Yes, I know it's a log and not a bog, but I just really wanted that alliteration, okay? Okay.

Let's begin with yesterday.

Morning: I forgot to bring food from my house to work, which mean my breakfast consisted of one of those OatFit pouches. It's only 100 calories, but it's 100 calories of grains and sugar. Not my favorite. I did 20 walking lunges throughout the morning in between customers. I was hoping to do more but walking lunges are my arch nemesis and as soon as I started that last set I was like O.o. Nope. I am sore this morning so I think I did okay.

Afternoon: Again, ate OatFit. Yay. I didn't do anything exercise related, but I did finish a drawing that's been sitting around for ages. Sort of. All I have left to do is sign it, but I'm going to let it sit for a bit and see if there's any last minute changes I want to make.

Evening. Went for a quick bike ride down to  the McDonalds and back. Um, pro-biking tip: Canadian geese are not your friends. The trail took me past a little family of geese, complete with goslings, and the adults were hissing and chasing me... you might not think that this is scary, but it is. I promise it is. Dinner was ramen with green onions, broccoli, a poached egg and "flavorings." Since my ramen was shrimp flavored, I added crushed red pepper flakes a little vinegar and just a smidge of brown sugar. I don't think it was that big of a success, as far as ramen ad-ins go. After adding in all my food into MyFitnessPal, the app told me I had not consumed enough calories for the day, so I popped a bag of popcorn. If you're asking why popcorn and not something healthier... I don't know. I could have boiled myself some eggs. Why didn't I make myself eggs? That sounds delicious right now. Anyway... whatever.

Summary: I'm happy with my activity level. (Any day I bike anywhere is a good day) but I'm kind of worried about my food situation. Instant oatmeal, ramen, popcorn, all these things have been huge staples in my diet, and therefore comprise the majority of the food in my house.

“Do you know where the wicked go after death?"
"They go to hell," was my ready and orthodox answer.
"And what is hell? Can you tell me that?"
"A pit full of fire."
"And should you like to fall into that pit, and to be burning there for ever?"
"No, sir."
"What must you do to avoid it?"
I deliberated a moment: my answer, when it did come was objectionable: "I must keep in good health and not die.”

Due to wi-fi issues at my house, I can only really be on the internet at work (so 9ish to 5ish central time) so I'll continue with writing entries about the day before, but I'm going to organize it differently. Instead of by time of day, I'm going to organize it by category. So Diet, Exercise, and Life.

Diet: I remembered my lunch/breakfast! Monday I had sliced a sweet potato up and roasted it with cinnamon and a little olive oil, and I ate slices of it with peanut butter throughout the day. Well under my calorie maximum, filling, and also delicious. After I got home I microwaved some frozen broccoli and put a little bit of toasted sesame dressing on it. Why didn't I just eat it plain? Because toasted sesame dressing is my favorite salad dressing. It's better than ranch by a lot. I also made some sweet potato fry bits. (I used the Feast of Fiction fry bits recipe, but replaced the white potato with an orange potato.) And they were delicious! I had planned to poach some eggs to go with it, but I forgot the "soak the bits in water for a half hour" part of the recipe, so it ended up taking a lot longer than I thought. By the time the food was done, I just wanted to eat it. I ended that day below my calorie goal but also above the "you're not eating enough" warning MyFitnessPal gives you if you eat less than a certain number of calories.

Exercise: I did.... nothing really. I did mow the lawn, which ended with me dripping with sweat. More because it was hot and I was wearing black like an idiot than because it was difficult. It's actually getting a lot easier. This probably counts more as a life thing than an exercise thing, but since I have nothing else to put here...

Life: Aside from mowing the lawn, I wrote about 900 words in "Sacrifice," a fantasy novel I'm trying to write, by killing an entire temple full of priests, (I did leave one survivor) and concocting a plan for my main characters to sneak past a fort undetected. I'm not happy with how they did that, basically using the get-out-of-jail-free card that is magic... but I couldn't think of anything very good. If anyone wants to put on their Skyrim hats and think of an exciting way to sneak two people and a team of sled dogs past a fort that overlooks completely flat tundra, I'm all ears. It is dark out, if that helps.

