texstorm
Any suggestions on how to do some strength training with an injured back? I've got a badly strained muscle in my lower back that I'm seeing a physical therapist to work on resolving, but I'm starting to go stir-crazy because I haven't done any strength training in two months waiting for this thing to get better. Centurion
Hard to say without knowing the severity of the injury. I guess the best suggestion I could make would be to try doing some body weight exercises (push-ups, pull-ups, dips, squats, etc.) that way you don't have the same level of risk of doing additional damage to your back that you might have with lifting weights Quote Link to comment

texstorm
what sort of therapist have you gone to see? a chiropractor? and i'll have more info in a few hours because i'm off to see mine He's an orthopedic physical therapist, not a chiropractor. He's identified that a big part of my problem is that my hips are very, very tight. So I've got a suite of exercises I do daily that are designed to loosen my hips and strengthen my back. jbzero
There are a whole host of ways to work around back injuries depending on if it is flexion intolerant, extension intolerant, compression intolerant, but the prescription needs to match the injury or you can make things far worse. You're paying for PT, ask your PT. If they're any good they should be able to help you out. Quote Link to comment
Timmy M
orthopaedic? thought that was feet... meh i just make sure i keep my glutes and hams loose by stretching daily that seems to help, i've mostly healed now so i've started deadlifting again, very light (comparatively ) and i'm mostly good, bit of tightness everynow and then, if i get that when i have an appointment my chiro punishes me by doing a harsher versino of a deep tissue massage on my gluteus middius :/ which hurts... a lot Quote Link to comment
