Shiny New Level 1.....well, we all have to start somewhere

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow Rebels,

I'm a new dad who wants to get in shape so I can keep up with my son as he grows up, pretty simple really. I've always been a fan of functional fitness over just working for a 6 pack or to look good on the beach. I HATE commercial gyms so I have a pretty basic set up down in my garage (it's hard to miss a workout when your gym is only 12 feet away!). I also like to train a little unconventionally so I use equipment like sledgehammers, sandbags, kettlebells, etc.

At the moment my fitness levels are pretty average. I have done a fitness test before starting my new 6 week program (that I made myself) and the results are posted below. I really hope the numbers have moved the right way in 6 weeks time!!

Fitness Test

* 3 minutes rest between exercises

Push Ups - AMRAP in 2min --> 35

Sit Ups - AMRAP in 2 min --> 29

Air Squat - AMRAP in 2 min --> 40

Pull Ups - AMRAP --> 5 (assisted with a big rubber band)

Plank - To Failure - 1'08"

Sandbag Overhead Press - AMRAP --> 12

Sandbag Back Squat - AMRAP --> 20

Run 1km --> 6:30

*My sandbag weighs about 20kg when full (it has 3 filler bags inside it of different weights)

I'm starting a 6 week program next Monday (1.10.12) which consists of 3 different workouts, rotated through 2 workouts a week, with a Cardio day in between.

So for example, the first 2 weeks will look like:

Monday - Workout A - Circuit training

Wednesday - Cardio - Hill Sprints

Friday - Workout B - Strength Training (straight sets, working on getting stronger every workout)

Monday - Workout C - Tabata Intervals

Wednesday - Cardio - Sprint repeats

Friday - Workout A

....and so on.

I'll aim to post after each workout with what I did and how I did.

So that's it. Let the fun begin.....

I love the functional fitness concept, that's what I'm going for also, though it seems like you have a great head start on me. I'm doing this challenge prmarily with body weight exercises and endurance exercises, but for my second I'm looking to incorporate more weight. I'll be keeping aneyenyour workouts :)

Total newb, but I'm trying
