I have been having problems with my tailbone. Went to orthopedic specialist and said i have coxxydynia. Basically sitting is uncomfortable with a bonus shooting pain when i stand up. Standing, walking, running are all ok. I have a standing rig at work so i can use my computer standing but that gets old and standing in 1 spot for 8 hours is not great. So i go through this cylce every day of standing til i'm tired sitting till its uncomfortable with the bonus pain of getting up. By the end of the day i'm soo fried i have problem getting motivated enough and feel like i dont have the energy to do any kind of workout.

I'm still doing some Bodyweight workouts in the mornigns and riding my bike to work most days but my wieght loss has kind of plateaued and my strength i feel has gotten worse.

anyone had these problems with chronic type pain

(btw doc suggested cortisone shot which will be soon and i really hope it helps though i am very nervous about that in itself)

Wow, I hope you can get this figured out. I had two back injuries (sciatic nerve twitching with lower back muscle pulled, walked with cane for a week at age 22 THEN I fell down metal outdoor stairs) and I actually just started having my nerve twitch again with lower back pain. I don't know what to tell you. I stretch A LOT, take omega 3 fish oil, and try to keep active and otherwise healthy.

My aunt had chronic back pain, she got the cortisone shot several times. She has been doing really well seeing a chiropractor regularly and working out.

Good luck, I know this must really suck.

EDIT: this sounds really kind of choppy and rude. Sorry. I'm currently riding the pain. <3

I would also suggest a chiropractor. I have bad lower back issues and my chiro has been wonderful in getting me mobile again.

When you sit at work, do you use a standard office chair? Maybe one of those balance balls, or a cushion with the back cut out (where your tailbone would touch), or an ergonomic kneeling chair might help manage that part of your day.

Did your doctor discover a cause? If this is a new pain, the cause might help you figure out the best treatment for you. If your doc can't pinpoint a cause, maybe a chiropractor could.

This used to be where  my weight loss progress bar was. Maybe it will be here again when I'm ready to face the scale and work on my fat problem.

Ugh, that sucks. Does you doctor think that physical therapy might help? I've had excellent luck with physical therapy for all of my weird aches and pains, though I'll admit that I've never had anything involving the spine. I have been having some luck with meditation for chronic pain management, if that's your thing (I have chronic joint and back pain). It's so hard because dealing with chronic pain is exhausting. It's hard to work up the motivation to exercise when you're in pain. Don't beat yourself up about it, but DO try to find some method of making things better, whether that's seeing a chiropractor (didn't actually work well for me, but maybe worth a shot), PT, meditation, yoga, shots, or whatever. Realize that guilt and stress isn't good for you and isn't particularly productive.

You've probably already thought about this, but does sitting in every position or lying down also hurt? Could you maybe get a couch or bean bag chair at work to rest in that would hurt less than a chair? I know nothing about your condition, so that's just a shot in the dark. I hope you're feeling better soon!
