I was a 124 lb college freshman and here is how fitness changed my body

Hello first of all I would like to thank everyone for all the content on this forum because it helped me so much in my progress. I just wanted to share my journey as the 124 lb token scrawny kid in high school. To be honest I wasn't really insecure about my body because I took it for granted. I took it for granted because nobody expected me to be any different and I was fine with that in high school because I mean life was still great I had friends that I would watch movies with and play video games to keep my mind occupied. Come freshman year of college, I went to an out of state school so everything was new. The school was also known for its rigor which didn't help my case. I realized that I wasn't the smart kid in class anymore or the class clown or anything that I could identify as. There were no other avenues for me to progress in which is how I found lifting as my outlet. I never touched a barbell in my life but what gave me the itch to keep swiping into the gym day in and day out was because it was my way of progressing in some aspect of my life regardless of how bad I may be doing in my classes. I just want to say that fitness is for EVERYONE. It just looks different for everyone but you just have to find what gives you that itch. It may be bodybuilding, crossfit, olympic weightlifting, strongman, etc. It may even simply be to train your squats so that one day you can dunk. I truly believe this because there is no way you will not make any progress through fitness because everyone has to start somewhere. For me I started at the bottom 5th percentile for my BMI for my age range.

I went like 7 days a week for like a year and it was even a struggle to talk myself down to 6 days a week haha. Rest is super important but I was truly addicted with the process. What I learned being a noobie was:

  1. Fitness is long run no need to try and deadlift PR today, learned this the hard way after snapping my back with catlike deadlift form, you'll find nobody cares that you deadlifted 3 plates for the first time this week or next month.

  2. Rest. When I was going 7 days a week I wasn't really getting bigger just more "toned". It was only when I started thinking of my workouts as training rather than exercise that I learned to manage my fatigue.

  3. EAT. Cutting fat is A LOT easier than gaining muscle. No point in wasting your precious noobie years over fat gain. For me I wasn't purposely cutting I just couldn't stomach 3000+ calories.

  4. Strength comes first, size comes later. Trust me if you get stronger in the bench, squat, and deadlift you WILL get bigger. For the most part, if someone's body is capable of benching 225 it will look a certain way compared to someone who is capable of benching 135.

Anyways as for me I'll be focusing on getting into the 1000 pounds club. Have fun guys and thanks for reading fam!
