I don't understand challenges.

The site will announce the beginning of a new 6 week Challenge, and you create your own thread for it in the designated forum.  Just scroll down a bit and you'll see a section for the current Challenge, which is wrapping up this week.

Basically, choose something you currently can't do physically (lift x weight, do a pull up, do a muscle up, do a human flag, run x distance, etc), or something you want (lose weight, gain weight, to see your six pack, to compete in a powerlifting competition or fitness modeling competition) then set 3 goals for you to complete that will help you progress to that quest (diet, workout x times a week, etc) and maybe add in a grading system if you want to, plus maybe a life quest (something you want to achieve that's not fitness related), and what your motivation is for doing this. And you're done.
