Need some advice.

Alright so I've been doing the following workouts/fitness routine for the past couple weeks and I need some advice. I'm 20 years old and am on summer break from the university so I've been in hardcore fitness mode. I've been trying to be as strict paleo as I possibly can with the mindset to slim down. This is how my week usually is

Monday - Lift heavy (Rebel Strength Guide W/Os), INSANITY, and usually some ultimate frisbee at the park.

Tuesday - Lift heavy, Insanity

Wednesday- Insanity

Thursday - Lift Heavy, Insanity

Friday - Lift heavy, Insanity, Ultimate Frisbee

Saturday - Insanity, ultimate Frisbee

Sunday- REST

Now, tomorrow I finish my third week of the insanity workout. So far, I feel like they are really good aerobic workouts that really get my blood pumping and me sweating. I have yet to really feel dead from all of these workouts. I'm recovering fairly quickly and haven't had to skip any days of working out. What is your opinion on insanity? What is your opinion on what I am doing as a whole? Is there something else I could do that could make me drop weight a little quicker? I've seen some results (granted it has only been a couple weeks) but nothing crazy. Thanks for your feedback.

I think you should stick to one program, not multiple programs.

And if its only 3 weeks, you shouldnt be seeing anything crazy. Change takes time.

Makes sense. I messed up on writing it out, i only lift 4 days a week. I combine lifting and insanity because I've had friends that have done insanity (I started insanity before finding NF) and they recommended that I lift as well so i don't lost muscle mass. Right now I'm just alternating doing 5x 5 squats and push press, 5x5 Dead lift and pullups, 3x5 sqts & Psh press, 3x5 DL and PUs. So nothing too crazy.

I don't see why you can't lift and do Insanity, provided you don't train for hypertrophy. In fact, I would say you can lift 5x a week if you want to as long as you keep the total volume down and avoid failure by leaving a rep or two in the bank. For instance, I did all the lifts you mentioned while doing hill sprints 5x a week as well.

It looked like this:

Squat: 1x3-6

Push Press: 1x3-6

Deadlift: 1x5

Pullup: 1x5-6

Barbell Finger Rolls: 5x8

Note that I did a few singles with lighter weights to establish my poundage for the day. This set up will enable you to make strength gains while still allowing you to drop weight, but it won't make your muscles any bigger.

I've done Insanity in the past and I am lifting heavy now. Personally, I feel like doing both at the same time is a recipe for burnout--especially if you are eating in any kind of deficit (which I am assuming you are seeing as you mentioned wanting to slim down). More isn't always better.

I'm sure it is different for some people and you probably aren't going to experience negative effects right away. If you are going to do both, make sure you are sleeping a ton and eating a lot. Pay close attention to your recovery and don't be afraid to take some time off if you are starting to feel fatigued. Messed up cortisol levels aren't fun.

Edit to clarify: It's not that I think lifting and cardio can't be done together without leading to overtraining, but the volume you're talking about looks pretty intense.
