still figuring this out but i'm in...

Recommended Posts

hello all,

I'm a 6' 40-something and have been generally thin, fit and active most of my life. Over the past 7 years of caring for and then losing one parent after the other I packed on the pounds. Over the last few months I've been trying to jump start my life in terms of diet and exercise.

Since Octoberish I've been eating Primal and trying to follow that approach to exercise: lots of walking for cardio, gym once a week for lifting heavy things, sprinting, not so much.

Initially I set my rebel fitness goal at an hour of weight lifting a week and an hour of walking four times a week....but I realized that should be my baseline, and the whole point of the challenge is to kick it up a level.

Since I see myself as a Ranger/Monk type, I'm adding for the first week, 100 crunches each morning and 30 sec. plank. In the evening, 15 minutes of stretching. To add to the monk part I'm also doing a 28 day gassho challenge, basically 2 mini-meditation sessions per day.

Not sure how I'll step it up in the following weeks, or how to give myself points, but keeping in mind the idea of always trying to push myself a little more really changes the way I feel everyday (for the better).

Thanks!

Hiya, welcome! Help me out here. As far as I'm aware, "gassho" is a hand pose used in meditation. I wasn't aware there was anything more to it.

Welcome aboard! It sounds like you have the right mindset for success. Keep us posted :)

I read a study once that said doing ANYTHING in the gym is more anabolic than doing NOTHING sitting in front of the computer.
