Hello There

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm new around these parts and thought I'd allow myself to introduce... myself. I'm Sam, a New Zealander living in Queensland, Aus. I do engineering type stuff all day so I usually can't wait to hit the gym or the squash court or rugby training at knock off time. I'm making some good progress in the world of lifting. It's great to see this site is geared towards picking up heavy stuff rather that 20 reps of tricep kick backs. I currently run a 2 day split:

A

Squats 1 x 5rm

1 x 5rm -10%

Bench 1 x 5rm

1 x 5rm -10%

Chins 3 x max

B

Clean and press 1 x 5rm

1 x 5rm -10%

Deadlifts 1 x 5rm

1 x 5rm -10%

Dips 3 x 8 max

Squats 1 x 20reps

Any comments or advice is welcome. I'm off to the US for a 2 month road trip starting in October so the main goal is to be looking good and strong for that. Oh and to be able to do a backflip.

Cheers!

Welcome, mate. Might I say a backflip is an excellent goal. I haven't been able to do one in about 6 years now :(.

What are your stats for those lifts? You definitely want to come check out the warrior's guild, they're the lifting specialists. Can I ask why you're doing a 20 rep squat on B day? Is that a bodyweight squat for cool-down or something?

Welcome! I'm excited to follow your journey on doing a backflip :]

Haha it'll be a slow journey I'd imagine. I can pretty much get right around into the pool (most of the time) but it'll be a while before I get the courage to try one on dry land. Keep you posted.

The 20 rep set of squats are breathing squats with a light weight because my legs are sore.

Went to the beach the yesterday and got the courage to try my first dry land back flip. Went off a rock about 6 inches above the sand to start with and over rotated a bit, aka ended up with pants full of sand. Found another rock a bit lower and tried again, held the landing. Woot! Definitely could work on absorbing the landing as I jarred my shins and ankles pretty good but they came right. Next step is to give it a go on some nice soft grass. Oh we saw a snake too.