Summary: I'm pretty happy with yesterday. I didn't eat anything processed! (Except peanut butter... and frozen broccoli from a bag...) But I avoided ramen, which is a win. I'm not sure how I'm going to do that tonight, since I'm completely out of sweet potatoes now... I'm also running low on eggs, so maybe it's a good thing I didn't eat any last night. I didn't do any exercise, but I needed the rest day, I think. My legs were pretty sore. (Damn you lunges!) So I think I'm happy.

Hello there! My biggest challenge is also on my diet. That's why my first challenge is all about keeping track of my food and just avoiding sugary drinks, which I can live without.

Lunges!! Yes, I hate lunges. But it makes you push yourself more whenever lunges reminds me that I am not that strong enough yet.

GOOD LUCK!!! Following your Battle Bog and your first challenge!!! :)

Okay, so about yesterday. (June 10, 2016)

Diet: I remembered my breakfast again! More roasted sweet potatoes with peanut butter! Unfortunately, dinner last night was ramen with hot dogs... I put broccoli in it! But it was still not very healthy. Managed to come in under my goal, but barely.

Exercise: I tried jumping onto a plastic stool in between customers. Then it broke and just stepped up on a different stool for the rest of the day. Easier than lunges but scarier because I have no balance. I was planning on biking this afternoon, but after I got off work it was looking like it was going to storm. And it did! With hail and lightning and everything! I'm glad I didn't bike but I wish I had done something. Instead I took a nap. (Thunderstorms make me sleepy. I have no idea why.)

Life: Continued to write "Sacrifice." Only 500 words this time. My villains are torturing that survivor from the temple massacre... I have no idea what my main characters are doing. Probably should go back to them because they are the main characters... but honestly, the next thing they have to do is make camp for the night, which is not not near so interesting as being tortured. Unless I turn this book into the Grey... which I might try, but I've never actually seen that movie.

Summary: It was not what I would call a good day. It was more a barely adequate day. I mean, I did things I told myself to do, but I don't think I did my best. Nowhere near, actually. But today is a new day!

Geese of any sort can be mean.  My neighbor had a flock when I was a kid and you had to run at them kicking and yelling to get them to leave you alone at times.  In the olden days they were kept instead of dogs to be guard animals.

OMG Geese are the Liam Neesons of the animal world. They have a very particular set of skills. Skills that make them a nightmare for people like me. (You know, human people.) Fortunately for me, I was smart enough to let the goslings alone.

I'm at my mom's house for the weekend, which means I do have wi-fi at night now! So here's what happened today: June 11, 2016

Diet: Ugh. Yesterday I ate the last of my sweet potatoes, so I didn't have any food to bring to work. I wasn't excited by the idea of eating Oatfit, so I ate peanut butter instead. Two teaspons... that was all the food I ate until dinner tonight, when my mom bought me chinese and I pigged out on beef and string beans. I also had two steamed dumplings, because I'd been dreaming about these particular steamed dumplings all day. I ended the day still under my calorie goal, and actually had to eat a little more (I chose an ice cream bar) to make it over my daily calorie minimum. Still, I wouldn't recommend this method of dieting.

Exercise: Uh uh. I did do push ups. Five sets of ten in between customers this morning. But they were so wimpy! I have no upper body strength. I was hoping to steal my mom's bike and ride around the lake when I got here, but I was so hungry I decided I'd rather have food. Bike tomorrow, hopefully.

Life: I wrote another 500 words in Sacrifice. I'm back with my main characters, but they're just making camp. I am worried I'm describing too much of the details about camp. We haven't had any Grey moments yet. Does any one have any other horrible ice world/tundra monsters they could face? Besides polar bears, because I've got some plans for that.

Summary: Eh. I really, really need to get better about planning my breakfasts and lunches at work. This will get easier when I go shopping with my mom tomorrow and pick up a lot more fruits and vegetables, though. And I do expect to bike tomorrow. My mom's bike is a lot better than mine. It's a treat to ride. I have also introduced my mother to the show American Ninja Warrior today... I don't know if she enjoys it, though. We'll see.

Better than nothing. :) My upper body strength is also weak, too. I did my first bodyweight workout with the right form of a push up variation and my shoulders and chest hurts!!! It's not even THE pushup where you push yourself on the floor.

