:( Major injury

DAMN IT TO HECK!

Since August I have really sorted my stuff out... I moved to a Paleo diet (with a few cheat days here and there), training hard at the gym with a good bit of crossfit thrown in and have been feeling so much better in myself.

My weight shifted from 78Kg to 74Kg but most importantly my body fat dropped by 5% from 16% to 11%. Then I was doing technique training at the gym and hit up an overhead squat (just the bar) - locked out at full range... bang... anterior dislocation of the left shoulder. I have also suffered a circumflex axillary nerve injury - so my delt is at this moment in time... not working (that is very weird I tell you)!

I have done it once before some 10 years ago and there is obviously a weakness there but it's such a major setback just as I was really rocking with my progress.

If this had happened a year ago... I would have spent the last four days in bed crying. As it is, I've downloaded and read anything I can find about rehabilitation of a shoulder injury... I'm signed off work for the next two weeks so the NF book list is being downloaded to my iPad... I have to eat clean as I'm not training.

But I know I'm going to need some motivation and help from time to time... not training for four days is one thing... but as we progress to weeks... I'm going to need some help.

I've been lurking on the forums for a while so I know just how awesome the NF crew are... Now I hope you can help me as well!

OUCH!!! I'm sorry, that sucks!

Ok first thing, there is another book that isn't on the reading list yet that you might enjoy (I am loving it), called "The Happiness Diet". It is written by a research psychiatrist that studies how the nutrients in the food we eat effect us. Really cool stuff.

Second, I think that I would view this as a blessing in disguise. The injury really does suck, but it is relatively minor compared to something like a torn rotator cuff. I think that I would take this opportunity to find out where the weak point that you have is, and start finding ways that you can target it so that you can prevent a much more serious injury in the future.

Thanks both, sound advice. I've not been referred for physio yet (I can't quite believe that) so have downloaded a huge number of resources, read them all and am starting my own rehab.

Hopefully, its only ligament damage but I will need a scan once I have seen the upper limb specialist. It's the nerve injury I'm worrying most about... I want my delt back!! :(:(:(

shoulders are such a poorly engineered joint... id like to file a complaint with the engineer.

i am plagued by a persistent popping, soreness from the ligaments in my left shoulder. PhysTherapy can limit the soreness, but it eventually comes back.

LOL! One of many poorly engineered joints!

Yeay! Finally got a scan date, three weeks today... which to be fair is not too bad from the NHS these days.

It's also clear that the records from my previous dislocation don't seem to be on my medical file - so to save further delay I have applied for them from the previous NHS trust and will do the medical record department job for them.
