Best stretches/exercises for hip flexibility?

I've been doing barbell squats, but I'd also like to work on my hip flexibility. Put simply, I am not very flexible. I know squats themselves can help, but I'm looking for additional things I can do. I'm more interested in stretches but would do exercises as long as they won't be overworking that area.

Thanks for the help!

This stretch looks incredible! I'm definitely doing this pre-squat tonight. Thanks!

"Incredible" is one word for it. Other words include "painful" and "faintly humiliating." I did it tonight too and I really need to do it every few days.

And I second the recommendation to basically do everything on mobilitywod.com. The stretches are horrible while you're doing them but omg will your joints feel good when you're done.

Wow! I did them pre-squat, too, as well as post-workout. It felt great! I had no problem getting my leg up and bent, but the upright position was hardest for me (back against the wall). I could only do that for 5 or so seconds before needing to go back on my hands.

Whew! It's a keeper, though. I was able to finally progress to 50lb barbell squats! WOO! I really need to go through his other videos, too. Thanks everyone!

It is humbling realising how immobile i actually am, i struggle to get into the start position for the above stretch.

Another good stretch for opening up your hips... is somewhere in the mobilitywod site, get down into a full squat, jam your elbows into the inside of your knees and push outwards.