Kudos in writing!!! I actually want to write some fiction but procrastination always hits me. :(

I just watched American Ninja Warrior today and I'm just in awe with all the strength, flexibility, and balance the athletes have. :) Are you considering joining soon?? :)

I don't think my form was very good... at all. I don't know... I was doing knee push ups before but I'm worried those are too easy. I know I have good form on them though. Is there something in between?

Thank you! Writing fiction is how I usually procrastinate, so I'm trying to make it my profession. Unfortunately, that's not really going anywhere.

Considering joining... what? American Ninja Warrior? Not soon. Considering joining the assassin's guild? I'd like to be able to do a pull up first. That's my first major fitness hurdle I'm trying to get over. My long term goal: one pull up. Then I will join the assassin's guild, I think. Unless I get distracted by something shiny.

From the Academy workouts: " If you can not perform a bodyweight pushup, you can lower your body down in correct pushup form, then push up in a knee pushup."

This is something I will probably have to do as well.  I can do the knee pushups, but have difficulty transitioning to the real things.

So do we just do more knee pushups then? If knee pushups are leven 1 and real pushups are level 2, is there a level 2.5?

(I'm trying to be more organized with these, since we're in 4 week challenge territory now. My challenge thread is here, by the by.)

Diet: Oh. My. God. (Imagine that in Janice from Friend's voice.) The day started out really well! My breakfast was cherries and an apple! I had only water to drink... then we had to go to the mall. (Had to buy a bridesmaids dress... I usually think running is hell, but I would honestly rather run a marathon right now, as I am, completely untrained, than shop for a bridesmaids dress.) So, at the mall, we had Chipotle. I had never eaten at a Chipotle before and I got a burrito. It was ENORMOUS. HOLY SHIT. I was full for eight hours. What am I doing with my life!?!?!?!?!? AHHHHHH! Anyway, for dinner, after the burrito debacle, I had broccoli with toasted sesame dressing. And a half serving of mango sorbet. (Because if I don't eat it today it will not be there when I come back to my mother's house next week, and I really wanted to try it.) Still came in under my calorie goal, though. Somehow... I think math is wrong. Or my calorie goal is too high. Something. I mean, I didn't even need to use the calories I burned doing exercise today to stay under my calorie goal. But I feel ENORMOUS! I don't understand.

4WC #1: Did I track everything I ate? Yes. Even the drinks. Which turned out to be a good thing, because MyFitnessPal tells me that even Chipotle's iced tea has calories. Somehow... they must be making iced tea incorrectly.A+

4WC #2: Eat a vegetable with at least one meal? Yes. In fact one of my meals was entirely vegetables. (It was delicious... I will do this again in the future.) A+

Exercise: My mom woke me up about an hour or so earlier than I would have normally woken up so I could bike with her while she went running. I took her bike and did a figure 8 around the tiny lake she lives near. (There's a bridge in the middle of it; that's how a figure 8 is possible.) Then I did it again. Took the long way back to the house. (Which avoids going up a monster of a hill. Well, I live in Iowa, so it's not that big, but it's big compared to the surrounding hills. Here, in flat, flat Iowa, it's like the Ivan Drago of hills. Imagine it saying "I must break you" when you get to about the mid point.) This totaled in about 7.6ish miles of biking. And I still got back to the house before my mom did.

When I got back, I also did bodyweight exercises, but I did them so... half-assed that I'm not sure they're worth mentioning. 20 second plank. 10 bodyweight squats. 10... lifting up this doll chair in the guest room in something that kind of resembles a bent over row, except it's a doll chair instead of a dumbbell. And then I moved right into stretching because those are the only strength excercises I really like to do.

4WC #3: Two bike trips a week of 4 miles or more? 1 of 2 completed. C

Life: I actually spent most of the day in the mall trying on horrible dresses and cursing my friend for picking terrible colors. I mean, I love her but she didn't pick good dress colors. She also stipulated that all the bridesmaid dresses have lace. They don't have to be exact matches, but they have to fit the color scheme and they have to have lace. I'm honestly shocked we actually found something, but, to be honest, I hate shopping and toward the end the sight of white lace on anything kind of made me want to cry. I did write when I got home, in Sacrifice again (which means I'm stuck with Sacrifice until the end of the 4 week challenge.) It was all exposition and world building, which was mostly for me. I'm trying to figure out how my world works. This is better done in pre-writes beforehand than in the actual story, but whatever I guess. Words. I wrote them.

