South America - Botfly protection?

Brethren

Recommended Posts

So I've been planning our epic trip to SOuth America in September 2014. Unfortunately my fiancee was recently forwarded an email on Human Botfly which has put a major spanner in the works -- particularly for our little Amazonian expedition in Ecuador.

While i'm quite prepared to accept that shit happens and take the generally prescribed precaution of mosquito repellent and appropriate clothing, I need a little my reassurance for my partner. Does anyone know where I could find any info about where they occur less frequently, habitats etc?

Might be a long shot, but the combined knowledge of 40,000 nerds could be quite astronomical.
