Epic places to go in the NorthEast? (MA, VT area)

Hey guys,

My girlfriend and I are looking to do a road trip for her birthday. We'd love go somewhere with scenic photo opportunities - mountains, pine forests, lakes...you know, epic. I know Vermont is quite beautiful, for example, but Vermont is a pretty big place, so I could use some specifics.

If a hike is necessary to get there, that's a plus! But not an overnight hike, we're not that hardcore.

One thing - we do have quite a few nice hiking places home in NJ - ie: [ATTACH=CONFIG]4825[/ATTACH]

That's about 45 minutes from me, and a very short hike up to the overlook. So, I'm looking for something truly epic. Like, LOTR epic.