4WC #4: Write at least 500 words in the SAME DOCUMENT every day? Yes. A+

Summary: Except for battling the burrito monster, today was a good day. I liked today. And all my challenge things were pretty easy to accomplish. I'm worried I might have set the bar a little too low, but Day 1 is not the day to worry about that.

“Do you know where the wicked go after death?"
"They go to hell," was my ready and orthodox answer.

I still can't even do knee push ups yet! Well, I tried it before but I decided to take things slow. I'm still on inclined push ups level, something like this:

I don't think I would also join American Ninja Warrior soon (or ever?! :beguiled:). For joining guilds here in NF, I am thinking the same, too. I want to be a ranger but I think I don't have the stats to be called one, yet. I mean, they're all lifting heavy ass weights and joining marathons and I here I am on Level 0.

Hi! I just wanted to chime in and let you know I'm following along on your journey. Also, is frozen broccoli really considered processed? If it is, it's still a veggie, and that's definitely better than no veg, ya know? And, if all the geese of the world disappeared I wouldn't be upset. Geese are such bullies!

What are you using to track your calories? I'm using the My Fitness Pal app and it works well for me. I hear a lot of people complain that it isn't accurate and what-have-you, but it works for me and I never feel terribly full, but satisfied for sure when I'm under my calorie limit.

Great job on your biking! It sounds like you have a beautiful place to bike. What a blessing!

UGH dress shopping can be the worst. Do you like the dress you found though? Are you comfortable and do you feel beautiful in it? I hope so. :)

I'm also using My Fitness Pal. My current theory is that it's less the amount of calories I was eating and more that I ate them all at once. My meals for the past several weeks have all mostly been very small. This was a huge amount of food at once and my body just wasn't used to it.

I actually really do. I'm ridiculously lucky that way.

I hope so? Thank you for following me!

Back to no wi-fi at my house, so the updates are going to be about the day before again.

Diet: Yesterday I ate the leftover Chinese from Saturday. My mom also let me take a bunch of cherries (my favorite! They're so expensive though) and grapes from her house, so I ate those for breakfast, steamed dumplings for lunch, and beef with string beans for dinner. I also snacked on gummy bears. I was under my calorie goal, but... gummy bears. *shrug*

4WC #1: Track everything? Yes, though I had to track my dinner this morning after the fact.

4WC #2: Veggie with at least one meal? Yes. The string beans in my beef and string beans totally counts. (I hope, or else I failed for today. If I made this eat either a fruit or a vegetable, I'd be golden but that would also be to easy. I love fruit.)

Exercise: Eh. I had to get up early to drive back to my house, so no early morning bike ride was possible. That evening I expected to have book club so I didn't plan on biking later either. It was cancelled, so I totally could have, but waking up three hours earlier than I'm used to waking up made me decide to nap instead. I did do squats throughout the day between customers, but eh.

4WC #3: Bike at least 4mi twice a week? Not yesterday.

Life: I did several useful life things yesterday. I wrote in my story. (Still exposition-ing, but that's very nearly over.) I did some business things. I did all my language stuff...

4WC #4: Write at least 500 words in the SAME DOCUMENT daily? Yes.

Summary: I did okay with everything except exercise, though I feel like what I mostly did was sleep.

"And what is hell? Can you tell me that?"

Diet: More grapes and cherries for breakfast. I ate the last of my leftover Chinese food, consuming the rice. Some for lunch with broccoli and some for dinner with tuna and broccoli. (And sauces. Mostly soy sauce. A few spices. Whatever I happened to have on hand.) I ended the day under my calorie goal.

4WC #1: Track everything? Yep.

4WC #2: Veggie with at least one meal? Yep. Broccoli. Twice! Frozen broccoli is pretty amazing guys. Just fyi.

Exercise: Nope. I didn't even do my customary bodyweight exercises in between customers! The weather was terrible yesterday. Severe thunderstorms, tornado warnings, power outages. I didn't particularly feel like biking. It looks like it's going to be beautiful the rest of the week, though, so I'm out of excuses.

4WC #3: Bike at least 4mi twice a week? Not yesterday, either.

