Raincloak
... and boy is it shiny. ^^ Comes with some junk I didn't want, but I'm thinking of "rooting" it. Which would be a risk, since it's an expensive little device, but I'm fairly sure I can get away without destroying it. Tell me, have any of you tried this rooting business? JaysFreaky
There's almost no way you can screw rooting up. Go for it! Quote Link to comment
Raincloak
I'm looking at this SuperOneClick method on LifeHacker (here it is: http://lifehacker.com/5789397/the-always-up+to+date-guide-to-rooting-any-android-phone ). Have you heard of any problems with this?oh, and my darned memory card is misbehaving ... but I blame that on my computer, not the phone. Quote Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future. JaysFreaky
If you're on 2.2, that'll work fine, but if you're already on 2.3, that won't work. Here's a thread I would suggest for you. Raincloak
I have no idea how this Froyo/Gingerbread thing works. The phone as I purchased it says it's running version 2.2.1 ... so when does it upgrade? Does it do that by itself? And if so, how do I turn auto updates off? JaysFreaky
2.2 is Froyo and 2.3 is Gingerbread, so you're running Froyo right now. If you leave it on long enough, it'll automatically download the update and prompt you if you want to update it or not. I've never actually had to deal with auto updates, because one of the first things I do when I get a new phone is flash a new rom to it. lolHere's a good little guide with all the topics on the left. I'm linking right to the rooting page and then you can move on to the topics on the left. http://roooler.com/rooting-droid-x/ Quote Link to comment
