc as well.My boyfriend got me into Lord of the Rings Online, and while I love it I'm still taking a hiatus for a bit. Can't wait to get back to it though...I gotta keep the nerdy gamer front somehow, right?? But in the meantime I have to finish my classes first, and learning medical terminologies + Lotro = bad grades. Alas. Quote Multifaceted Obsessionist Link to comment

Waldo
I love photography. I don't do it as much anymore, I used to go looking for shots, now I let them come to me. Still, if I find myself in a place I haven't been before (work training is always awesome for it) I can end up taking thousands of shots. I've actually made a fair amount of side money as an amateur. My poor son, he's not even 10 mo, but between my wife and I he's had >15,000 pictures taken of him, plus hours of video.Brewing beer is a hobby of mine. I haven't done it much as of late, I kinda stopped liking ales for some reason and don't have the equipment to brew a lager. Though I'm getting closer, I got a precision temperature controller for my smoker which can double as a lagering thermostat. Now I just need a fridge big enough to hold a 5 gallon carboy and I'm back in business, I have the rest of the equipment. Though I'd like to get a kegging system again, bottling is a PITA. In college my roomate and I build an awesome brewing setup, in the end we split it brewing supplies and kegging equipment, he got the kegging equipment and I really miss it.I'm a football (american) junkie. Big time. Except right now. My Packers had a rather devastating end to the season that I'm trying to cope with. History, stats, the draft, fantasy, ...everything.Other than that I'm pretty much nerd. Marlowe
Nice thread -- it's fun to read more about y'all.A few random things about me...- I am a big bookworm and have read 50+ books/year for the last 10 years (since I started geekily tracking in a spreadsheet)- I played soccer in college and was almost but not quite good enough to go pro- I have a CFA (chartered financial analyst) and work for a big company you all have heard of that's hq'd in Settle- I lived overseas in Sydney and Singapore for a total of 7 years before moving back to the US last year- I was raised Catholic and became a Buddhist a few years ago. Don't meditate every day, but I do it as often as I can and it's had an incalculable impact on my life- I'm a Libertarian, and as such have grown to accept that I'll never have a major party candidate that I 'like' or agree with. Dislike the GOP for their intolerance of alternative lifestyles and immigrants, and dislike the Dems for their love of high taxes and spending. Sigh.- Love to cook... I love good food and it's meditative and peaceful for me to cook- Have a long term girlfriend who lives back in Asia. We find a way to make it work, but it ain't always easy.- Retired from soccer due to two bad knees, but play tennis, Ultimate, table tennis and football twice a month, and do hiking and snowshoeing in the mountains that are near seattle . I work out 5 days/week and my fitness is of paramount importance to me in being able to do all of these activities that I love so much.- I am a poker player who is pretty serious about it (although would never turn pro)- Indie music and indie movie snob Quote Link to comment
Hannibal
Very good thread idea. I agree with Marlowe, it's fun to read more about everyone.-I really enjoy learning about history. I tend to read a lot about World War 2 or historical biographies. Also love documentaries about history. Although 90% of the history I read/watch is about either Germany or the USSR in World War 2. -I also read quite a bit about religion. I'm an atheist and sometimes read the standard atheist fare, but I also like to learn about Buddhism, Christianity, and a little about Islam. -I love listening to music. At present I have 43 days worth of music in my iTunes, and several more gigs elsewhere on my computer that I just don't like to listen to anymore but can't bring myself to delete. My tastes are quite eclectic, but I don't really delve too deeply into any one genre. For example, lately I've been listening to a lot of 80's pop hits (got a great Top 100 Songs of the 80s set. Wall of Voodoo, FTW) and Ol' Dirty Bastard. And some of the more obscure stuff I do like is pretty weird, and often Japanese. Like Kawabata Makoto or Haniwa-Chan. I guess I go more for quantity than quality, musically. -I love old B movies. If it ain't cheesy, I don't like it! Pretty much anything with Vincent Price, the Omega Man, Soylent Green, Shaft, The Street Fighter, and so on. They Live! is my all time favorite.-Like you Scarletleavy, I too have a sick/dark sense of humor. I haven't seen It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, though. I like standup. Louis CK, David Cross, Doug Stanhope, Bill Hicks, and George Carlin are my favorites. -I like art, although I don't know a lot about it, nor am I particularly good at it. It does make me happy, though. Quote Hannibal's Workout Log | Hannibal's Blog Link to comment
Rosie
Great thread idea! I've got a few fun facts about myself I'm really into photography and rarely leave the house without a camera in my bag (I'm a Nikon girl and have spent about £600 in lenses in the last couple of years but my favourite lens is a cheap 50mm from the 70s that my mums boyfriend picked up from a car boot sale for me) I've been told I take really nice candid natural shots of people and its something I'd like to keep doing in the future. Who knows maybe work my way into wedding photography and make a bit of cash on the side of it?I read loads and getting a kindle last year has transformed my life! (Not even kidding, I lost if for a week around christmas and nearly cried when I couldn't find it.)I like to cook although I don't do nearly enough of it at home and always just rely on my mum to cook dinners. I always cook when I'm around at my boyfriends flat though and I like to experiment in the kitchen. I love travelling, city breaks, long holidays - anything that gets me out of London and seeing something new! My favourite holiday so far has been australia where me and the boyfriend travelled around in a camper van for three weeks visiting various friends that we knew there. This year I'm hoping to go to Egypt, Munich (Oktoberfest!) and Italy as well as a couple of city breaks but I'll have to see how far my finances can get me!Hmm not really sure what else I can put. The Tin Man
Wow, some very interesting lives in here! I love hearing about this stuff because I can forget the wide variety of experiences people can have. The Super Bowl is coming and I WILL be rocking my Welker jersey and making chipotle chicken chili.-I like reading. I'm not always reading something but in a week's vacation I'll put away a couple 600 pagers.-Having an awesome time with my niece and six nephews (I'm the youngest of five).Other Tin Man Trivia:-I was captain of my high school cross country team my senior year.-Despite the previous fact in track I ran sprints and threw shot put and discus.-In eighth grade I was on a middle school Science Olympiad team that came in ninth nationally.-There is almost the same age gap between me and my eldest sibling (15 years) as there is between me and my eldest nephews (16 years).-I love my alma mater, UMass Amherst (BS in Mechanical Engineering).-I will talk your ear off about finance-related topics and have made many spreadsheets to that effect.-I greatly enjoy cooking.-The summer I turned 11 I went on a five week cross-country trip with my parents and one of my sisters.
