CokeCanNinja
Drank some milk. I DO NOT like milk at all. However, I realized I am probably VERY calcium deficient. Also, I am starting Tameshiwari (breaking stuff with your bare hands, bricks, boards, etc.) and so I need really strong bones. Quote Nerd? We prefer the term INTELLECTUAL BADASS!!! Link to comment
Raincloak
Congrats on making a beneficial change in your diet! This is just my opinion, but I think cow milk as a food for adult humans is overrated. Lactose intolerance after childhood is standard for the species. There are plenty of sources for calcium other than milk, like sardines or kale. Or you could take a supplement, of course. Be sure to get lots of vitamin D either way. CokeCanNinja
I know drinking milk isn't normal for adult animals, but I need the calcium and don't wanna spend money on supplements. Quote Nerd? We prefer the term INTELLECTUAL BADASS!!! Link to comment
Raincloak
You could eat canned sardines. Or kale. Or almonds. Or some other dairy product (eg cheese, yogurt, etc.) I'm not running down milk, understand, I'm just saying if you don't like it, you don't have to drink it. I used to go through a gallon of milk a week when I was a kid, but nowadays I can't handle it, so I switched to yogurt. With chopped nuts and a smidge of honey or dried fruit it's pretty fine. If cost is your issue, you should know that calcium supplements are far cheaper per dose than milk. Not surprising since the world is full of the stuff (limestone, marble, chalk, shellfish, bird eggs...) Buy a bottle of Tums and munch 'em up, nothing simpler. Then start smashing those boards, and post some videos Quote Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future. Hylian Assassin 5'5", 143 lbs. Half-marathon: 3:02It is pitch dark. CokeCanNinja
Tums will work? I didn't realize they had that much calcium. It'll be awhile before I actually get to break boards and such, I need to wait until my hands are harder. Quote Nerd? We prefer the term INTELLECTUAL BADASS!!! Link to comment
Anivair
Also asparagus and Artichoke. Very high in calcium plus: delicious. Quote Level 3 Human Ranger STR: 9 DEX: 5.25 STA: 14.5 CON: 5.5 WIS: 16 CHA: 5.5 My Current Challenge Link to comment
Gowaduv
Tums will work? I didn't realize they had that much calcium. It'll be awhile before I actually get to break boards and such, I need to wait until my hands are harder. They'll work, sort of... for a while TUMS' advertising logo was "CalciUMS" when they were advertising to the old folks. According to dietician.com you'll need to eat about 6 of them per day to get enough elemental calcium to meet your daily minimum (about 1000mg). Since you're trying to harden bones you may need slightly more. The site also says you should eat them with/just after a meal to help with absorption. Here's the rub: you're gonna need a vitamin D supplement of some sort to get that calcium into your bones, and it's a vitamin antacids do not have. So, I will throw my hat in the "buy a supplement" ring if you're looking to get away from milk. Or you could munch up some tums while drinking your vitamin D fortified milk. Raincoat's right about how cheap calcium supps are, and vitamin D supps are even less expensive (plus will help with a number of regulatory functions in your bod).
