Guest Carjack
Direct link:http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/tough-guise/The premise is good but there are some weird errors, since the narrator is a gigantic hipster:First he gives statistics of violence committed by men and argues that they're due to hyper-masculine imagery in the media, but he uses child sexual abuse stats, and pedophiles are stereotyped as fruity unmasculine homosexers. He compares the 50s Superman of the movies to the modern version of Superman to say the modern version is much larger and more physically imposing, as if every Hollywood actor back then had elite personal trainers to give them any physique they wanted. Comic book superheroes were jacked going back to WWII.Nelson Mandela is given as a male figure who promoted nonviolence and reconciliation but he and his organization used an extreme amount of violence to achieve their goals when it suited them.He doesn't address nature vs nurture very well. He could have easily done so by comparing masculinity across cultures. This movie is very America-centric. Quote Link to comment
