Ghostbird
I have been lingering in chat for the past few days and teasing about building a wooden Bodyweight Bench. As of Tonight (night of March 15tb) I have started working on said Bench! It is nearly halfway finished and new ideas on how to continue the project. Tomorrow (sunday, March 16th) however, I will be attending the renaissance fair, so these pictures will have to do. Work on the bench will continue on Monday the 17th! =] http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h400/Ghostbird19/20140315_211501.jpg http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h400/Ghostbird19/20140315_205435.jpg http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h400/Ghostbird19/20140315_211657.jpg http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h400/Ghostbird19/20140315_211140.jpg http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h400/Ghostbird19/20140315_215404.jpg Quote Link to comment
insanity
Not sure how far along you are, or what plans you're using, but you might want to look at this.. http://homemadestrength.blogspot.com/2011/05/strongest-bench-youll-never-buy.html That's the bench, and if you look at his squat rack, you'll see he made a spot to put the bar for a bench press, you put those two, and some adjustable heavy duty saw horses (Act as a guard to getting crushed) and you've got practically an entire gym.... here's his whole setup... 1 Quote "Insanity - you make my world a better place man, you really do! Ghostbird
That's... amazing! DIY Projects are quite an astounding idea, and just seeing this makes me want to hurry up my own project, but alas, I've gotta take my time. My father and I are writing down various ideas and we'll be putting them to the test tonight. Right now, we are still paused with what we have done (last picture for source). The one idea we're currently supporting is to make the Bench Collapsable so it'll be much easier to transport (much like a rather large briefcase). And for that, we would need longer screws that'll allow the two Side Frames (again, last pic for source) to 'slide' into place on another 2x4, then 'slide' out and put together; if that makes any sense at all. x] Quote Link to comment
Ghostbird
Here are some more pictures as of tonight! My project is nearing completion! =] http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h400/Ghostbird19/20140321_165142.jpg http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h400/Ghostbird19/20140321_165131.jpg Quote Link to comment
insanity
If you want it to be collapsable, what about building something like the folding tables, where the legs fold up under the table, and there's the bracket to keep em open? So far it's lookin good though... Quote "Insanity - you make my world a better place man, you really do! SavageK2
Got any cool ideas on finishing touches? Stains, art, fuzzy dice, etc? Quote Link to comment
Jakkals
Nice bench. Are you going to upholster the top? Got any cool ideas on finishing touches? Stains, art, fuzzy dice, etc? A bench like that should be coated in sweat and blood. What does Upholster mean? My apologies, but I'm not familiar with the DIY lingo x] And I agree, something this awesome has to be tagged! I'll think of a design later on. Right now, I'm quite eager to build it and test it! ;] If you want it to be collapsable, what about building something like the folding tables, where the legs fold up under the table, and there's the bracket to keep em open? So far it's lookin good though... My father and I thought about that at first, but then we had a different idea for the time being. We both want it built and usable as soon as possible, but we also wanna make sure its sturdy and stable when in use. We'll be using Bolts and Wingnuts as to make the separate pieces removable and thus collapsable for the time being. After that, who knows, we might make another and improve on the rough design we're currently working with. =] Quote Link to comment

Right now, at this current moment, You've got me thinking about art. ;] I'm not gonna put all my effort into the decals and design just yet, but we're still trying to get it built and completed. x] After it's built, I'll start working on some awesome designs for it. =] Quote Link to comment

Jakkals
Upholster is the padding and springs that is added to chairs and couches. In your case stapling some padding to the top should be easy enough. Or just put a towel down. Becoming-Bane
Thats pretty cool. I want to make my own punching bag. It sounds like it would be fun to do.
