Crossfit Games 2011, free streaming coverage

Heya folks,

If you're a Crossfitter, or if you're interested in Crossfit, or if you think Crossfit is just a bunch of spastic aerobics with pink hand-weights, you might be interested in this:

If you go there now, you can watch old footage of a CF/weightlifting hybrid event, which is interesting itself. But later on today, at like 6pm Pacific time, the 2011 Games are going live. It'll likely be some general intro stuff this evening, but then with actual events running from Friday morning through Sunday. Free to watch online, so check out a few minutes here and there. Or, like, throw a Games party with paleo cookies or something.

Should be fun / educational / inspirational / horrifying, depending on your perspective!

Then, the first individual workout was announced. To the shock of most everyone in the room, the athletes were informed that on Friday morning, they should arrive at the Home Depot Center at 5:15 a.m., so they can board buses for the Santa Monica beach. At 7 a.m. Pacific time, the men will do the first heat of the workout, which is:

For time:

210-meter ocean swim

Run 1,500m in soft-sand

50 Chest-to-bar pull-ups

100 hand release push-ups

200 Squats

Run 1,500m in soft-sand

Um, yikes. )

You could make a drinking game out of watching that. Every time they start an exercise you can't do, take a drink. I would be chugging.

First event was a lot of fun, though the stream was choppy. Oh well, hopefully it'll get better through the weekend! Also worth considering that this first event took place at the beach, not at the arena where the rest of the Games is happening, and where I assume their media hub is at.

Next event, which is gonna be another unique one, starts at 11:30 pacific time. So a couple hours!

It's gonna be an L sit for time, a softball throw for distance, and handstand walk. Man, they're REALLY going outside the box in the wods this year!
