MegaCarp
Okay, I've heard so many of you talk about it. I've heard Robb Wolf talk about it. Can someone explain it to me, guide me to a point where I can find adequate information, and potential entry points? This might be a dumb question, but hey when it comes to food and fitness...I just have no clue. Now if it was math, then I'm set. Quote Link to comment
kahn265
WOO! My favorite exercise topic! Here is a general introduction (from http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/what-crossfit.html )CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide. Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist. The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs. Basically, every day you get a "Workout of the Day" which you do, usually for time. The workouts vary to allow you to work different goals allowing you to be a "generalist" in fitness and not great at any ONE thing - so I may not be a good runner, nor the best weight lifter, but I CAN make a decent attempt at both.Usually you do a pattern of 3 days workout and one day off for recovery. (I do 4 on, 1 off, 1 on, 1 off because of how my week is structured). To give you an idea of what to expect, My last few workouts wereLast night4 rounds of25 Squats25 yards of lunges with 30 to 40 pounds over my head15 PushupsTuesday NightFor 20 minutes, starting at every minute on the minute5 Deadlifts5 Cleans5 ThrustersLast ThursdayWarmup with 1 mile runAs Many Rounds As Possible for 20 minutes1. 1/4 mile run2. 20 Burpees3. MegaCarp
So umm Kahn, can you use dumbbells instead of barbells or bands? Quote Link to comment
kahn265
Dumbbells are great - In fact, we used them on Tues to do the Deadlift/Clean/Thruster mix. Much depends on what the WoD calls for, but I see no reason dumbbells couldn't be used for your weights. As to bands, dunno. Quote Link to comment
CokeCanNinja
Crossfit is busting your ass for fun. A typical day is something like this: Warm up: Run 5 miles 100 push-ups 25 pull-ups 25 chinups 250 squats Workout: 250 push-ups, 5 sets 100 pull-ups, 5 sets 100 chinups, 5 sets 1,000 squats, 5 sets 15 minute plank, 15 seconds rest, 3 sets Sprint 5 miles, walk 1 mile, 10 sets The benefit is you'll have a 5% body fat percentage in about 1 week, and ironmen competitions are easy. kahn265
@CokeCanNinja You forgot to note that you have to eat super Paleo - that is all meat has to be hunted and killed yourself (nothing more modern than a sharpened rock) and cooked over a wood fire outside - and that you need to complete the entire workout (with Warm-up and hunting) in 20 minutes Quote Link to comment
CokeCanNinja
And that's for beginners. Quote Nerd? We prefer the term INTELLECTUAL BADASS!!! Link to comment
MegaCarp
LOL you guys don't want me to live long do you? Quote Link to comment
CokeCanNinja
No, not really. Oh, and if you don't complete the workout first try to need to keep trying until you do. Quote Nerd? We prefer the term INTELLECTUAL BADASS!!! Link to comment
kahn265
You aren't permitted to sleep until you do complete. If you lose count, you have to start over again. No one ever said 5% in a week would be easy! Quote Link to comment
CokeCanNinja
If it takes you more then 3 hours to complete a workout, you need to double the next one. Quote Nerd? We prefer the term INTELLECTUAL BADASS!!! Link to comment
MegaCarp
Heh, maybe I don't need 5% in a week...lol Quote Link to comment
