elril
I'll probably fit right in. I am a 30 something scientist who is coming from a background of high school football. I am 6'3' and the scale tells me around 215lbs. I started running around five years ago as part of an anniversary present with my wife (I got new running shoes, she got a sports bra). At the time I was 260lbs. I have since covered every running race distance short of ultra (though the marathon put me in the ER, stupid heat stroke), and have since segued into triathlons. I have made it through half-iron man distance there, with my goal of completing Ironman Wisconsin in under 14 hours before I turn 40 (I have a couple years). I enjoy weight training, and am quite conversant with it, due to my time playing football, I just can't seem to fit the time in for more workouts. I have two boys and am active in all their activities (cubscouts, soccer, swim team, etc.). Recently my wife has attacked out diet by taking on the "whole30" challenge. Being the supportive husband I am, I went along for the ride. I am skeptical of the science behind the Paleo trend, particularly the villifying of beans and whole grains. As long at the main thrust is an attack on processed food though, I can support it. Basically, I am here because I am a nerd, and a fitness one at that and it seems I have found at least a few like-minded folks...