Life: Wrote in my story again! I almost didn't, having totally forgot about it until late in the day. But I did manage to get it done. A wolf attack is imminent. Which might stall me more than it spurs me on. I'm not sure I want to write a wolf attack? If I do something silly and completely unrealistic but something I do want to write, that's better than doing something more realistic that I don't want to write, right? Right? I don't know. Writing tip: Work harder on your pre-writes than I have.

4WC #4: Write 500 words in the SAME DOCUMENT daily? Yep. I am crushing this part of the challenge so far.

Summary: I wish I had done more active things, instead of just watching the rain and then going home and watching Labyrinth. But as far as food and writing are going, I'm good. I just wish I had made exercise more of a priority.

2 things for Sacrifice.

1 - sneaking on a tundra at night: depending on the colors of the dogs you can cover the sled in white cloth and quiet the metal parts of the harness with rope.  If you've really got supplies you could build a little sled dog team cover out of light sticks and/or thin metal (think a pop up tent without a floor) and cover the dogs/sled that way.

2 - For enemies: Behold the Russian boar.  They are the size of a full grown man.  Google Image Search "Russian Boar" and you'll get hunting trophy pictures that show a humans beside a (dead) boar.

1- That is a much better idea than magic! Thank you so much!

2- and thank you, again, because I'm definitely going to use that. It's so creepy and awesome!

Diet: I think I did okay yesterday, ish. I ate my grapes and cherries for breakfast, broccoli and tuna for lunch, carrots as a snack, which wiped out all the food I brought to work... and totalled about 300-ish calories. So I ate ramen when I got home. Which is not so great, I know, but still. I was super hungry! For dinner I made stir-fry with chicken that had been marinating since yesterday and a frozen stir-fry mix. A lot of it went into tupperware containers so I'll be eating it for lunch for a while. Pineapple for dessert! I've also started eating those gummy vitamin things? I take those more consistently than I take real vitamins. (It helps that they're right next to where I charge my cell phone.) The only real drawback is that every time I take them, I hear this:

I might be a little insane.

4WC #1: Track everything? Yep! And I was under my calorie goal!

4WC #2: Veggie with at least one meal? Yep! This has gotten easier since I went grocery shopping. I have more options than just frozen broccoli. (Though I do still love me some frozen broccoli.)

Exercise: I biked yesterday! I usually go south, but yesterday I went north into uncharted territory. (Not really. I drive that way all the time.) I ended up going 8 miles, twice as far as my regular to-the-McDonald's trips. It didn't feel like I was really going all that much farther though, possibly because a large portion of my trip was down hill? I didn't exactly stick to the trail, which might have been more challenging, but the trail makes you cross the highway at a relatively busy intersection (for my small town,) so I biked north and crossed the highway where the speed limit drops to 25mph. Which led me to the top of that hill that I basically just coasted down for a large portion of the trip. But, eh, it was a bit of an adventure. There's more construction and dirt and bumps and branches going that way. Small town problems: Someone honked and waved at me as they drove by. The same person did it once before. Their truck is pretty distinctive. Unfortunately, I don't know who they are. Obviously they think they know me. It kind of bothers me. A lot. I also did lunges in between customers. I managed to add on an extra set to what I did last week, but... I really, really hate lunges.

4WC #3: Two bike trips of at least 4mi a week? Yes! Two of two!

Life: While I totally made my word count goal, I didn't go much beyond it. Oh well, did the less realistic thing that I wanted to do. Because it's more fun to write things you want to write. And also, there is now opportunity for reincorporation! Whoo! Who doesn't love them some good reincorporation? Now I need to quickly check in with the lady getting tortured by priests before I sick a boar on my main characters. (Thank you again, @Mike_d85 for this idea!) In non-writing life things, I managed to fix my wi-fi last night, so I can start doing nightly posts here!

4WC #4: Write at least 500 words in the SAME DOCUMENT daily? Yep. They made friends with the local wildlife. D'aww.

Summary: I liked yesterday. I always seem to like days where I exercises seriously. (None of the bodyweight exercises between customers stuff. For one thing, I can't work up a sweat because customers!) Even though I did eat ramen. Oh well. Here's Bowie gif.

Someone else remembers Gummi Bears?  The cartoon, not the candy obviously.  I loved it as a kid but it never left the merchandise footprint all over my childhood like the other Disney stuff did.  Maybe that's why it was so short lived...

Confession: I have never watched the show. I just know the theme song! And I honestly have no idea why.
