Emissary2Ornj
I was thinking about different "genres" of vocabulary and jargon, so I went looking for some which might have parallels to our nutrition/fitness quests. Specialist language isn't a part of my every day life, but I thought I might find some gems. Robot vocabulary!!! I mean, what if we started talking like this about our workouts? Disclaimer: I am NOT making fun of robotics, robots, robot engineers, robot programmers. Just enjoying myself. And if no one else can dork out on this, it's way cool. Also, no disrespect to WALL-E, M-O, Sonny, or R2D2. My favorites: (not necessarily b/c of their relation to fitness) Backdrivability (just sounds cool/funny) (also should be used from now on to talk about “ability to reverse when driving”) (also trips my math/science brain switch: I bet there's LOTS of applications in the world where it's necessary to know/avoid/plan for this) Compliance (some motion is inevitable; total stillness/perfection is not always realistic) End-effector (hand) End-point control (it goes where I move it) Exteroception Force closure (stubborn grip) Form closure (tight grip) Grasp planning (best grip) Harmonic drive (ignoring actual meaning; it just sounds chill, dude) (okay, not as chill as a car's harmonic balancer, but almost) Hybrid control (Hyper)Redundant manipulator ([extra] mobile joint) (just sounds funny) Inverse dynamics (form) Kinematic singularity (low mobility) Kinematic structure Kinematic chain (leg bone connected to the knee bone connected to the ankle bone) Kinematic pair (upper arm & forearm) Load capacity (duh) Material handling, robotic (we do that) Motion planning (form, programming) Palettizing (ha!) (a fancy way of saying put it all in one place, organized) (I may start applying this to "gathered underpants") Position control (goals!) Repeatability Sensor fusion (putting it all together) Reachable workspace (may be limited if you're 5'2") (like me) Dexterous workspace Quote "You're not in it to get Most [Recognized Rebel Ever]. You're not in it to be eligible for prizes. You're in this because you made a promise to yourself and you refuse to let you down. Walk the talk. And even when you don't talk much, make the walk so powerful that it leaves no room for questions - from inside or out." -note to self Str7.5 Dex6 Sta5.7 Con11.8 Wis10.4 Cha2 Intro post~Challenge 1~Challenge 2~Challenge 3~Challenge 4~Battle Log 1 Ranger Level 3 Link to comment
