I'm doing straight leg dumbbell deadlifts for the first time, but have no idea how much weight to start out with. Any pointers? Waldo Posted March 28, 2013 Report Share Posted March 28, 2013 None at first. Before loading it you want to first get good at using your butt to do the movement, not your back. Less load and higher reps will help to figure out which muscles are working and which ones aren't. If you're doing it right, your butt and upper hamstrings should burn long before any other muscles get all that fatigued. currently cutting battle log challenges: 21,20, 19,18,17,16,15,14,13,12,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 don't panic! I definitely felt the burn in my butt and upper hamstrings, but can tell I need work on my form b/c felt it in my lower back too. Thanks again!
